Boney Kapoor and Ram Gopal Varma react to Mahesh Babu’s comment on ‘Bollywood can’t afford him’

During the launch of the Adivi Sesh starrer Major, one of the statements that garnered a lot of attention was what Mahesh Babu said about his Bollywood debut. The Telugu superstar and producer maintained that even though he received a lot of film offers, he believes that they can’t afford him. While many had their own opinions about what Mahesh Babu meant by ‘Bollywood can’t afford him’, here’s what producer Boney Kapoor and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had to say about the comment.

Ram Gopal Varma expressed confusion on the statement given by Mahesh Babu. Explaining further during his recent interview with IndiaToday.in, he stated that Bollywood is not a company. It is a media coined term. So he was unable to understand what Mahesh Babu meant by Bollywood can’t afford him. He also stated that cost is applicable only for an individual company or production house. So he couldn’t understand how it was all generalized to Bollywood. RGV also spoke about dubbing of South films that were released in non-South Indian markets and how the South industry made money on it.

On the other hand, producer Boney Kapoor in his interview with India Today maintained that he is no one to comment on somebody else’s opinion. Maintaining the stance of ‘to each its own’, the filmmaker refused to comment adding that he belongs to both industries since he has produced Tamil films as well as Telugu films. He also mentioned that he will be doing a Malayalam and Kannada film too. He further went on to add that Mahesh has the right to express his opinion and that he has his own reasons. He concluded his statement by adding that Mahesh probably feels that Hindi industry can’t afford him and it is good for him if he feels that way.

Readers may be aware that just a day ago, Mahesh Babu’s team released a statement clarifying that the Prince superstar respects all languages and that he only meant that he is comfortable where he is.

Ranveer Singh opens up on the Hindi Vs South Films debate; says, “Sab apna hi hai, yaar, Indian cinema ek hai”

Last month we saw the release of the much-talked-about film KGF – Chapter 2 starring Yash, prior to that was the SS Rajamouli directorial RRR preceded by the Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1. What was interesting about these releases was the fact that each of them went on to dominate the Hindi box office. Following this evident box office rule, Kiccha Sudeep set off a massive chain reaction when he Tweeted claiming that Hindi was no more our national language. Following Sudeep’s post, Ajay Devgn, who disagreed, replied with a retort, setting off the massive Hindi Vs South films debate.

Now, the latest actor to join in is none other than the Cirkus star Ranveer Singh. In an interview with entertainment portal Bollywood Life, Ranveer finally opened up about the topic saying, “I saw Pushpa, I don’t speak Telugu. I saw RRR, I don’t speak the language – but I was in awe absolutely of these films and of the craft. I can only say that I appreciate excellence in craft that the films have showcased and I’m very proud of how wonderfully well they’re doing and how they’ve been accepted by different kinds of audiences. It makes me very, very proud because I’ve never looked upon such films as others.” Concluding his explanation, Ranveer added, “Yeh toh sab apna hi hai, yaar; Indian cinema ek hai (they’re all our films, my friend; Indian cinema is one).”

Besides this, the actor also explained his standpoint on the topic saying, “See, I’m an artist, and I don’t have that much knowledge about film business as I’m neither a trade person nor a producer. I’m a paid professional, I get money to showcase my art before the camera and my knowledge is limited to that. So, only from my personal point of view, I can say that these films (South movies dubbed in Hindi and marketed as pan-India films) are actually great films as they are.”

Back on the work front, Ranveer Singh recently announced the release date of his Rohit Shetty film Cirkus along with launching its first look. Besides this, the actor will next be seen in the Yash Raj Films venture Jayeshbhai Jordaar which is slated to release later this month followed by the Karan Johar film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

“My Aston Martin is named ‘Ram Pyaari’; Maruti 1000 called Prema” – Jayeshbhai Jordaar star Ranveer Singh on getting a kick out of naming his luxury cars

Ranveer Singh, who will next be seen in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, has worked hard to make a mark in the industry. He is the finest actor this generation has seen and there are no two ways about it. If anyone has followed his decade-long career, the actor has often purchased luxury cars and continues to add the newest collections to the garage. Interestingly, along with purchasing them, he also loves to name the cars.

In a conversation with Top Gear magazine, Ranveer Singh spoke at length about his obsession with cars. He also said he loves to name his cars, adding, “My nana had a 118NE and I have fond memories of that car too. Then Maruti came out with the Maruti 1000 and it was an epic car. Owning a Maruti 1000 at that time meant a great deal. And it was actually after many years after the release of the Maruti 1000 that my father bought it. It was our prized possession! I think that it is my most memorable car of all time. Eventually, the Maruti 1000 was handed down to me. In a way, that was my first car, and I even had a name for her. I have a name for all my cars. And I get a kick out of giving each car a super cringy and random name (laughs) And because I was deeply in love with the Maruti 1000, I named her Prema. (My Aston Martin is named ‘Ram Pyaari’, for example).”

Furthermore, he mentioned that he is looking forward to his next acquisition. “And ever since the McLaren 720S got launched in India, I’m lusting to include it in my garage. Or maybe I’ll get a prancing horse maybe in Scuderia Red or maybe I’ll give her a cringing name like ‘Laali’,” he said.

Ranveer Singh will be seen in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, produced by Maneesh Sharma, and also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey, who debuts on Bollywood’s big screen opposite Ranveer. The film has been directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar and is releasing worldwide on May 13, 2022. The actor has several projects in the pipeline including Cirkus, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, and the Anniyan remake.
