Remake of Mahesh Bhatt directorial Arth shelved, director Revathi claims, “I have postponed it for now”

What happened to the remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth that Revathi was supposed to direct? Announced in 2019 with much fanfare, the project had the blessings of Bhatt. It was to feature Swara Bhaskar in Shabana Azmi’s role.

Of all the iconic roles, that the formidable Shabana Azmi has played the one that stands out as super-iconic is the deserted wife in Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth. That role, admits Shabana to a large extent, defined the shape of her career.

However, it seems the idea of a trying to redo Arth has been dropped. Says Revathi, “That project did not fall into place with the right actors. I have postponed it for now. We are actually doing a take on the subject, an idea that remained unexplored in the original. I didn’t want to do a faithful remake. I wanted to take the characters into a different direction.”

Incidentally, Revathi played Shabana’s role in Balu Mahendra’s Marapudiyam, the Tamil version of Arth.

Nora Fatehi sets FIFA fan fest stage on fire in a silver sequined ensemble by Falguni & Shane Peacock

One of the most popular actresses, Nora Fatehi, has a sizable fan base all over the world. The actress’s impressive performances never fail to leave the audience feeling incredibly pleased. Her fans were ecstatic when it was recently confirmed that she would be performing at the FIFA World Cup 2022. A day before, Nora’s electric performance ignited the crowd. Throughout her performance, the audience could be seen yelling in support. Nora increased the performance’s level of hotness by donning a sparkly costume. The actress has always set the bar high when it comes to dancing, and today’s performance was no exception. On her popular dance songs, she was spotted showing off her sizzling skills. Nora served as the muse for the fashion brand Falguni Shane Peacock India as she chose a gorgeous attire for her performance at the FIFA World Cup fan festival, which was hosted at Al Bidda Park in Doha. Nora was dressed in a silver sequin, see-through outfit. The outfit was adorned with a detailed silver belt with sequin accents, a silver corset bodice, many silver resham threads enhancing the sequin details, and silver decorations throughout. With a dramatic hot pink shrug that encircled her and had pink ruffle embellishments at the edges, Nora gave her ensemble extra glitz.

The star completed her outfit for the day with a pair of traditional silver stilettos. Nora’s hair was parted on the side. Nora was decked in hot pink lipstick, black eyeliner, black kohl, mascara-coated eyelashes, drawn eyebrows, and nude eyeshadow. Earlier in March 2022, the former actress had taken to her Instagram handle to share a silhouette still from a Bollywood music video and said that one day, he will be exposed by the people who he abused. She even mentioned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in her note.

“The Harvey Weinstein of Bollywood! You will be exposed. The women you abused will come out one day and share their truth. Just like @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb,” Somy wrote in her now-deleted Instagram post. She did not mention the name of the said person. Interestingly, the still was from Salman Khan and Bhagyashree’s song ‘Aate Jaate Haste Gaate’ from the film Maine Pyar Kiya.

In 2018, at the height of the #MeToo movement, Somy Ali had shared, “As a survivor of sexual abuse at the age of 5 and rape at 14, I would like to salute all those that have spoken up and plan on doing so. I know it is very difficult to do it because I have been there and it took me many years to be able to talk about it. It takes immense amount of courage to share this with the world. It’s even harder when you tell those that are close to you and they are supposed to protect you, yet they do nothing. I have been there too and it hurts like hell.”

“I want these survivors to know it is truly liberating and completely worth it. Do not let the nonbelievers stop you. This is your truth. Do not ever be afraid to speak your truth. Do not let this opportunity pass you. This is a moment that has been long overdue for all of us. This is your chance to be heard and finally obtain justice. I believe you,” added Somy.

The actor turned humanitarian now runs her NGO No More Tears.

IIFA 2023 press conference: Farah Khan reveals why Salman Khan prefers dancing over hosting; gets a funny response from him, watch

The organisers of the 23rd Indian Film Academy and Awards (IIFA) are gearing up for a star-studded show with Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Karan Johar and Varun Dhawan, among others. Recently, the organisers hosted a press conference, which was attended by the above-mentioned stars along with Farah Khan, Badshah, Farhan Akhtar, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Amit Trivedi. Interestingly, during the press conference, Farah Khan revealed Salman Khan prefers dancing over hosting.

In a video, Salman jokingly poked fun at IIFA for getting Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, and Badshah to host this year’s event. Responding to Salman’s remark, Farah stated that they will be hosting other events. While calling those events “bigger” than his event, Khan continued to entertain the audience present over there.

