Shamshera director Karan Malhotra opens up on the action in the Ranbir Kapoor film; says, “We created a 400-foot train for a one-take massive action sequence”

Ranbir Kapoor is playing a larger-than-life quintessential Hindi film hero with the action entertainer Shamshera. Ranbir, who is coming to the big screen four years after he delivered the blockbuster Sanju, is pitted against Sanjay Dutt who is playing an evil, merciless, cold-hearted brute force of nature, Shuddh Singh. Sanjay Dutt vs Ranbir Kapoor is the clash of the year on the big screen. The film has been directed by Karan Malhotra, who has crafted unique never seen before action set pieces that will leave audiences awestruck. One such massive action sequence featuring Ranbir happens on a train for which Karan has to construct a 400-foot train from the 1800’s!

Karan reveals, “From our set design to action set pieces, everything was crafted to ensure Shamshera gives audiences a visual extravaganza that is unforgettable. However, we were clear that whatever we did, it had to look like it was from the era that the film was set in. One such larger-than-life action sequence happens on a train. There were challenges because getting a train from the 1800s wasn’t possible.”

He adds, “So, we created an approximately 400-foot train for that sequence. It was a huge task! I congratulate the production design and YFX (YRF’s VFX arm) team of Shamshera for taking up such a mammoth responsibility and executing it so brilliantly. It took around a month to construct this train in all its glory. For me, I had to do a massive action sequence on the train and I was adamant about showing how grand such a sequence can look on the big screen.”

He further says, “I wanted to do it in one take so that the adrenaline rush the audiences feel while watching it would be unparalleled to anything they have ever seen! Credit to Ranbir for acing this scene. I remember telling him after shooting this that he was born to do action films because he is naturally gifted as an actor to play any part convincingly. You have to see the film to understand what he has done as an action hero in Shamshera!”

The story of Shamshera is set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shuddh Singh. This is the story of a man who became a slave, a slave who became a leader and then a legend for his tribe. He relentlessly fights for his tribe’s freedom and dignity. His name is Shamshera.

The high-octane, adrenaline-pumping entertainer is set in the 1800s in the heartland of India. It has the big promise of a never seen before Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Shamshera in the film! Sanjay Dutt plays Ranbir’s arch-enemy in this huge casting coup and his showdown with Ranbir will be something to watch out for as they will ferociously go after each other with no mercy.

Directed by Karan Malhotra, this action extravaganza has been produced by Aditya Chopra and is set to release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on July 22, 2022.

“Sushmita Sen is the last person who checks out bank balances before she decides to fall in love with someone” – says Vikram Bhatt

A few days ago, businessman Lalit Modi took the internet by storm by announcing actor Sushmita Sen as his ‘better half’. He shared several pictures with the actress on his official social media accounts and announced that they are dating. But, Sushmita Sen has been getting trolled on the internet, being called a gold digger and the sexism is through the roof. The actor has found support in filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, who dated Sen in 1996 after shooting for her debut film Dastak.

“Sushmita Sen is the last person who checks out bank balances before she decides to fall in love with someone" - says Vikram Bhatt

Speaking to India Today, Vikram Bhatt said, “Sushmita is the last person who checks out bank balances before she decides to fall in love with someone. I was penniless. I was directing Ghulam, but I had no money. I will not forget that Sushmita was the person who first took me to the US, and she paid for my trip. I had no money. When we reached Los Angeles and there was a limousine, and I was surprised. She said that she wanted to make my entry in the US very special.”

He added, “I think making fun of other people’s life is entertainment. Someone’s tragedy is someone’s entertainment, that’s always there. When Kareena [Kapoor] married Saif [Ali Khan], even she was trolled. So, I think it goes with the territory, if you are a celebrity and if there is a decision of yours which seems funny to netizens, they start trolling.”

Vikram Bhatt also shared that even though he hasn’t been n touch with Sushmita Sen, he will stand up for her. “Look at her life, she has lived life on our own terms. If she wanted, she could have been the number one actress, but she never bowed down to any kind of industry. She never sucked up to anyone and she never became the actor’s girlfriend,” the filmmaker concluded.

After seeing the trolling on social media, Sushmita had taken to her Instagram on Sunday to call out people for slamming her and monetising her life. Sharing a picture in a black swimsuit from her Maldives vacation, Sushmita Sen wrote, “Perfectly centred in my being & my conscience…I love how nature merges all it’s creation to experience oneness…and just how divided we are, when we break that balance. It’s heartbreaking to see just how miserable & unhappy the world around us is becoming. The so called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies….the ignorant with their cheap & at times funny gossip. The friends I never had & the acquaintances I’ve never met….all sharing their grand opinions & deep knowledge of my life & character…monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!!”

She further wrote, “I dig deeper than Gold…and I’ve always (famously) preferred Diamonds! And yes I still buy them myself. I love the all heart support my well wishers & loved ones continue to extend. Please know, your Sush is ABSOLUTELY fine.. cause I’ve never lived on the transient borrowed light of approval & applause. I am the Sun….perfectly Centred in my being & my conscience!”
