Jersey Box Office Estimate Day 5: Faces rejection BIG time after further crash; collects Rs. 1.36 crores

The Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey has crashed further on Tuesday as the collections went down by 15 percent on Tuesday as compared to Monday. According to early estimates, the movie has collected in the range of Rs. 1.36 to 1.45 crores on Tuesday to take the five day total collection to Rs. 17.81 crores.

The movie will now fold up around Rs. 20 crore mark and is a major flop at the box office. The lifetime collections of Jersey would be similar to the lifetime collections of Rangoon [Rs. 20.68 cr.] and Chance Pe Dance [Rs. 20.62 cr.]. Also Jersey‘s lifetime collections is the same as the Day 1 earnings of Shahid Kapoor’s last film, Kabir Singh [Rs. 20.21 cr]. The film will be discontinued from major properties this Friday to be replaced by Heropanti 2 and Runway 34.

Shahid Kapoor has seen two extremes in his last two releases – the biggest blockbuster in Kabir Singh and one of the biggest theatrical flops with Jersey. It would be interesting to see his move from hereon on the feature film front.

Box Office: KGF – Chapter 2 firing all cylinders on Monday, Jersey doesn’t sustain

It was a day of two extreme contrasts on Monday. While KGF: Chapter 2 (Hindi) was extraordinary despite being in its second week, Jersey could just not find any sort of a hold despite this being its first Monday. The gap between the two movies is way too huge and now it’s only going to expand further in the coming weekdays.

Let’s talk about the Yash starrer first. The film is hardly getting impacted by anything around it and is confusing to have its victory march. This was pretty much evident by the fact that after Friday collections of Rs  11.56 crores, the film stayed quite stable on Monday to bring in Rs. 8.28 crores. This is simply superb since anything more than Rs. 7 crores would have been quite good too and here the film is still in the upwards of Rs. 8 crores. As a result, the overall total for the film stands at Rs. 329.40 crores and around Rs. 350 crores milestone is on the cards before the close of the week.

Meanwhile, Jersey is struggling as its total has reached only Rs. 17.25* crores. This is definitely not what everyone associated with the film would have bargained for during its making or later around the promotional and marketing campaign. A film with Shahid Kapoor in the lead and being a remake of a popular film warranted good footfalls at theatres. Moreover, the film has been made well too. It’s just unfortunate that audiences were not much aware around the film releasing and later with word of mouth not quite kicking in, even Monday stood at mere Rs. 1.75* crores.

A sad state of affairs indeed.

Applause Entertainment is partnering with Ellipsis Entertainment and Mrs. Funnybones Movies on their next feature. The film is an adaptation of the short story ‘Salaam Noni Appa’ from Twinkle Khanna’s best-selling book, “The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad”. Twinkle has emerged as one of the country’s foremost humor authors and columnists, with her biting wit and sardonic insights about modern-day life. The film is a winning comic romance that breaks stereotypes and is to be directed by one of India’s leading advertising mavericks, Sonal Dabral, who makes his debut with the film.

Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to adapt Salaam Noni Appa, a delightful story that defies convention, with Twinkle’s irrepressible wit, and her distinctive gaze on love, life and relationships. 17 Years of Waqt EXCLUSIVE: “For Waqt’s remake, if Akshay Kumar is ready, I’d say that he should play the father and a younger actor be cast as the son” – Vipul Shah

The family entertainer, Waqt – The Race Against Time, released 17 years ago, on April 22, 2005, and is fondly remembered even today. It told the story of a father who realizes he has a terminal illness. How he takes a harsh step to ensure that his son becomes a responsible man forms the crux of the film. The film was loved due to the concept, music, comic scenes and of course the performance of the lead actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, producer-director Vipul Shah opened up about the process of casting these two talented performers. He said, “I narrated this idea to Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar while we were shooting for Aankhen (2002). They both came on board. Amit ji even came and saw the play ‘Awajo Vahala Phari Malishu’, from where Waqt – The Race Against Time was adapted, and loved it.”

Vipul Shah continued, “As for Akshay Kumar, he has always had a soft spot for father-son stories because he was very close to his father. So, for him, the story worked the day I narrated it to him.”

The film gave Vipul Shah to turn producer, “I then kept waiting for the right partner. I met some very senior producers but things didn’t work out. Finally, Manmohan Shetty came on board. He didn’t produce but he backed the movie and he told me to start my banner. That is how the film took off.”

When asked who would he like to cast if a remake of Waqt – The Race Against Time is to be made now, Vipul Shah replied, “It’s a very difficult question to answer because replacing Amitabh Bachchan or even Akshay Kumar is not possible. However, if Akshay is ready, I’d say that he should play the father and a younger actor be cast as the son. It’ll be amazing to redo it that way!”

Ranveer Singh emanates retro vibes in multi-coloured crochet pants with flowery patterned shirt for ‘Firecracker’ song launch from Jayeshbhai Jordaar

Ranveer Singh on Monday afternoon launched the first song ‘Firecracker’ from Jayeshbhai Jordaar at a college. Ranveer Singh, after all, is no stranger to outlandish and eccentric fashion trends. When it comes to men’s fashion, the ace Bollywood star is known for going as quirky as possible and his latest look is no exception.

In his oversized shirt and pants, Ranveer emanated strong retro vibes. Ranveer’s trousers are from the shelves of the designer label Roch Studio. His crochet trousers include a floor-length hem and a broad flare with multi-coloured stripes and a drawstring. He paired it with a half-unbuttoned yellow and orange flowery shirt from Koyboytoy’s racks.

Ranveer wore tinted sunglasses and a well-groomed beard and hair to complete his ensemble. He rounded off his look with a pendant in his neck and neon sneakers. He was styled by Nitasha Gaurav.

Ranveer Singh plays a married man battling to save the life of his unborn daughter in Jayeshbhai Jordaar. Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah also star in the film, which will be released in theatres on May 13.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranveer will be next seen in Cirkus alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde and he will also star in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani alongside Alia Bhatt.

Shah Rukh Khan meets ‘Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh’ author at Mannat, pens a handwritten note

If there’s one thing Shah Rukh Khan will do is greet his fans with utmost love. The actor recently met an author Shrayana Bhattacharya, who has penned ‘Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh’. She got an opportunity to meet SRK at his residence Mannat on Sunday. She took to her Instagram to reveal the moment and also said that she received a heartfelt note.

She posted a photo of the note and wrote, “They say you should never meet your heroes. Whoever wrote/thought that had clearly never encountered @iamsrk After meeting him for an hour at Mannat last night, I can only say that he is superhuman, not of this universe, yet the most humane. A million thanks to @poojadadlani02 without whom this would not have happened. The book has finally reached its intended destination: his library at Mannat. Yes, we took photos. But woh kitaab ki one year anniversary par post karenge #finallyfoundshahrukh.”

SRK penned a handwritten to Shrayana which read, “Thank you for putting me to some good use. My love and thanks to you and all those wonderful women who like me so much. More power to you and your tribe.”

“Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh” was released in 2021. A description from Goodreads says, “Embracing Hindi film idol Shah Rukh Khan allows them a small respite from an oppressive culture, a fillip to their fantasies of friendlier masculinity in Indian men. ”

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan will return to the big screen on Republic Day with Pathaan and in 2023 December with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