However, Farah was quick to give a reply to Salman as she asserted, “Because you said – you prefer to dance. Because that was easier for you. You have to do hosting for three hours whereas you can get done with dancing in six minutes.”

Later, in the event, the Tiger actor also recalled his experience of being a part of the IIFA Awards for the past 20 years. He said, “I am glad to be going back to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. In the last edition, I hosted the awards with Riteish Deshmukh and Maniesh Paul and made everyone present not just laugh, but cry too as I opened my heart to them. This time, I promise to make them stand up and dance with me as we celebrate Indian cinema globally.”

For the unversed, IIFA 2023 will be held at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi from February 9 to 11, next year.

The Kashmir Files Row: After IFFI jury head Nadav Lapid slammed the film, Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani apologizes to Anupam Kher personally

The IFFI jury head and Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid made a rather powerful statement after watching one of the biggest releases of the year, The Kashmir Files. The filmmaker was reportedly left quite ‘shocked’ after watching this Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi starrer and even accused it to be a part of a ‘propoganda’ film and went on to call it ‘vulgar’. While many filmmakers, actors, and other members of the fraternity lashed out on Lapid for making these comments, now Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani have also extended his support for the same.

Anupam Kher recently met up with Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani and shared a video of the same on his social media. The actor also shared in this post about Mr. Shoshani visiting his school Actor Prepares, which is an educational institute for aspiring actors and actresses. He expressed his gratitude towards the Israel Counsel General adding, “Thank you dearest @KobbiShoshani, Counsel General of #Israel in Mumbai for visiting my school @actorprepares. In the video posted by Kher, Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani not only revealed that he saw the film The Kashmir Files, a year ago and also expressed his love for the film. He not only apologized for the comment made by Nadav Lapid during IFFI 2022 but also added that his was a private opinion that does not represent the entire country of Israel. He went on assert that it is possibly the opinion of a minority group.

Not too long ago, after Lapid made his comments about the film, Anupam Kher too shared a video slamming the filmmaker for making such nasty remarks about the Vivek Agnihotri directorial, For the unversed, The Kashmir Files is inspired by real life events which includes the exodus of Kashmiri pandits from the state.

EXCLUSIVE: Milap Zaveri REVEALS that Warner Bros was UNJUST to his debut directorial, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai: “I was most heartbroken that Warner NEVER released Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai on VCD or DVD.; Warner wasn’t very gung-ho on marketing it well”

Milap Zaveri, who completed 20 years this year in the industry, started his career as a writer. In 2010, his directorial debut, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (2010), starring Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez, was released. The film bombed and in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Milap Zaveri explains why he feels that Warner Bros, which backed Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, meted out unfair treatment to his first directorial venture.

Milap Zaveri told Bollywood Hungama, “A lot of people over the years have told me that Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is a very sweet and cute film. But in those days, Riteish was a very big comic star. Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), Masti, Kya Kool Hain Hum (2005), Heyy Babyy (2007) etc were hits. So, I feel the experiment to do a sweet romcom with him didn’t really get viewers excited.”

He added, “Secondly, Warner Bros’ was the producer and Chandni Chowk To China (2009) had not done well for them. So, Warner wasn’t very gung-ho on marketing the film well. Thirdly, we clashed with Vivek Oberoi’s Prince (2010). I was absolutely not happy with it as Prince was a very big film. Hence, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai never got a chance. Even today, very few people know about it. When they talk about Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez together, the first film that comes to their mind is Aladin (2009). It had released a few months before our film and sadly, it failed. So in every press interview, Riteish and Jacqueline were constantly asked about it.”

Milap Zaveri continued, “Nevertheless, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai was one of the best experiences of my life. I had so much fun with Riteish, Jacqueline, Vishal Malhotra, Ruslaan, Sonal Chauhan, Satish Shah sir and Supriya Pilgaonkar ma’am. It was like a picnic making that film. Hats off to co-producer Nikkhil Advani. He gave me everything I wanted. Sadly, we didn’t have the power to push Warner Bros to market the film correctly.”

Milap Zaveri explained why the promotional plans didn’t help the film, “It was a love story between an alien and a guy from Earth. The original poster was really cool. It featured Riteish hanging from a spaceship while Jacqueline lying on the same ship. Warner rejected the poster as they felt we should not show the spacecraft or that she’s an alien in the film. They recommended having more youthful posters, a la Ishq Vishk (2003). Such a kind of marketing didn’t work.”

