Emergency star Kangana Ranaut sinks into the role of Indira Gandhi; says, ‘it remains like a scar on the soul’

Lately, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is making headlines as she is shooting for her upcoming film titled Emergency. From sharing the first-look poster of her co-stars to giving a peek into the behind-the-scene of the biopic, Ranaut is keeping her fans updated. Making another addition to her Emergency shooting diary, Kangana shared another post on Saturday.

However, the Panga actress’s caption left many from her Instagram fam lost in deep thought as she talked about the identity crisis while playing former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. While the first picture captured Ranaut as Indira Gandhi on the sets of Emergency, the second shot is a portrait of the actress. “Today is a break day, I don’t call it a break I call it a pause day”, wrote Kangana.

The Simran actress further added, “On such a blank beat you wonder where did you lose yourself….. You dissolve in the character and find that nothing of you is left in you. You see your own pictures like a stranger and wonder will you ever be the same ….. the truth is you can never go back to being the same person, once a character has happened to you it remains like a scar on the soul, like the darkness of the night, like the glow of the moon, like a realisation you can’t own, like a million shinning suns, like the dizzying heights of the mountains and suffocating depths of the sea….. a character will remain regardless of you”.

Sharing the same image on the story section, the 35-year-old actress gave it a hashtag that read, ‘identity crisis’. The film, as the title suggests, is based on the emergency period in India between 1975-1977 announced by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Anushka Sharma misses hubby Virat Kohli; says, ‘World seems better even in bio-bubble with him’

Though it’s been a while since Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma graced the silver screen, her social media keeps her fans entertained and updated. Lately, the actress is leaving no opportunity to express her affection for her cricketer husband, Virat Kohli. Making another addition to her PDA posts for Virat, Anushka shared a never-seen-before image on Saturday.

For the unversed, Sharma is currently shooting a schedule of her upcoming film Chakda Xpress in London. Meanwhile, Kohli is all set to join his team in Mohali to play 3 T20Is vs Australia followed by limited-overs series vs South Africa. However, before leaving for India, the former captain of the Indian cricket team visited his wife Anushka and daughter Vamika in London.

On the same note, the Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi actress shared a heartfelt note for Kohli. In the photo, Virushka is seen flashing an ear-to-ear smile at a picturesque destination. Whereas, the note in the caption read, “The world seems brighter, exciting, more fun and overall just much much better in places as beautiful as these or even when cooped up in a hotel bio-bubble with this person #MissingHubby too much post”.

Many from the Zero actress’s 60.1M Instagram fam flooded the comments section with red heart emoticons. Meanwhile, Anushka’s co-stars and peers from showbiz also reacted to the post, including Zareen Khan, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Wahi, Ranveer Singh, Preity Zinta, and Karan Wahi. Virat Kohli was also quick to drop emoticons to register his reaction to the post.

On the professional front, Virat is currently in Mohali, Punjab as he is prepping for the first T20I match while, as mentioned earlier, Anushka is shooting for the Jhulan Goswami biopic.

Cameo Kings: Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan win over audiences with guest appearances

Welcome the new cameo kings: Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan. Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Jacqueline Fernandez have had the distinction of doing the maximum cameos / guest roles / special / friendly appearances in the past. The nomenclature varies as per the importance or length of the roles. Of late, it has also been the custom to just mention “Thanks, XYZ” or “Eternally grateful to Shah Rukh Khan” as in Brahmastra when stars do cameos. Yes, we will stick to the term “cameo” to describe any such non-leading role.

But, perhaps, never have superstars (or any star for that matter) done a hat-trick of cameos within five months in Ajay Devgn’s (November 2021 to March 2022) and SRK at the rate of a cameo a month between July and now! The nearest we had was Kareena Kapoor Khan doing two ‘song’ cameos in 2012—in Rowdy Rathore and Dabangg 2. But she also did four lead roles that year.

Significantly, none of these two actors have had a leading role release anywhere between the films featuring them in cameos!

Let us see why the two actors chose to do these roles.

Ajay Devgn:

Sooryavanshi: Rohit Shetty announced his own cop universe (India’s first) with Simmba in 2018, wherein Ajay, for the third time, portrayed Singham, his character in the franchise of that name, and Akshay Kumar was introduced in a fleeting cameo as ATS officer Sooryavanshi. Naturally, when Sooryavanshi was finally made and released on November 5, 2021, it featured both Ajay as Singham and Ranveer as Simmba in very entertaining appearances as the fiery cops. Of all these six cameos, this is the only character that will be seen again!

RRR: An intense freedom fighter—this role was probably written and designed by S.S. Rajamouli as a reciprocal gesture to Ajay Devgn for marketing and promoting the filmmaker’s 2012 masterpiece, Makkhi, in its dubbed Hindi version. The dour, gritty character was right up Ajay’s street though.

Gangubai Kathiawadi: Coincidentally also co-starring Alia Bhatt (though not romantically) like RRR, it had Ajay playing the Muslim don Rahim Lala who supports Gangubai like a brother. Sanjay Leela Bhansali brought back Ajay into his movie after his unforgettable turn in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), the filmmaker’s first hit.

