Harry Potter Creator J.K. Rowling's Anti-Trans Tweets Spark Anger

Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling has come under fire for her latest anti-transgender tweets. Themind behind the beloved Wizarding World, Rowling has increasingly drawn the ire of her fans in the years since the final Harry Potter book and movie came out.Over the past decade, Rowling has become infamous for trying to retcon Harry Potter canon to make it seem more inclusive, whether it be through her comments on Twitter or official works like the Fantastic Beasts prequel series (which she writes). She's also become known for adding, frankly, bizarre details to the Wizarding World mythos, like how students at Hogwarts went to the bathroom before plumbing.

On a more personal level, Rowling has also drawn criticism for being a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist or TERF, aka. a feminist who doesn't believe transgender women are real women. In addition to having a history of "Liking" anti-trans articles and comments posted to Twitter, she took to the social media platform last December to support Maya Forstater, a researcher who was fired shortly after making transphobic statements. Now, Rowling has once again sparked anger online for posting ant-trans comments.

On Saturday, June 6, Rowling tweeted about an article titled "Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate", saying “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?†Her comments were quickly criticized for being transphobic, promoting Rowling to post a series of followup tweets. You can read her comments below.

LGBTQ rights organization GLAAD has since responded to Rowling's comments on Twitter, saying "JK Rowling continues to align herself with an ideology which willfully distorts facts about gender identity and people who are trans. In 2020, there is no excuse for targeting trans people." They've further asked people to lend their backing to organizations that support transgender individuals (particularly, transgender people of color), including the Marsha P. Johnson Institute and National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition. Queer artists like writers and cartoonists Molly Knox Ostertag and Kate Leth have also publicly criticized Rowling's tweets. Many of them, like Ostertag, have additionally mentioned being confounded Rowling would decide to go on "a transphobic screed about biological gender" in the middle of the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests and coronavirus pandemic.

It remains to be seen if the criticism of Rowling have any noticeable impact on her career, including the Fantastic Beasts movies. Fantastic Beasts 3 had to postpone the start of filming when the coronavirus lockdowns began in late February and early March, but is now allowed to resume production in the UK. Warner Bros. is still planning to make five Fantastic Beasts movies in total, though they may abandon ship if the series continues to see a downward trend at the box office after 2018's The Crimes of Grindelwald. The situation with Rowling is also bad for HBO Max, which launched in the U.S. at the end of May with the surprise inclusion of all eight Harry Potter movies.

Star Wars: How Many Jedi Yoda Trained Over 800 Years

Yoda was a legendary Jedi Master who spent eight centuries tutoring generations of Jedi, but how many did he train during that time? Yoda made his first appearance in the Star Wars universe in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, when Luke Skywalker traveled to Dagobah to seek his guidance after being advised by the Force ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi to do so, who described him as “the Jedi Master who instructed him”.

Yoda left an unforgettable first impression in Luke and viewers, as he tested the young Jedi’s patience by not revealing his true identity and promising to lead him to Yoda, all while acting as a comical individual. Yoda found that Luke had the same anger that caused his father’s downfall, and was initially reluctant to train him, but ended up agreeing. Yoda briefly came back in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, where on his deathbed told Luke that his training was complete but he would not be a Jedi until he confronted his father, Darth Vader. Star Wars fans got to see more of Master Yoda in the prequel trilogy, where he foresaw “grave danger” in Anakin Skywalker’s training.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith saw Yoda escaping from the clone troopers ordered to kill Jedi generals and discovering that Anakin (now Darth Vader) killed younglings at the Jedi Temple. After battling Palpatine, Yoda went into exile on Dagobah, and Luke became his final apprentice. Yoda witnessed the rise and fall of the Galactic Republic as well as the rise of the Galactic Empire, and shared his knowledge on the Force with many apprentices in over eight centuries, but exactly how many Jedi did he train?

