Jacqueline Fernandez’ lawyer says his client is innocent in response to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s handwritten letter

Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez is part of the ongoing Rs. 200 crore money laundering case related to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Recently, Sukesh wrote a letter claiming that Fernandez had no involvement in the alleged scam. Now, her lawyer Prashant Patil has responded to the letter and said that the actress is innocent and will fight for the dignity of his client.

Jacqueline Fernandez’ lawyer says his client is innocent in response to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s handwritten letter

“If it is written by Sukesh Chandrasekhar, then the allegations made by him need to be seriously investigated, independently and fairly by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The contents reveal that the investigation needs to take place on the facts revealed by him. His statement can be recorded under relevant provisions of the law and investigation can be carried out to find out the truth,” lawyer Prashant Patil told ETimes.

“The purpose of any investigation is to find out the truth. If certain facts are revealed by the accused, even that needs to be investigated by the agencies fairly. I repeat, that my client is innocent and she shall fight for her dignity by following the due process of law,” Prashant Patil said.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, Sukesh Chandrashekhar wrote a handwritten letter which was released by his lawyer which read, “It’s very, very unfortunate that Jacqueline has been made an accused in the PMLA (money laundering) case… We were in a relationship and if I have given her and her family gifts, what is their fault… She never asked me for anything except loving her and standing by her…”

Last month, Delhi High Court had granted her interim bail in the money laundering case. However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had opposed the bail plea in Delhi court stating that it was a bid to flee the country.

It was earlier reported that the conman had allegedly offered a motorcycle to Jacqueline Fernandez’ agent Prashant on his birthday but the latter declined the gift. The police earlier revealed that Sukesh had left the motorcycle along with the keys at Prashant’s residence, which was later seized by the police.  Previously, the actress was accused of having a connection with Sukesh Chandrashekhar and it was alleged that about Rs. 7.27 Crores of funds were seized from the actress in the name of proceeds of crime. The actress has been previously questioned thrice in the same case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to a report in News18 earlier, a fixed deposit worth Rs. 7.12 Crore was allegedly attached to Jacqueline Fernandez’ name. Infact, the ED estimated that Sukesh gifted gifts “worth Rs. 5.71 Crore to Jacqueline using the extortion money. It is also said that Sukesh gave funds close to $173,000 and around 27,000 Australian dollars to a few close members of Jacqueline’s family.”

In Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s statement recorded earlier under Section 50 of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act), Sukesh had revealed that he gave as many as 15 pairs of earrings, five Birkin bags, and other luxury goods from brands like Chanel and Gucci to the actress. The conman also claimed that he gifted Jacqueline Cartier bangles and rings and a bracelet by Tiffany & Co. in addition to Rolex watches. He also claimed that he had given Jacqueline jewellery worth Rs. 7 Crore and gifted her a horse named ‘Espuelah’.

In addition, Sukesh Chandrashekhar also extended a loan of $150,000 to Jacqueline Fernandez’ sister, who lives in the US. He allegedly also gave her a BMW X5 car and gifted Jacqueline’s parents a Maserati and her mother in Bahrain a Porsche. He reportedly also extended a loan of $50,000 to her brother in Australia.

In its chargesheet, the Delhi Police has accused Sukesh Chandrashekhar and 13 others of duping the wife of the former promoter of Ranbaxy to the tune of Rs. 200 Crore. Officials believe Sukesh Chandrashekhar extorted Rs. 200 Crore from the complainant by claiming that he would facilitate her husband’s release from prison.

Thank God Box Office Estimate Day 2: Collects Rs. 5.90 crores on Wednesday

Thank God is not trending as well as expected as after a below-par opening day, the collections dipped by around 25 percent on the second day. According to early estimates, Thank God has collected in the range of Rs. 5.75 to 6.35 crore, taking the two-day total to Rs 14.25 crore, which is below the mark for a Diwali release featuring Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet Singh.

Thank God Box Office Estimate Day 2: Collects Rs. 5.90 crores on Wednesday

After a low start, the hope was on Thank God to stay at the same level on the second day to have some shot at putting up some respectable numbers in the long run, but this drop has now curtailed all the chances of it succeeding until and unless there is a miraculous turn of events in the days to come.

A total of Rs. 75 crore will be a respectable result for Thank God given the results, and the trend in the next 2 days will clear what is in store for this Indra Kumar directorial. What’s surprising is also the fact that Thank God is not doing well in comedy-friendly markets like Gujarat and Rajasthan among others.

Ram Setu Box Office Estimate Day 2: DROPS by 30 percent on Wednesday; collects Rs. 11 crores

After an average start at the box office, Akshay Kumar’s action adventure, Ram Setu, has seen a dip in business on second day. According to early estimates, Ram Setu has collected in the range of Rs. 10.50 to 11.50 crores on its second day taking the two-day total collection to Rs. 26.25 crore. The drop is around 27 to 30 percent, depending on how strongly it has held in the mass belts.