What saddens Milap Zaveri is that movie buffs don’t have access to Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai today, “I was quite heartbroken since Warner never released it on VCD or DVD. It’s not on any streaming platform. It’s literally not there anywhere. The only place where you might find the film is on torrent websites. I have one copy of it on my phone or laptop. Riteish and I often discuss that we wish that the film was out there so that people can watch it. But the Warner Bros’ Indian division just didn’t care about the film at all. Last year, I even put a tweet wherein I tagged Warner Bros. I requested them to put out the film but nothing happened.”

When asked if Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai was released on television ever, Milap replied, “Yes. In those days, it aired on television.”

Box Office: Drishyam 2 and Bhediya have another day close to 9 crores combined total – Tuesday updates

It was a stable day for both Drishyam 2 and Bhediya as yet again close to Rs. 9 crores came in. On Monday the Rs. 9 crores combined total had been comfortably scored between the two movies and now with Tuesday also staying in its vicinity, it’s good news for the exhibitors at least. There have hardly been any weekdays with a score like this and it’s happening for 13 days now ever since the release of Drishyam 2, which is heartening.

It’s the Ajay Devgn starrer which is continuing to stay in the lead and that was evident yesterday as well when Rs. 5.35 crores* came in. To have over Rs. 5 crores come in on a daily basis is really good and if the trend continues today and tomorrow as well then it would be simply phenomenal. It may so happen though that things do dip a bit on Thursday at least but then there would definitely be stability on Friday with things going on an upswing on Saturday and Sunday. So far; the film had collected Rs. 154.64 crores* and by Saturday, it will go past the Rs. 175 crores milestone.

Meanwhile, the first major target for Bhediya is to go past the Rs. 50 crores mark and hopefully that would happen by this Sunday. The film collected Rs. 3.50 crores* on Tuesday and those are stable numbers when compared to Rs. 3.85 crores that had been gathered on Monday. That indicates yet another couple of days where the numbers will stay over the Rs. 3 crores mark at least. The Varun Dhawan led creature comedy has accumulated Rs. 35.90 crores* so far and as long as it maintains this trajectory and then keeps the hold in the second weekend as well (despite the release of An Action Hero), it will hit the Rs. 50 crores mark in 10 days. By the look of things, it will do that as the fun element should work with the family audiences over the weekend.

SCOOP: The Rs. 2 cr reason why Anees Bazmee will not direct Hera Pheri 3

Funny, but it’s all about money. The real reason why Anees Bazmee is reluctant to direct the third installment of Hera Pheri is money. That’s right. Producer Firoz Nadiadwala allegedly hasn’t paid Anees fully for Welcome Back, the film that Anees directed for Firoz in 2015.

During the release of Welcome Back Anees claimed that Firoz had agreed to pay him Rs 11.27 crores as his directorial fee. Out of this he actually paid him only Rs 6,64,50,000 crores. Anees had voluntarily foregone Rs 2,62,50,000. Anees only wanted Firoz to give him Rs 2 crores of the pending payment. This apparently didn’t happen.

At that time Anees was extremely hurt by the payment default. Multiple sources say the past experience had made Anees wary of my further association.

Kriti Sanon breaks her silence on dating rumours with Prabhas; says, “Its neither Pyaar, nor PR”

A few days back, the Bhediya actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon were seen on a popular television show promoting the film. In the heat of the moment, Varun made a comment which has since led to rumours of Kriti dating her Adipurush co-star Prabhas. Interestingly, Kriti has been the target of many dating rumours and speculations although there has been nothing concrete about them. While this was brushed off as a bad marketing stunt, the speculations got stronger when Varun, teased her.

Now, clarifying the rumours that started off post this episode, a source close to the development told a leading portal, “Varun and Kriti share an amicable bond and they often pull each other’s leg. That tease by Varun was just a way of him taking Kriti’s case as he knew these rumours were baseless. Kriti and Prabhas are not seeing each other. They share a close bond as co-stars and really respect each other, but that’s just it.”

If that wasn’t enough, Kriti Sanon as well, who usually stays away from such topics, decided to break her silence. Taking to her Instagram stories, Kriti put out a post clarifying her relationship status while terming Varun’s comments as ‘fun banter’. While, the rumours have finally been put to rest, on the work front, Kriti was recently seen in the film Bhediya which has been performing well at the box office. Besides this, the actress also recently unveiled the teaser of her upcoming next Shehzada alongside Kartik Aaryan. Apart from this, Kriti boasts of a strong line-up of films including, Adipurush, Ganapath, and The Crew.