According to Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need To Know, Yoda trained approximately 20,000 Jedi after reaching the rank of Master. Although it’s a very impressive number, it’s important to keep in mind that Yoda lived for 900 years, and became Master around the age of 100. Another important detail to take into account is that Yoda also taught outside the Master/Padawan relationship, and trained Jedi younglings before they were teamed up with Jedi Masters, among those Obi-Wan Kenobi.

One of Yoda’s Padawans was Dooku, who was taken by the Jedi Order after being abandoned by his family. Yoda taught him the Jedi arts, but Dooku ended up turning to the dark side and was taken as apprentice by Darth Sidious, thus becoming Sith Lord Darth Tyranus. Other Padawans of Master Yoda were Cin Drallig (killed by Darth Vader at the Jedi Temple), and Mace Windu, who began his training with Cyslin Myr and continued with Yoda as his Master. Given Yoda’s wisdom and experience, it’s not surprising that he trained so many Jedi, and that ends up adding even more to his status as a legend in the Star Wars universe.

The Flash Just Confirmed: Every Conspiracy Theory is TRUE?

Warning: Spoilers ahead forThe Flash: Fastest Man Alive #6

As The Flash, Barry Allen is the Fastest Man Alive thanks to his powers of super-speed. He's also pretty smart too, having a day job as a forensic scientist. However, what happens to Barry's intelligence when he's faced with several events that cause him to have doubts about everything he thought was real and true?Multiple large conspiracy theories seem to be proven real and true right in front of Barry eyes in The Flash: Fastest Man Alive #6 . Has Barry become so fast that he's become aware that animals do talk behind our backs, or that Slenderman is indeed real? Or is there something else afoot beyond Bigfoot?

In the issue, Barry Allen is excited to go to an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NASA Apollo missions. Before he gets there, he does save a girl from a downed power line, just doing his job as the Scarlet Speedster. However, upon making it to the celebration, Barry is astonished to hear one of the retired astronauts say that the entire moon landing was fake and filmed using a green screen, as many wild theorists on the internet have proposed.

Barry struggles to believe that to be the actual truth, as it's incredibly contrary to what scientific mind has learned and known. Even so, he feels as though he has to confirm the truth with his friend Hal Jordan, a Green Lantern and space-faring hero. On his way to see Hal, Barry is shocked to hear a group of barnyard animals talking with one another, who then ask Barry to not narc on them to other humans. Thinking he might be going crazy, The Flash decides to go on a long run over the ocean to clear his head, which causes him to almost run off the edge of the world, as it's revealed to be flat, just like the Flat Earth conspiracists say.

At this point in The Flash: Fastest Man Alive #6, Barry knows that something is seriously wrong, and that there couldn't possibly be this many things he once thought of as myth and conspiracy to be somehow proven true without him knowing. He realizes something more must be a play. Barry then remembers the girl he saved, and that her name was Ruse. Due to the fact that "ruse" is another word for "trick", Barry gets a pretty good idea of whose behind all the crazy and inexplicable events he's seeing: Axel Walker, The Trickster. Barry figures out that when he saved the girl, really an automaton, it injected him with nanites that made him see whatever Trickster wanted him to see when he used his super-speed. For example: a bunch of conspiracy theories seemingly being proven as fact in order to truly mess with The Flash's head.

After determining Trickster's location, the Flash speeds off to take him into custody, this time ignoring what appears in front of him such as the existence of Bigfoot, the sinister Slenderman, or aliens building the pyramids. Once finding Trickster, Axel reveals that while the old Trickster Jesse James used toy bombs and puzzles, Axel wanted to be more modern and mess with Barry's psyche courtesy of the nanites. Barry actually commends Axel's creativity, which is great example of their relationship. Trickster is fairly tame compared to most rogues and villains in the DC Universe, so The Flash has a sort of friendly rapport with the foe as seen here while taking him into custody.

