Doctor Strange’s Brother Is Basically Marvel’s BATMAN
Superheroes tend to have a tragic family history, but Doctor Strange took this trope to new heights. His little sister Donna drowned while still in her teens, and Stephen always held himself responsible for the accident that took her life. His mother Beverly died a few years later, causing Stephen even more grief. Two years after that, Stephen’s father Eugene passed away and Stephen wouldn’t visit his deathbed. And then there was Stephen’s brother, Victor, who became Batman...Well, sort of.
Actually, Victor – much like the rest of Stephen Strange’s family – suffered a horrible accident. Shortly after Eugene Strange’s death, Victor confronted Stephen for abandoning their father in his final moments and ran out into the street, directly into the path of an oncoming car. Unable to cope with losing any more family members, Stephen placed Victor’s broken body in cryogenic storage, hoping that medical science could still save him one day…

As it turned out, it wouldn’t be science that saved Victor but magic. Shortly after sticking his brother in a refrigerator, Strange suffered the car accident that cost him his hands and his fortune (although the warehouse where he kept Victor’s frozen body was still kept running thanks to a trust fund Stephen made sure he couldn’t access). Ten years later, however, the warehouse was torn down and Victor was released – as a vampire!
How did Victor wind up one of the undead? Turns out, shortly after learning the mystic arts, Stephen tried to restore his brother to life by reciting arcane spells from the Book of Vishanti without even knowing what those spells would actually do. Thanks to this ridiculously stupid and careless strategy, one of the spells – the Vampiric Verses – ended up transforming Victor into a vampire. Cold storage kept him from running rampant, but when the warehouse was destroyed, “Vampire Vic” was unleashed.
Victor ended up being captured and used as a pawn by the immortal Marie Laveau, who needed vampire blood to stay young. After Marie outfitted Victor in a costume similar to Captain America’s old vampire enemy Baron Blood, Victor wound up looking like a second-rate Batman. Ultimately siding with Doctor Strange against Laveau, Victor decided to take the whole “Batman” motif a step further by becoming a Baron Blood superhero and feeding on criminals. He even started dating Doctor Strange’s old girlfriend Morgana Blessing, who let him feed on small amounts of her blood (and actually developed a weird kinky fetish for that sort of thing). Although Victor did manage to defeat several supernatural foes with his powers, his attempts to be a “vampire superhero” went south after he discovered the criminals he bit came back as vampires. Eventually, Victor’s own blood cravings began to overpower him, and, not wanting to become a monster, he killed himself by plunging a stake through his own heart.
While Doctor Strange is one of Marvel’s more bizarre heroes, the revelation that Stephen Strange had a previously unknown brother, kept him frozen for years, accidentally turned him into a vampire by randomly reciting spells, and later let him run around in a bat costume as a vampire superhero is easily one of the weirdest Doctor Strange tales (which is saying something). Victor hasn’t been mentioned in years, but now at least trivia fans can know that Doctor Strange and Batman were once brothers... kind of.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Actress Thought She Lost Liz Allan Role To Zendaya
Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Laura Harriersays she thoughtshe had lost the Liz Allan role to Zendaya. Harrier is a former model and actress and was first recognized for her role as Destiny Evans in the reboot of One Life to Live. Spider-Man: Homecoming was her major film debut, and since then, she has also portrayed Patrice Dumas in BlacKkKlansman. Most recently, she played struggling actress Camille Washington in Netflix's miniseries Hollywood.
Harrier's Liz Allan was Peter Parker's love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While not as well-known as Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy, Liz Allan has her own history with Spider-Man. Liz actually made an appearance in the very first Spider-Man comic book issue in 1962. The character was nameless at first, then finally given a name in The Amazing Spider-Man #4. The character has also appeared on Spider-Man shows and novels as a side character. Liz is also a mutant in certain universes and has feelings for the webslinger. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, the driven and popular high school student was on Peter's academic decathlon team, and was revealed to be the daughter of The Vulture.

Harrier recently sat down for an interview with Net-A-Porter, during which she explained that when she found out Zendaya was cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, she assumed that was it for her role as Liz: “After I did my screen test for Spiderman, before I had heard anything, it came out a few weeks later that Zendaya was going to be cast in it, so I just figured I hadn’t got the job. She must have.†Harrier explains that she called her agent, who reassured her that she was still in the running.
Harrier continues, "I thought it was incredible and ground-breaking of Marvel to put us both in those roles and not to make it about our blackness. We were just girls who went to a school in New York and that’s what New York City looks like; films should reflect that." Harrier finishes by saying that she had a great time filming the movie and that she's friends with Zendaya now. Harrier also mentioned enjoying the movie's wire work.
In a competitive field and industry, in which minorities and POC have to vie for the same small number of roles, it was a big deal to see two black female leads in a major studio film. Thus far, the vast majority of the MCU movies have centered on characters portrayed by straight, white men. The exceptions to this are movies like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. There are so many superhero stories left to tell, and hopefully they will feature more diverse casts.
At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Harrier's character Liz Allan moved away with her mother in the events following the arrest of her father, The Vulture. It opened up future stories for Zendaya's character, MJ, to play Peter's romantic interest in future movies. Spider-Man: Homecoming was immediately followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home, and there is a third film planned for release.

