Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt scores over Ram Setu and Thank God at U.K and North America box office

The two new releases viz. the Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu and the Sidharth Malhotra – Ajay Devgn starrer Thank God hit screens yesterday on Diwali. In the overseas markets as well both releases saw a simultaneous release, and have been doing rather well despite eating in each other’s’ share of the market. However, when compared to previous releases, both Ram Setu and Thank God seem to have been outdone. In fact, the Pakistani film The Legend Of Maula Jatt which was released nearly two weeks ago has outdone both new releases at the U.K and North America box office.

At the UK box office, The Legend of Maula Jatt has managed to draw in a staggering USD 46,825 USD [Rs. 38.40 lakhs] from 56 screens on its thirteenth day running. Comparatively, both the Bollywood releases which hit screens yesterday have barely managed to collect the same amount together. In fact, Thank God managed to draw in USD 19,472 [Rs. 15.97 lakhs] from 83 screens while Ram Setu drew in USD 16,595 [Rs. 13.61 lakhs] from 95 screens on their opening day respectively.

Echoing a similar note, the North America box office featured the same outcome with The Legend of Maula Jatt eclipsing the collections of the new releases. Within this market, the Pakistani film drew in USD 56,586 [Rs. 46.45 lakhs] from 90 screens as compared to Thank God which drew in USD 40,358 [Rs. 33.13 lakhs] from 228 screens and Ram Setu which collected USD 48,330 [Rs. 39.67 lakhs] from 354 screens.

Surprisingly, despite the two new releases, featuring considerably higher screen counts than the Pakistani film in both markets, Thank God and Ram Setu both fail to surpass the collections of The Legend of Maula Jatt.

Tiger Shroff roped in for Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti’s next?

Tiger Shroff was last seen on the big screen in the film Heropanti 2. While the film did not perform as expected at the box office, Tiger quickly moved to his next. In fact, the actor has been busy working on Ganapath which is slated to hit screens in December this year. Well, now we hear that Tiger has been roped in for a new project that will be helmed by the Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti.

As per a report by Peeping Moon, the yet-untitled venture will be an emotional action drama, shot extensively in the UK. Directed by Jagan Shakti the venture is apparently being bankrolled by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment. Interestingly, this will be Bhagnani and Tiger’s second venture together post the Vikas Bahl directorial Ganapath. As for the new project, the makers of the film are said to be in talks with Tiger to arrange his dates, post which the final paperwork for the film will be processed. However, it remains unclear whether the film is the same one that was to feature Akshay Kumar but was later shelved, or whether this venture is a totally different film.

As for Tiger, the young actor is busy with his buddy film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, following which he will be seen in Rohit Dhawan’s Rambo remake.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui responds to NO buyers for his 7 films by OTT platforms; says “Mera kaam hai acting karna. Usske aage main kuch nahin janta”

The honeymoon is over. Major OTT platforms are no more willing and ready to pay astronomical sums to producers to buy feature films that they want to dump on digital without taking the theatre route. The OTT players have seen through the ruse. The hardest hit apparently, is Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has a slew of releases waiting to go on the digital domain.

But no buyers? Says Nawaz, “This is news to me. To be very honest, once I complete a film I don’t keep track of its journey. Mera kaam hai acting karna. Usske aage main kuch nahin janta.”

Nawaz also adds that to him the format of screening is not relevant. “Whether my films are seen on the big screen or at home, I am equally excited about it. There is no difference in my mind between the two experiences.”

What about the fact that the viewership at home is distracted and disrespectful? “Not true,” protests Nawaz. “Sacred Games is my most avidly watched work and the most loved performance of my career. And it’s on the digital platform Netflix. On the other hand, films like The Mountain Man and Raghav Raman where I worked really hard were hardly seen in movie theatres.”

Ram Setu Box Office: Film emerges as Akshay Kumar’s biggest opener of 2022

Ram Setu has taken the biggest opening for an Akshay Kumar starrer in 2022. In a year full of unpredictability when a lot of calculations and predictions have gone for a toss, Ram Setu has taken a start of Rs. 15.50 crores*. With this, it has also emerged as Akshay Kumar’s best of the year as it has surpassed Bachchhan Paandey opening day numbers of Rs. 13.25 crores.