It's fairly similar to Trickster's appearance in the animated Justice League series, where after having a civil conversation to get information at a bar, Flash leaves Trickster and simply tells him to turn himself in once he's finished with his drink, and Trickster actually complies. It's a pretty funny relationship, and this issue is another great chapter of their ongoing development.

The BLIND Green Lantern Puts Marvel’s Daredevil To Shame

Throughout the DC Universe, the Green Lanterns patrol various space sectors, meting out justice. Chosen by the Guardians of OA, the Lanterns focus the strength of their will through their power rings, allowing them to create powerful constructs of hard green light. To be selected as a member of the Green Lantern Corps is a great honor, as the rings are considered the most powerful weapons in the universe requiring them to be wielded by only the most noble beings.

But what if one of those noble beings had no concept of light, color, or vision? What if the Green Lantern Corps had to patrol a sector of space that was so devoid of light even their power rings couldn’t illuminate the entire darkness? These are questions faced by the Green Lantern Katma Tui when she found herself recruiting… the first blind Green Lantern.

Related: 10 Weird Green Lantern Characters We Want To See In Green Lantern Corps

The story took place in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #3 in a story appropriately titled “In Blackest Night” by the legendary writer Alan Moore. In the story, Katma Tui tells the Guardians of the time she was assigned to venture in to the Obsidian Deeps, a sector of space completely devoid of all light, in order to find and appoint a Green Lantern to protect that sector. Katma does indeed find a noble being named Rot Lop Fan, but there’s a problem…

Because Rot Lop Fan’s people evolved in complete darkness, they learned to sense their surroundings through sound, not light. Born completely blind, Rot Lop Fan does not even know the concept of sight – let alone the idea of light or color. Thus, when Katma Tui attempts to recruit him into the Green Lantern Corps, the universal translator in her ring is unable to translate the words “Green” or “Lantern” since Rot Lop Fan’s language has no words for such things.

To adapt to the situation, Katma Tui decides to explain how the ring works by having Rot Lop Fan think of different types of sound. The ring picks up on his thoughts and manifests a bell construct. Rot Lop Fan is then able to create energy constructs – not out of light but out of sound waves.

As Katma Tui was still unable to translate the words “Green Lantern,” she asked Rot Lop Fan what sound was most pleasing or soothing to him. Rot Lop Fan stated that he enjoyed the F-sharp note, so Katma Tui renamed the Green Lantern Corps “The F-Sharp Bell Corps” for the blind Green Lantern – who calls himself “The F-Sharp Bell.”

Katma Tui goes on to explain that the ring’s power battery is a type of “tuning fork” to recharge the ring. She then comes up with an entirely new Green Lantern Oath specifically designed for Rot Lop Fan’s unique perceptions: “In loudest din or hush profound, my ears catch evil’s slightest sound. Let those who toll out evil’s knell, beware my power: The F-Sharp Bell!”

The translation proves effective and Rot Lop Fan is empowered as the Green Lantern of Space Sector 911 – with a modified uniform that has a bell insignia instead of the tradition lantern emblem. This leads Katma Tui to admit that Rot Lop Fan holds an unusual place in the Green Lantern Corps, for while he is a member of the Corps, he is not a typical Green Lantern. The Guardians acknowledge this and let her know they will make a decision on his status, ironically letting Katma know, “We’ll try not to keep him in the dark too long…”

As a Green Lantern, Rot Lop Fan can use his ring to create any kind of structure he can imagine, and – while protecting his space sector – is essentially immune to the Green Lantern’s vulnerability to the color yellow since colors can’t exist in total darkness. Moreover, his sensitive hearing can “see” anything – at one point he was even able to perceive that a barrier seemingly made of energy was actually constructed out of glass based on how it sounded. While Rot Lop Fan eventually came to understand concepts like sight through his interactions with other Lanterns, his unique way of perceiving the world was ultimately his greatest strength – showing that sometimes, a sightless Green Lantern can shine the Corps’ light in the best way.