Ram Setu Box Office Estimate Day 2: DROPS by 30 percent on Wednesday; collects Rs. 11 crores

For a film that hasn’t taken a bumper opening, the hold in collections during the Diwali period should have been better, but this drop around the 30 percent range, indicates that the film might not have a long run at the box office. It would be a big task for the film to hit a century in the long run, but the festive period can just about push the film closer to that number.

The collections of day one and day two are aided majorly by the holiday factor, and the real value without holidays might be lower by about 25 percent. The film is continuing to do well in the mass belts, but the metros and multiplexes are just not coming on board the film. It’s probably the subject and over-exposure factor that is driving the audience in the tier 1 center away from the film.

Thursday will be the acid test for Ram Setu as another drop is expected. It’s important for the film to curtail the drop percent under 20 percent to have a shot at a century number.

Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt scores over Ram Setu and Thank God at U.K and North America box office

The two new releases viz. the Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu and the Sidharth Malhotra – Ajay Devgn starrer Thank God hit screens yesterday on Diwali. In the overseas markets as well both releases saw a simultaneous release, and have been doing rather well despite eating in each other’s’ share of the market. However, when compared to previous releases, both Ram Setu and Thank God seem to have been outdone. In fact, the Pakistani film The Legend Of Maula Jatt which was released nearly two weeks ago has outdone both new releases at the U.K and North America box office.

Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt scores over Ram Setu and Thank God at U.K and North America box office

At the UK box office, The Legend of Maula Jatt has managed to draw in a staggering USD 46,825 USD [Rs. 38.40 lakhs] from 56 screens on its thirteenth day running. Comparatively, both the Bollywood releases which hit screens yesterday have barely managed to collect the same amount together. In fact, Thank God managed to draw in USD 19,472 [Rs. 15.97 lakhs] from 83 screens while Ram Setu drew in USD 16,595 [Rs. 13.61 lakhs] from 95 screens on their opening day respectively.

Echoing a similar note, the North America box office featured the same outcome with The Legend of Maula Jatt eclipsing the collections of the new releases. Within this market, the Pakistani film drew in USD 56,586 [Rs. 46.45 lakhs] from 90 screens as compared to Thank God which drew in USD 40,358 [Rs. 33.13 lakhs] from 228 screens and Ram Setu which collected USD 48,330 [Rs. 39.67 lakhs] from 354 screens.

Surprisingly, despite the two new releases, featuring considerably higher screen counts than the Pakistani film in both markets, Thank God and Ram Setu both fail to surpass the collections of The Legend of Maula Jatt.

Tiger Shroff roped in for Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti’s next?

Tiger Shroff was last seen on the big screen in the film Heropanti 2. While the film did not perform as expected at the box office, Tiger quickly moved to his next. In fact, the actor has been busy working on Ganapath which is slated to hit screens in December this year. Well, now we hear that Tiger has been roped in for a new project that will be helmed by the Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti.

As per a report by Peeping Moon, the yet-untitled venture will be an emotional action drama, shot extensively in the UK. Directed by Jagan Shakti the venture is apparently being bankrolled by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment. Interestingly, this will be Bhagnani and Tiger’s second venture together post the Vikas Bahl directorial Ganapath. As for the new project, the makers of the film are said to be in talks with Tiger to arrange his dates, post which the final paperwork for the film will be processed. However, it remains unclear whether the film is the same one that was to feature Akshay Kumar but was later shelved, or whether this venture is a totally different film.

As for Tiger, the young actor is busy with his buddy film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, following which he will be seen in Rohit Dhawan’s Rambo remake.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui responds to NO buyers for his 7 films by OTT platforms; says “Mera kaam hai acting karna. Usske aage main kuch nahin janta”

The honeymoon is over. Major OTT platforms are no more willing and ready to pay astronomical sums to producers to buy feature films that they want to dump on digital without taking the theatre route. The OTT players have seen through the ruse. The hardest hit apparently, is Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has a slew of releases waiting to go on the digital domain.

But no buyers? Says Nawaz, “This is news to me. To be very honest, once I complete a film I don’t keep track of its journey. Mera kaam hai acting karna. Usske aage main kuch nahin janta.”

Nawaz also adds that to him the format of screening is not relevant. “Whether my films are seen on the big screen or at home, I am equally excited about it. There is no difference in my mind between the two experiences.”

What about the fact that the viewership at home is distracted and disrespectful? “Not true,” protests Nawaz. “Sacred Games is my most avidly watched work and the most loved performance of my career. And it’s on the digital platform Netflix. On the other hand, films like The Mountain Man and Raghav Raman where I worked really hard were hardly seen in movie theatres.”
