However, the makers of the film and of course all related to it can finally breathe a sigh of relief with the Supreme Court refusing to stop the streaming of the film on OTT.
In a ruling passed earlier today, Thursday, a bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao upheld the order of the top court dated May 5, 2022, stating that the film would continue streaming. Further, in its judgement, it also directed the High Court to consider the revision petition filed by Hyderabad-based filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar, immediately after the summer vacation.
For the uninitiated, earlier this year a petition was filed to stop the release of Jhund, with the plaintiff, Nandi Chinni Kumar claiming copyright infringement. However, the plea was declined by the court, allowing the film to release in theatres. Following this, Kumar had moved the court yet again, this time seeking a stay on the streaming of the film on OTT. However, in April the High Court ordered status quo concerning the release of the movie on OTT platforms.
As for the film, Jhund that released on March 4, later featuring on Zee5 in May is a biographical sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, founder of NGO ‘Slum Soccer’. The film is about a notorious street gang that engages in petty crimes and other illegal activities. However, a coach shapes them into a football team. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Rinku Rajguru, Ankush Gedam, and Akash Thosar among others.

Jamie Dornan is also set to to star alongside Gal Gadot in the spy thriller Heart of Stone. The plot is kept under wraps. The Aeronauts filmmaker Tom Harper is on board to direct and the story is written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder.
The producer credits are shared by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger, along with Mockingbird’s Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, and Pilot Wave’s Gadot and Jaron Varsano. Patty Whitcher, Harper and Rucka are executive producing.

Sippy’s grandson Sameer Raj Sippy along with producer Vikram Khakhar. While the film is at the scripting stage, the makers are yet to finalise the director.
Producer Vikram Khakhar adds, “Digging into our own classics, we will find invaluable gems rather than scouting for stories, Internationally or Regionally. Placing Anand in the post Covid era, where we emphasise on the value of life, will enhance the story of Anand.”
Elated about the remake announcement, Producer Sameer Raj Sippy who feels that stories like these need to be narrated to the new generation, he said, “Keeping in mind the sensibilities of the original film and the emotions attached, I felt the current generation needs to be retold the many stories that are so relevant today and specially when there is a great appetite for good content.”

Hegde thanked Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs as well as Information and Broadcasting, and said, “It has always been a dream to work at Cannes and I think what’s amazing sir – thank you Anurag sir for making this happen – is that I have not come with a brand but I have come with brand India. I have come as a representative for India. There cannot be a bigger honour for me to be very honest, to come as an Indian actor celebrating Indian cinema.”

Hegde said, “We have many stories in India.” Speaking about renowned filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, she continued, “What the West loves about India is Satyajit Ray sir’s films, whether it is the Apu series or whether it is a film like ‘Nayak’ which is about a hero and his personal struggle and it has just been shot so beautifully. It’s got so much skill, so much craft and we have that talent in India, we have it. We just need to stop aping the West and we need to embrace our personal stories whether it is ‘Charulata’. These are like films that are from India which have been celebrated across the globe.”
Pooja Hegde also mentioned AR Rahman, Nawazuddin Siddiqui for their contributions to Indian cinema and paid tribute to late Irrfan Khan. She said, “Rahman sir, you have put India on the map. Nawaz sir, you are doing amazing work whether it is working with the West or like, if Irrfan sir was not here today, who also kind of put India on the map.” The actress finished her statement by saying, “So I just feel like we should stop aping the West.”
