Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra finally gets an OTT release date: Reports

After being in the pipeline for over seven years, Brahmastra hit the big screens last month. Although it received mixed reviews from critics, the film managed to create quite a stir at the box office. From the chemistry of real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to the mythological theme of the film, a lot of it managed to garner praise from the audience.  Now, the makers are planning on releasing the film on the OTT platform and the rights are reportedly acquired by Disney+ Hotstar. And now recent reports suggest that it will premiere on October 23.

While there has been no confirmation from the makers or the OTT platform, it is being said in the reports that the streaming platform considers the date to be apt considering that it also falls amid the Diwali festivities. The first day of Diwali starts on October 22 and the weekend is not expected to see any Bollywood or big-budget releases considering the arrival of the festival. However, an official update is awaited on the same.

Speaking of Brahmastra, the film stood strong in its third week and its overall total was pushed to Rs. 255.50 crores which also included collections across all languages with a little over Rs. 20 crores that came from the south versions, predominantly Telugu. The film also benefited a lot from National Cinemas Day which was celebrated last month when ticket prices were reduced to almost Rs. 75.

Besides Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. The film also had cameos from superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone who essayed some impactful characters in the fantasy drama. Readers would be aware that Brahmastra Part One Shiva is the first in the Brahmastra trilogy. Director Ayan Mukerji had revealed that the second installment will be titled Dev and rumours have it that Ranveer Singh will be essaying the character. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film hit the big screens on September 9.

Bhediya Trailer Launch: Varun Dhawan congratulates Kriti Sanon for Filmfare Awards but in a self-deprecating style; says, “jinko nahi mila unko kaise lagta hai’

Varun Dhawan has impressed everyone with the trailer of Bhediya. The film features him in a never-seen-before avatar of a werewolf. The actor also reunited with his Dilwale co-star Kriti Sanon for this creature comedy. During the trailer launch of the film, while talking about the achievements, the actor congratulated his co-star for her recent win at Filmfare Awards for Best Actress for her performance in Mimi, albeit in his self-deprecating style.

During the trailer launch, Varun Dhawan took the opportunity to congratulate Kriti Sanon on her recent win at the prestigious 67th Filmfare Awards saying, “She won the Filmfare Award for Mimi. That’s a great film. Jinn logon ko nahi mila hai unlogon kaise lagta hai!” added Varun. Interestingly, today marked the 10th work anniversary of Varun Dhawan who set the big screen on fire with his debut Student Of The Year way back in 2012.

Coming to Mimi, the film is an emotional drama with Kriti Sanon turning a surrogate for a foreign couple. Amid her pregnancy, the couple decides to abandon the baby as the doctor’s diagnosis states that the baby may be born with down syndrome. The film further showcases the challenges Mimi faces about being a mother.

Talking about Kriti Sanon, along with Bhediya, the actress has four other films in the pipeline which includes the Kartik Aaryan starrer Shehzada, a Hindi remake of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. The actress will also reunite with her co-star of Heropanti Tiger Shroff in Ganpath and she also will be seen in the never-seen-before avatar of Sita in the latest onscreen adaptation of Ramayana, Adipurush. The film features Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan as Ram and Raavan respectively.

Speaking about Bhediya, the film is a creature comedy directed by Amar Kaushik. Produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film is expected to hit the big screens on November 25.

Kiran Rao joins the jury panel of the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival

Kiran Rao has now joined the panel of jury All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF) 2022. Kiran has always been quite vocal about environmentally related issues and is known as an opinion maker through her intuitive cinema. Co-founder of Paani Foundation, which is active in the area of drought prevention and watershed management in the state of Maharashtra, Kiran is quite sensitive to issues affecting the environment and has always stood for causes pertaining to preservation, environment and nature and has been an active voice for the cause. This was the very reason for a perfect sync for her to be part of ALT EFF which is conceptualised by environmental entrepreneur, Kunal Khanna.

On becoming part of the jury, Kiran says, “I have had a wonderful time being part of the jury of All Living Things Environmental Film Festival. The festival has always been active in spreading awareness about the environment, and I am very happy to have been invited to participate. This year’s curation has some really excellent films which showcase a diverse range of environmental issues from all over the world. ALT EFF is an urgent initiative, and a fine example of how cinema can change our perspectives and habits, and help us preserve our natural world. I hope that people sign up and watch these films, to truly appreciate how we are one planet and all life is interconnected.”.

ALT EFF is one of India’s only film festivals focused on sustainability, nature and the environment. This year the festival will take place from Nov 17-27 with 55 films being showcased at the festival. Started in 2020 in a virtual format, this year the festival will be held in a hybrid format, with virtual as well as limited physical screenings. To make the festival accessible to all, the festival’s virtual leg is being offered to the audiences across for no charge at all, to help the message of the festival and the various filmmakers reach far and wide.

Box Office: Kantara (Hindi) is quite good, collects Rs. 1.88 cr on Day 4; Doctor G is ordinary

In a major turn of events, Kantara (Hindi) is collecting more than Doctor G on a daily basis. It was the Ayushmann Khurrana film, which had taken the lead over the weekend with collections that were double of the south dubbed release. However, cracks were visible on Monday itself and by the time Tuesday closed, it was the Rishab Shetty film, which ended up taking charge.

This can well be seen from the fact that on Tuesday, Kantara (Hindi) ended up collecting Rs. 1.88 crores, which is actually more than what the film had done on Tuesday when Rs. 1.75 crores had come in. This pretty much shows that momentum is on the side of the Kannada film since there is no holiday period to either boost the collections and still the footfalls are increasing. With Rs. 11.15 crores in its kitty so far, the collections now stand a real chance to go past the Rs. 15 crores mark before the first week is through.

On the other hand, Doctor G had collected Rs. 15.03 crores over the weekend but then post that the hold is just not there. On Tuesday, the film’s collections came down to merely Rs. 1.50 crores* which is lesser than Monday collections of Kantara (Hindi). In this case, the numbers are on a downslide and one can’t expect similar collections on Wednesday and Thursday. At best Rs. 2.50 crores more may come in which would be hardly an addition to the Rs. 18 crores* that the film has gathered so far. Disappointing.