Blurr trailer: Taapsee Pannu is desperate to uncover her twin sister’s death before losing her eyesight in this thriller

Akshay Kumar has become the go-to actor for Bollywood when it comes to films with nationalistic themes. Similarly, over the last few years, Taapsee Pannu has become a thriller specialist. After Badla, Game Over, Haseen Dilruba, Looop Lapeta and Dobaaraa, we can now add Blurr in the list. The film is the Hindi adaptation of the Spanish thriller Julia’s Eyes.

The film’s trailer, which is just released, reveals that it deals with the story of twins Gayatri and Gautami, both played by Taapsee Pannu. Gayatri’s life turns upside down when Gautami, who was visually challenged, dies by suicide, at least this is what the cops conclude.

Gayatri, however, is sure that her sister can’t end her life and starts investigating her death. Her husband (Gulshan Devaiah) doesn’t support her though as he is satisfied with the version of the cops. What’s worse for Gayatri is that she too is slowly losing her eyesight.

The trailer makes it clear that Blurr goes onto the thriller mode right from the start. Apart from the story, that’s both intriguing and tragic, the technical departments, including the colour grading, gets your attention. The trailer ends on a creepy note when a character is throwing light from the torch on Gayatri’s face but all she can see is darkness.

Taapsee appears in good form as a woman troubled by multiple reasons. The rest of the actors don’t get much screentime in the trailer.

Talking about the film, Producer Vishal Rana of Echelon Productions said, “I am elated to announce the release of my next film. Blurr is an experience that will keep you intrigued till the end. Taapsee has once again proved herself with such brilliance and an outstanding performance!”

Directed by Ajay Bahl and produced by Tony D’Souza, Vishal Rana, Pradeep Sharma and Manav Durga, Blurr will stream on Zee 5 from December 9.

Sanjay Gupta confirms that Fardeen Khan’s comeback film Visfot, co-starring Riteish Deshmukh, will skip theatrical release and premiere directly on an OTT platform

Last year, in September 2021, it was announced that Fardeen Khan is all set to make a grand comeback with Visfot. Co-starring Riteish Deshmukh, it is directed by Kookie Gulati and is produced by Sanjay Gupta. The film was expected to be released in cinemas but recently, Sanjay Gupta revealed that Fardeen Khan’s comeback movie will directly arrive on a streaming site.

In an interaction with mid-day, Sanjay Gupta confirmed that Visfot will skip a theatrical release and premiere directly on OTT in 2023 due to unfavourable box office conditions. It is an official remake of the 2012 Venezuelan film, Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Reportedly, Riteish plays a pilot in the film whose son gets kidnapped by Fardeen’s character. In an interview earlier this year, Fardeen Khan revealed that he plays a guy from Dongri in the film. In fact, the film was even shot in the South Mumbai locality. Besides Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, Visfot also stars Priya Bapat, Krystle D’Souza, Seema Bapat and Sheeba Chadha. Along with Sanjay Gupta, Bhushan Kumar has also backed this film.

Sanjay Gupta also revealed to mid-day that he’ll also release his directorial venture, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri, on a digital platform directly. When asked the reason to avoid a theatrical run for his films, he said, “We have no illusion of taking these movies to theatres and making big numbers. I was clear that it would take a minimum of two years for [Bollywood to recover after the pandemic].”

Sanjay Gupta’s directorial venture was tentatively titled The Miranda Brothers. It is set in Goa and is a story of two brothers. Sahher Bambba also features in this film, whose dialogues are penned by Milap Zaveri.

And that’s not all. Sanjay Gupta revealed that his production house will come up with three more films, all meant for digital releases. Out of these three, he’ll direct one film, which is a black comedy. As for the other two films, one is set in Chandni Chowk while the other is a comedy thriller.

Sanjay Gupta’s last release was Mumbai Saga, starring John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi. It was released on March 19, 2021, when the Delta wave of Covid-19 had reared its ugly head.

Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana is experimenting with content again as he will be seen playing the role of a Hindi film superstar who is being hunted by notorious people in connection with a crime that he has allegedly committed. Ayushmann has also danced his heart out for the project as he is being seen dancing with Malaika Arora in a situational song in An Action Hero titled ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’ and with Nora Fatehi in ‘Jehda Nasha’.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to dance with two of the biggest dancing stars of India – Malaika Arora in the situational song ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’ and Nora Fatehi in ‘Jehda Nasha’ in my upcoming release An Action Hero. They are stunningly gorgeous performers and they are also beautiful human beings. I had the best time working with them for these dance numbers which I hope will be loved by audiences across the country,” says Ayushmann.

He adds, “Essaying the role of a superstar from the Hindi film industry has been a fun ride for me as I not only got to do some hardcore action in the film but also got to dance with these sensational dancers who have got everyone hooked with their incredible talent.”

