During a conversation, an audience member asked Ranbir Kapoor, “Now we have a platform like Saudi Arabia where we can jointly do films, I would love to sign you for a film. Would you be willing to work with the Pakistani team along with your team in Saudi Arabia?”

To which, the Brahmastra actor replied by saying that he would love to work on a project like this and congratulated the film industry of Pakistan for the success of The Legend of Maula Jatt. Ranbir said, “Of course sir. I think there are no boundaries for artistes, especially for arts. Many congratulations to the Pakistan film industry for (The Legend Of) Maula Jatt. It is one of the biggest hits that we have seen in the last few years. Of course, I would love to.”

Featuring Fawad as Maula Jatt and Mahira as Mukkho, the Punjabi-language film is a remake of the 1979 classic Maula Jatt. This marks Fawad and Mahira’s second stint after their 2014 drama, Humsafar. The film is from the times when the legends were written in soil with blood and a hero was born. Maula Jatt, a fierce prizefighter with a tortured past, seeks vengeance against his arch nemesis Noori Natt, the most feared warrior in the land of Punjab. Loyalties are challenged and families are torn apart in this epic tale of truth, honour and justice. The film is Pakistan’s biggest movie to date.

The film also features Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt, Humaima Malik as Daro, Faris Shafi as Mooda and Gohar Rasheed as Makha. It is produced by Ammara Hikmat’s Encyclomedia and Lashari Films. The film also stars Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan, and Saima Baloch. The movie was released in theatres on October 13 and is reportedly releasing in India on December 23.

On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will next star in Luv Ranjan’s yet-untitled film with Shraddha Kapoor, which is scheduled for Holi 2023 release. He also has Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal in 2023 as well.

Varun Dhawan is eager to do a south film: “I don’t know how, but I know it will happen”

With south cinema going pan-India, even Hindi film actors are keenly interested to be a part of a project of that scale. In recent times, actors like Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, and more have been featured in special roles in Telugu movies. Varun Dhawan is also one of them who wants to do a movie down south. He joined the roundtable conversation held by Galatta Plus where Karan Johar said that the Bhediya actor was “dying” to work in a south film. He said, “He will go to Hyderabad or Chennai and live there. He is dying… jumping.”

Varun Dhawan is eager to do a south film: “I don’t know how, but I know it will happen”

Tamil star Karthi, who was also one of the celebrities to join the roundtable conversation, said, “He (Varun) has already mentioned his interest and work there.”

Varun said, “We released Bhediya in Telugu as Thodelu. It was released by Geetha Arts. Even at the launch, they said you are more like a South Indian hero than a North Indian hero because of your energy level and the kind of films you do. I would love to do it because I have never seen a distinction. I grew up with my father (who) in the morning would show me Tamil and Telugu films.”

He added, “Given the opportunity, I would love to work there. There are brilliant filmmakers who are on my bucket list. I know it will happen. I don’t know how, but I know it will happen. It’s a plan.”

Varun pointed at Dulquer Salmaan, who was also part of the conversation and said, “He is a producer. Maybe, he can give it.” The Sita Ramam actor was laughing as he said, “I can’t afford you.”

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan was most recently seen in Bhediya with Kriti Sanon. The film released in theatres on November 25, 2022. He will next star in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal with Janhvi Kapoor.

Anurag Kashyap on the success of Sairat: “It destroyed Marathi cinema”

In the recent past, south films like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2 and Kantara have become pan-India hits. Ever since this started happening, a lot of movies have been publicized as pan-India films by their makers before the release. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has now said that if we become too obsessed with pan-India phenomenon, it will lead us nowhere.

In a roundtable conversation by Galatta Plus, Kashyap said, “With pan-India, what is happening right now is that everybody is trying to make a pan-India film. Success will be 5-10%. Films like Kantara and Pushpa give you courage to go out and tell your stories. But KGF 2, however big the success, when you try and emulate that and set a project up, that’s when you start heading towards disaster. That’s the bandwagon that Bollywood destroyed itself on. You have to find films that give you courage.”

Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat is the only Marathi film that became a pan-India success. But Kashyap believes that this actually “destroyed” Marathi cinema. “I was talking to Nagraj and I told him Sairat destroyed Marathi cinema; the success of Sairat. Because suddenly people realised there is a possibility to make so much money so they stopped making those films (which they were making earlier). Everybody wanted to emulate Sairat,” he added.

On the work front, Anurag had one release this year in the form of the Taapsee Pannu-starrer thriller Dobaaraa.

South Korean band SEVENTEEN’s agency PLEDIS Entertainment has released a statement addressing the invasion of the band members’ privacy. On December 8, the agency released another statement regarding the invasion of SEVENTEEN’s privacy.

The agency wrote in the statement, “Despite the release of previous notices, we are still witnessing continuous unauthorized entering into artists’ private spaces other than venues officially announced as SEVENTEEN’s official activity (living spaces, hotels, hair and make-up shops etc.) and invasion of artists’ privacy within the airport’s security zones.”

The statement continued, “There have been severe cases of invasion of privacy especially during the recent tour, such as waiting at the artists’ hotel, trying to break and enter the hotel room, coming excessively close to the artist and attempting to make conversation during their travel within the airport security zones including inside the aircrafts.”

“Such repeated actions are inflicting mental pain on the artists. Not only those engaging in such behaviors (will) be perpetually blacklisted from participating in all fan activities related to SEVENTEEN without a prior warning, but our company will also take necessary legal actions against them using the evidence we have collected through CCTV footage and monitoring initiatives.”

Concluding the statement, the agency wrote, “We will continue to strive to create a healthy fan culture and protect the safety and rights of our artists. We promise that we will take the strongest measures possible to any actions that violate their rights.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, SEVENTEEN made their return to the concert stage in June this year with their “BE THE SUN” world tour. After 19 shows in North America and Southeast Asia, the performance powerhouse wrapped up the Japanese leg of their world tour earlier in December.
