Box Office: Uunchai trends very well over the weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever crosses 40 crores mark

Finally there is a Bollywood film in 2022 which started at a low number on Friday and then went on to grow truly well over the weekend. Unchai had its first day standing at 1.81 crores and while it seemed fine against the controlled release that it had got, it still needed to rise over the weekend to warrant greater count of shows and screens for itself. After all, there is a lot of competition around it with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on one side this week and then Drishyam 2 on the other side next week. Hence, growth needed to come for the film.

Box Office: Uunchai trends very well over the weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever crosses 40 crores mark

Thankfully, this has happened indeed with collections jumping further to Rs. 5 crores* on Sunday. The collections were quite good on Saturday as well when a major jump was seen and that’s how the game started changing for this Sooraj Barjatya directed film. Otherwise, for long most of the films have been playing only in Rs. 2-3 crores zone on Saturday and Sunday. With this healthy jump, all that’s required now is for Monday to be greater than Friday. As long as that turns out to be the case, there is stage and platform for the Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani starrer to flourish further over Rs 10.45 crores* that it has collected so far.

Meanwhile, the game is already set for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which has now crossed the 40 crores mark after its opening weekend. That’s quite good because a handful of films have managed that in entire 2022 and most of these have been event films. Here, the Marvel flick is a regular release even from Hollywood and hence for it to fetch these kind of numbers is indeed remarkable. The film saw one of the best days in theatres for any language film ever since the release of Brahmastra and brought in Rs 15.50 crores* which has helped push its total.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources

In one such exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Priyanka talked about the weirdest experiment she has tried on her hair. “I don’t think it was an experiment but my mother was always about natural products,” she shared. “And she used to put eggs and beer in her hair.”

“It was very weird when I did it. I was like ‘Eggs and beer? Is it not going to smell?’ But apparently it doesn’t and it was an amazing conditioner. And also, onion water, which I didn’t know. And I was like ‘Oh god, I’m going to smell of an onion all day. Might as well use Anomaly.”

Speaking of Anomaly, the brand was first launched in the United States during the pandemic and was recently introduced in India in partnership with Indian beauty e-commerce company Nykaa. The brand claims high-performance, environmentally-conscious, and clean formulas in the products.

While talking about Anomaly, PeeCee asserted, “It’s at an affordable price with superior formulas that you would have what you’re paying for to buy Anomaly and the formula and the experience of it, you would have paid at least four times to be able to get that with another brand. And that was the idea was to democratise beauty to everyone who can afford it.”

The ‘Desi Girl’ further added, “When I first went to the States, I would go into retail stores. All the good stuff was in double digits. I couldn’t afford double digits at that time in school. And then I sat in the chairs of the most incredible hair and makeup artists in the world who use the most luxurious products ever on my hair. So my standards were really high.”

Explaining how it inspired her in conceptualising her brand, the Bajirao Mastani actress said, “So when I started thinking about creating a brand, I couldn’t lower that standard. So when I spoke to Mesa about wanting to create a brand, it was always supposed to be under $10. The best formula is under $10. And that’s what we’re doing here is best formulas under 1000 rupees.”

Uunchai Box Office Estimate Day 2: Shows over 100% jump; collects Rs. 3.60 crores

After collecting Rs. 1.81 crores on the opening day, Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai has seen a big spike in collections on Saturday. The slice-of-life drama has gone up by 100 percent on its second day, thereby showing the biggest second-day growth for a Bollywood film in the post-pandemic world. According to early estimates, Uunchai has collected in the range of Rs. 3.55 crore to 3.70 crore on its second day.

Uunchai Box Office Estimate Day 2 Shows over 100% jump; collects Rs. 3.60 crores

The two-day total of Uunchai stands at Rs. 5.50 crores, and the movie is now set to hit a double-digit weekend. The jump in collections on Saturday is an encouraging trend and indicates that Uunchai will be a horse of the long race at the domestic box office. The makers have gone ahead with a limited release strategy, and this has worked in the favour as the demand for this film is on the rise by the hour. On Saturday, the film had around 200 shows more than the opening day, and on Sunday this is expected to rise further with 100 more shows.

The film is doing exceptional business in Mumbai as not a single ticket was available at most of the properties across the city for shows post 6 pm. Gujarat too is slowly owning up to the film and a big spike in the business is expected in Gujarat on Sunday. The film has seen a limited release in the mass belts, but there will be growth all across the board tomorrow as well.

The Sooraj Barjatya directorial has got the senior citizens on board in big numbers and one of the key reasons for its success is also the nominal ticket pricing, well within the reach of the elderly audience base. If it manages to score a Monday higher than Friday, it will well emerge as the much-needed sleeper hit of the year for the Hindi film industry.