Ayushmann further says, “I have tried to match steps with them and this experience will be forever memorable for me because I have danced my heart out for the first time in a film and had so much fun! Dancing like this in my films was part of my bucket list for sure and I’m amazed that it got fulfilled with Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi.”

The rollercoaster thriller, directed by Anirudh Iyer, is set to release on December 2.

Kangana Ranaut wraps Assam schedule of Emergency; treats fans with some unseen BTS, see pics

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and a section of her fans are excited about her upcoming release, Emergency, ever since she dropped its teaser. Thus, the actress keeps her fans updated with the development through her verified social media handle. In her latest post on Instagram, Ranaut announced the Assam schedule wrap of the upcoming film along with a few BTS.

In the behind-the-scenes photos, the actress-turned-director can be seen busy shooting and scouting at different locations in the Indian state. In a few shots, she can be seen sharing a hearty laugh with the crew while in others, she can be seen discussing the frames. Instagramming the multiple-picture post, Kangana wrote, “Some BTS stills from Emergency Assam schedule.” It is worth mentioning here that a couple of hours before sharing the below post on her media feed, the Queen actress had announced the wrap through an Instagram story.

Within a few hours, many from her Insta fam, especially from Assam, took to the comments section and showered love on the Bollywood diva. “Thankyou for coming to Assam,” wrote a user, while another commented, “Nice you had visited my place.” On the other hand, her co-star Mahima Chaudhry also reacted to the post with a heart-eye emoticon.

Bhediya Box Office Estimate Day 4: Drops by 50 percent on Monday; collects around Rs. 4 crores

Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon starrer Bhediya has seen a dip in business on the fourth day at the box office. According to early estimates, the creature comedy has dipped in the range of 45% to 50% on Monday, with collections expected to be in the range of Rs. 3.75 to 4.25 crores. The drop was bigger than expected and Bhediya had to stay in the Rs. 5 crore range to have a chance at the box office in the long run.

The drop has come across the board, be it single screens or multiplexes. Bhediya is finding it tough to sustain itself in the national multiplex chains even though its target audience is in metros. The drop and weekend trend indicate that the word of mouth on the ground is a lot different from what we see in the digital world.

Bhediya’s four-day total now stands at around Rs. 32 crores, and the movie is looking at an opening week collection of Rs. 40 crores. The lifetime business of Bhediya will depend on the second weekend trend, but the film is certain to stay below the Rs. 70 crore number.

The business was impacted a little by Drishyam, but eventually, the on-ground reports were probably not up to the mark to help the film stay afloat in the long run and make up for the minimal losses caused due to the Drishyam impact. A lifetime of Rs. 85 crores would have been a decent result, but that’s ruled out now, as Monday should have been around Rs. 5.50 crores.

Anupam Kher takes a sly dig at IFFI Jury Head for calling The Kashmir Files “propaganda, vulgar movie”; Darshan Kumaar also reacts

The event of the 53rd International Film Festival Of India this year was quite happening, given that it premiered some of the most noteworthy Bollywood films released in 2022. And, when it comes to noteworthy films of 2022, the Vivek Agnihotri directorial The Kashmir Files is nearly impossible to miss out on. However, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, who was also one of the jury heads of IFFI, and him calling the film “propaganda and vulgar” have created a buzz on the internet. Hours after a video of him from the event went viral, The Kashmir Files actors Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumaar reacted to it.

Taking a sly dig at Naved Lapid’s remark on TKF, Anupam Kher shared a post on his verified social media handle. The multiple-picture post included his still from the film as well as the official cover of The Schindler’s List. In Hindi, the actor wrote, “No matter how high the height of the lie is… It is always smaller in front of the truth.” As soon as Kher shared the post on his handles, a section of netizens extended their support in the comments section.

The Schindler’s List, which was released in 1993, revolves around a German industrialist who saved more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust.

As mentioned above, Darshan Kumaar also expressed his disappointment over the IFFI jury member’s comment. In an interview with TOI, Kumar said, “Everyone has their own individual opinions on anything they see and perceive. But one can’t deny the fact that The Kashmir Files is a film which has depicted the actual plight of the Kashmiri pandit community, who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism. So this film is not based on vulgarity but on reality.”

For the unversed, Nadav Lapid condemned The Kashmir Files during his speech at the event. In a video, he can be heard saying, “All of us were disturbed and shocked by the movie The Kashmir Files. It felt to us like a propaganda, vulgar movie that’s inappropriate for an artistic, competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.”