Though the film has released on Diwali, it isn’t the kind of film which belongs to the kind of genre that usually opens big during this festive season, say Housefull 4. That film had taken a start of Rs. 19.08 crores back in 2019 but then it was a full-on comedy entertainer and very importantly, an offering from a hit franchise. In the case of Ram Setu, it is far more serious in appeal and also has a more class-appealing subject. Hence, it was actually nice to see numbers trickle in from certain mass centers as well, something that will help the film keep collecting this week.

From here, the film should sustain itself today and tomorrow because that will then allow the stage for further growth over the weekend. The Abhishek Sharma-directed film has seen decent to good reviews coming its way and the good part is that it hasn’t been disliked by anyone. In such a scenario, there is always a good possibility that a film will have sustained collections and that’s what Ram Setu would be aiming for as well.

The Kapoor Diwali bash was a lavish affair. Besides the entire group of Kapoor cousins, the party also saw some of their close friends from the industry. Sonam Kapoor, who is currently enjoying motherhood, was seen bonding and chilling with her friends, including designer Pernia Qureshi and stylist Tanya Ghavri. Arjun Kapoor, who arrived at the party with his girlfriend Malaika Arora, also posted a series of photos from the bash. On the other hand, Varun Dhawan also shared some of his party shenanigans.

B-town is bustling with parties and bashes with Diwali fever all around. The lavish Kapoor bash saw many of these celebs taking to social media to share glimpses of the party. Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, who seem to be Diwali party regulars, attended the Kapoor bash, hand-in-hand. And one person who managed to get clicked with them ‘finally’ was Arjun Kapoor. The actor posted this ‘special’ photo on his Instagram story and captioned it saying, “Finally have a picture with these 2 @vickykaushal09 @katrinakaif”.

Besides this, Arjun Kapoor also posted another photo where he turned ‘kishan-kanhaiya’ where he was surrounded by the pretty ladies of the bash. The photo included his cousins Sonam Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor along with his co-stars Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh. For the unversed, Arjun was paired alongside Rakul in the 2021 release Sardar Ka Grandson and on the other hand, he is currently doing a film with Bhumi Pednekar titled The Lady Killer.

Besides that, another one who shared about the bash was Varun Dhawan. While the actor is gearing up for his release Bhediya, he shared a photo on his Instagram page, referring to the same. Besides that, he also shared another picture where he was seen reuniting with his Main Tera Hero co-star Nargis Fakhri. The photo also featured Varun’s wife Natasha Dalal.

Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja hosted a Diwali bash at their residence and it is a special Diwali for the couple who welcomed their first child a few months ago.

Janhvi Kapoor recalls how Sridevi threatened Boney Kapoor to make him give up smoking: “she risked her own health”

Janhvi Kapoor recently celebrated Diwali with her family, recalled the memories of her mother Sridevi. She talked about how she turned vegetarian to make Boney Kapoor give up smoking despite the health hazards she would face. She also shared that his smoking habit would often lead to fights in the house. The actress even revealed that she and her younger sister Khushi Kapoor would constantly find different ways to destroy his cigarette pack to force him to quit but the filmmaker-producer refused to quit smoking.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Janhvi Kapoor reminisced about how the late Sridevi went to extreme lengths including threatening her father to leave smoking. The actress even became vegetarian which was considered to be harmful for her health because she was weak. Janhvi was quoted saying, “It was long ago I remember staying in our Juhu house, papa was smoking a lot. I think it was around the time of No Entry, Wanted, and every morning, me and Khushi would find new ways to destroy his cigarette packets. So, either we’d go and cut up his cigarettes or I’d open it and put toothpaste on it. Nothing worked, and Mom would also keep fighting with him. She became vegetarian. She said I won’t eat non-veg till you stop smoking and the doctors were like no you are too weak. You need to eat more, and she was like no. And Papa would beg her.”

Janhvi went on to add that it was her mother’s sudden demise that led to Boney Kapoor give up smoking. Speaking about how her demise had forced Boney to give up on the bad habit, Janhvi added, “Four-five years ago, he was just like she wanted me to stop. I couldn’t do it then. I’ll do it now,” Janhvi added. Readers would be aware that the nation woke up to the shocking news of Sridevi’s demise on February 24, 2018 after the actress reportedly drowned in the bathtub of one of the plush hotels in Dubai. Sridevi was in the city attending the wedding of Janhvi’s cousin Mohit Marwah.

Coming to Janhvi Kapoor, the actress is currently gearing up for the release of the survival drama Mili, which is a remake of the Malayalam film Helen.