Shah Rukh Khan:

Rocketry: This was actor R. Madhavan’s debut as a director—a biopic on the living legend, ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan. The story focused on the scientist and the controversial part of his life when he was unjustly framed in an espionage case. Madhavan directed the film in flashback mode, with Shah Rukh Khan playing himself, as the celebrity who interviews the scientist on how his life was affected by the allegations. Suriya did the corresponding cameo in the Tamil version.

Laal Singh Chaddha: In this misfired Aamir Khan production, Shah Rukh again played himself. VFX and Prosthetics showed a young Shah Rukh interacting with Laal Singh in their youth, when SRK was also a struggling actor. Shah Rukh did the role as a gesture to Aamir, with whom he had shared cameos and a scene in Pehla Nasha (1993) at an early stage in their careers. Remarkably, that film had been directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, who also directed them in independent leads later.

Brahmastra: We use the word ‘remarkably’ as Ayan Mukerji, the director of this film, was assistant director and co-screenplay writer with Ashutosh on Swades (2004), which starred Shah Rukh Khan as NASA scientist Mohan Bhargava. Mohan leaves America and returns to India finally. And in this film, he plays a rather elongated cameo as the same character, scientist Mohan Bhargava. Mohan is now a part of Brahmansh, the group protecting the world against evil forces. And this has made SRK fans demand a film that shows his journey from his character in that film to show how he become a Brahmansh warrior!

Brahmastra Box Office: Film has a stupendous jump on Saturday, all set to challenge The Kashmir Files to emerge as highest Bollywood grosser so far of 2022

In its lifetime, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files had netted Rs. 252.90 crores at the box office, hence emerging as the highest Bollywood grosser so far of 2022. The film is in fact surpassed only by the dubbed Hindi versions of RRR and KGF: Chapter 2. Both these films are south products and caught audience fancy. Now the manner in which Brahmastra is currently doing, it is set to find itself right at the top amongst Bollywood releases at least, what with Rs. 250 crores set to be comfortably crossed.

This is now sure to happen due to the stupendous jump that the Ayan Mukherji directed film has seen on Saturday, what with Rs. 16 crores* coming in. This is still better than the first day number of Kartik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs. 14.11 crores) and that film was a massive blockbuster too. So with Brahmastra doing more than that on its 9th day pretty much signifies that the film has been accepted well by the audiences and that too all over. In fact with its lifetime reaching Rs. 196 crores* already, the Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer has also gone past the entire lifetime of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs. 185 crores) and even matched Sooryavanshi (Rs. 196 crores).

Of course, Brahmastra is also the most expensive of the lot and hence ideally, the kind of numbers that it is generating is in any case a bare minimum expectation. Still, the times are such that survival is the key with just respectable numbers expected and no one is pondering too much about delivering a hit or a blockbuster. In such times with this Karan Johar film turning out to be a good hit, one can well expect Dharma Productions, Star Studios and other producers associated with Brahmastra to be glad indeed.

BREAKING: Promotional campaign of Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam 2 to commence on October 2 aka the ‘Drishyam Day’

On February 17, 2022, it was announced that Drishyam 2 has gone on floors and that Abhishek Pathak will be directing it. An on-the-set still featuring Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran was also released by the makers and it added to the excitement of the viewers as the first part had emerged as a critical and commercial success. With the release of the week just two months away, Bollywood Hungama has found out about an interesting development with regard to this film.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Director Abhishek Pathak and the producers of Drishyam 2 have decided that they’ll kick start the promotional campaign of the film from October 2. The date held a special significance in the first part due to which they felt that starting their campaign on this date is apt. Moreover, things fell into place for them as Drishyam 2 is scheduled to be released on November 18, that is, 45 days after October 2. Hence, everyone in the team unanimously agreed to begin the film’s promotional journey on the national holiday.”

An industry expert said, “This is a smart move. Viewers would lap it up as October 2 has now become synonymous with Drishyam. Now, on October 2, people don’t just forward messages about the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, but also remind their friends and loved ones that this was the day when Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn’s character in Drishyam) attended satsang and had pav bhaji with his family! As a result, the promotional campaign will get a fabulous reception when it’ll commence on October 2.”

Drishyam is the remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name. Besides Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran, it also starred Tabu, Ishita Dutta and Rajat Kapoor and was directed by the late Nishikant Kamat. It was the story of a good-natured semi-literate man who drew an elaborate and flawless plan when his daughter and wife accidentally killed a criminal, who also happened to be the son of a top police officer. As part of his plan, he created a full-proof alibi of being away at the satsang and making merry in Goa when the criminal son went missing.

Drishyam 2 is also based on the sequel of the same film, which was released directly on Amazon Prime in 2021. This time, Akshaye Khanna has also joined the star cast of the remake. Drishyam 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Krishan Kumar and Abhishek Pathak.