Ruby Rose’s ‘Batwoman’ Replacement Will Be A New Character
Ever since the news of Ruby Rose departing Batwoman after one season, there has been speculation on whether we would simply see a new actress play Kate Kane or a completely new character take on the mantle. All we’ve known so far is that the new lead will be a representative of the LGBTQ community. Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that season two will introduce a new character to replace Rose’s Kate Kane and assume the Batwoman mantle.
Entertainment Weekly’s report stems from a post on Reddit that revealed a Batwoman casting call for a character named Ryan Wilder. The document that was shared on Reddit describes the character who will replace Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane as the following:
“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy, and untamed. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, reformed and sober, Ryan lives in van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk from an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly disciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”

HBO Max Head Responds To Criticism Of Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Release
There have been mixed reactions to the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Obviously, many are excited to see Snyder’s vision for the DC film come to fruition, but others have said that it sets a dangerous precedent for Hollywood by allowing filmmakers to redo a movie after a demand from fans. Some fans are now looking for the release of David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad and others following the announcement.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will require more than $30 million to be completed and won’t be released until next year. In an interview with The Verge, HBO Max head Tony Goncalves responded the criticism of the precedent the Snyder Cut might set with other Warner Bros. properties now that it’s getting released:
“Look, definitely not a precedent. And you’re right. There’s different types of fandoms. There’s the fandom you just described, and there’s other fandoms. My reference to the fandoms is the fact that we’re in a space where consumers are loud. Consumers guide, and we absolutely have to listen as industry. I had a boss that once said, “Industry and consumers aren’t always aligned, but consumers do tend to win.” It’s a fine balance. And I think when it comes to video, when it comes to entertainment, when it comes to content, consumers have never had more choice, and they’ve never had more of a voice. But that doesn’t mean that we will go and invest our dollars in every single fandom that exists. But I think the reference to the Snyder Cut and theFriends fandom is the fact that consumers are speaking, and we have to listen. It doesn’t mean that we’re going to go redo every movie ever made. But I think that we definitely have to have our ear to the ground. And I think we do. I just go back to look at the buzz that theHarry Potter library brought us yesterday. It was a wonderful surprise and delight. It’s because consumers are passionate about these franchises.â€Â

Riverdale Star Cole Sprouse Arrested At Black Lives Matter Protest
Riverdale star Cole Sprouse has revealed that he was arrested while participating in a Black Lives Matter protest in Santa Monica. In a lengthy Instagram post, Sprouse said he and a group of others were arrested yesterday, having refused police demands to vacate an area, whilst also suggesting that they made it impossible for those who chose to leave to do so.
Taking to social media, here’s what he shared:
A group of peaceful protesters, myself included, were arrested yesterday in Santa Monica. So before the voracious horde of media sensationalism decides to somehow turn it about me, there’s a clear need to speak about the circumstances: Black Lives Matter. Peace, riots, looting, are an absolutely legitimate form of protest. the media is by nature only going to show the most sensational, which only proves a long standing racist agenda. I was detained when standing in solidarity, as were many of the final vanguard within Santa Monica. We were given the option to leave, and were informed that if we did not retreat, we would be arrested. When many did turn to leave, we found another line of police officers blocking our route, at which point, they started zip tying us. It needs to be stated that as a straight white man, and a public figure, the institutional consequences of my detainment are nothing in comparison to others within the movement.
This is ABSOLUTELY not a narrative about me, and I hope the media doesn’t make it such. This is, and will be, a time about standing ground near others as a situation escalates, providing educated support, demonstrating and doing the right thing. This is precisely the time to contemplate what it means to stand as an ally. I hope others in my position do as well. I noticed that there are cameras that roll within the police cruisers during the entirety of our detainment, hope it helps. I’ll speak no more on the subject, as I’m (1) not well versed enough to do so, (2) not the subject of the movement, and (3) uninterested in drawing attention away from the leaders of the #BLM movement. I will be, again, posting the link in my story to a comprehensive document for donations and support.

The actor is just the latest prominent figure to voice their own experience with the movement sparked by the death of George Floyd, with many like Sprouse choosing to actively participate in protests. Other responses have included Seth Rogen’s dedicated (and expletive-laden) sniping on Instagram, Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively donating $200,000 towards NAACP Legal Defence Fund and Floyd Mayweather offering to pay for George Floyd’s funeral (an offer which has been accepted). The number of stories are multitudinous and those barely scratch the surface.
For a group of people so often perceived to live in some kind of wealth-coated LA bubble (not entirely unfair), this crisis has pulled celebrities into the nation’s state of total-activitism like nothing else I can remember.
Of course, many will pull the “who cares†card on these declarations of support. So what if Cole Sprouse is protesting? Cole Sprouse, that kid from The Suite Life? Remember The Suite Life of Zack and Cody? He was the lesser Martin anyway. But I find it striking that people of all creeds, no matter how glitzy, are putting themselves in harm’s way for this. Standing up for your neighbor’s rights isn’t something to be sniffed at, whomever is doing so.
