Liger makers shelled out Rs. 25 cr to feature Mike Tyson in Vijay Deverakonda – Ananya Panday starrer

Former boxing champ Mike Tyson walked away with a staggering Rs. 20-25 crores for his inane cameo appearance in Liger. Enterprising filmmaker Puri Jagannadh thought he had hit a jackpot when he got Mike Tyson for Liger.

Liger makers shelled out Rs. 25 cr to feature Mike Tyson in Vijay Deverakonda – Ananya Panday starrer

Tyson who? No I am just kidding, mimicking Mr Tyson who in a recent podcast claimed he had no recollection of doing a ‘Bollywood’ film called Liger. Everyone who saw the film seconds Mr Tyson’s sentiment. Everyone who saw the film would like to forget the brackish taste it leaves in the mouth.

But the question to be asked is, how did he get into Liger in the first place? What box office sense does that make? Whose idea was it?

A bit of probing reveals that Karan Johar who co-produced the Hindi version of Liger was totally opposed to the idea of inviting Tyson. Vijay Deverakonda too was not kicked by the idea. It was entirely Puri’s idea.

“Puri had a thing about working with Tyson. Otherwise today’s audience knows nothing about Tyson. He was fixated on the idea of anyhow getting Tyson into the film, no matter what the cost,” a source close to the project reveals.

Anupam Kher defends Yash Raj Films after Anurag Kashyap blames Aditya Chopra for the recent YRF film debacle

Anupam Kher, who recently featured in films like The Kashmir Files and Karthikeya 2, came in support of head of Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra after filmmaker Anurag Kashyap blamed him for the failure of their recent releases. The filmmaker had commented on how the director-producer sits in an office and keeps directing his employees on every small matter. Coming to his defense, Anupam maintained that it was not easy to build and maintain an empire like YRF films.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, as the veteran actor was seen promoting Karthikeya 2 with the star cast, Anupam Kher said, “I am very, very proud of Aditya Chopra. Yash ji’s family is like my own family. To have built an empire like Yash Raj Films is not an easy thing. It’s easy for people to make comments. I don’t again want to pass judgement on what he has said. He is not the ultimate authority on human behaviour.”

His comment comes after Anurag Kashyap spoke about the recent string of flops given by Yash Raj Films. Their last 3 releases which featured superstars like Ranveer Singh in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Akshay Kumar in Samrat Prithviraj, and Ranbir Kapoor – Sanjay Dutt in Shamshera turned out to be box office disasters. Addressing the issue, the filmmaker had told Galatta Plus, “You have one person sitting in a cave, who doesn’t know the world outside, dictating how everybody should be making their films and telling them what to do. If Aditya Chopra has hired a bunch of people, he needs to empower them and not dictate them, not control the casting, not control everything. Sit in your office, hire good people if you trust them, and let them make their film – which is the mistake he makes! He doesn’t let them be.”

Anupam Kher has been a part of some of the biggest YRF films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Darr, Lamhe, among others.

Chris Rock refuses offer from The Academy to host 2023 Oscars after infamous slapgate involving Will Smith

Actor-comedian Chris Rock was approached to host next year’s Academy Awards but he reportedly declined after the infamous slapgate involving Will Smith and him at the 2022 show.

Chris Rock refuses offer from The Academy to host 2023 Oscars after infamous slapgate involving Will Smith

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during his Sunday night show at the Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix, the comedian shared that the Academy asked him to return to host for a third time (the comedian hosted the awards show twice, in 2005 and 2016) after the infamous moment at the 2022 ceremony in which Will Smith slapped Rock onstage after Rock poked a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

During his standup routine, Rock said returning to the Oscars would have been like going back to the scene of a crime, referencing it to OJ Simpson, who was alleged to have killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson. He added that he was offered a Super Bowl commercial as well, but refused that too. Per the report, the comedian’s sold-out crowd was eager to hear his take on the incident, with a fan yelling out, “Talk about it!”

Chris Rock continued, referencing Smith’s performance as boxer Muhammed Ali in the 2001 drama Ali, for which Smith earned his first Oscar nomination. “He’s bigger than me,” Rock said. “The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.” In April, the Academy’s board of governors banned Smith from returning to the Oscars or attending any other Academy events for the next 10 years, a week after Smith publicly resigned from the Academy. Months after the incident, the actor apologized to Rock in a video.

Earlier this month, newly appointed Academy CEO Bill Kramer noted that they are “committed to having a host on the show this year” and “already looking at some key partners on that.” He also emphasized that the slap will not be a topic of discussion or jokes at the next ceremony. “We want to move forward and to have an Oscars that celebrates cinema. That’s our focus right now,” he said.

“There are a lot of worlds and dynamic characters that will hopefully make for a really immersive and engaging cinematic experience. Scope-wise, it will hopefully feel like you’re watching something very cinematic and something that will feel like it should be either watched on a projector or a wall or a bigger screen if you’re able to. It is just something that feels like you’re actually on the screen with us, that is what is manifested on screen,” shared Markella.

We went through a scale academy where we were taught about the technicalities of scale work, and it is a major part of the story we tell. Sometimes you know even though it looks like we are acting with each other, we may not be, it may be scale double or it might be them on a ledge, and that is quite surprising. We hope that the illusion will be fantastic.”

Set thousands of years ahead of J.R.R Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, the series revolves around significant events in Middle-earth Second Age.
