Tovino Thomas celebrates Minnal Murali director Basil Joseph’s win as Best Director at Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022, see photos

Malayalam filmmaker Basil Joseph, who helmed last year’s hit Minnal Murali starring Tovino Thomas, recently had a winning moment when he bagged the Best Director Award at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022. The 32-year-old director said he felt proud to be a part of the Malayalam film industry. He also said that he was proud to represent India on the international stage.

“I feel overwhelmed and honoured to be declared as the best director among 16 countries at the Asian Academy Awards 2022. Today, I feel prouder than ever to be a part of the Malayalam movie industry and to represent India on this stage,” Joseph wrote on Twitter, and shared a photo holding the trophy. Basil Joseph thanked the team of Netflix and the entire cast and crew of the film for being his big support system. The filmmaker then shared a video from the winning moment.

Following his win, Minnal Murali team celebrated his win. His leading man Tovino Thomas shared pictures from the cake-cutting ceremony. “As a friend, as an actor who worked with him, and as a co-actor, I’m extremely happy and proud of Basil Joseph’s immense growth,” wrote Tovino Thomas in his post. “A serious post about @ibasiljoseph on my timeline seems dramatic. But let it be.”

Set in the ’90s, the film unfolds the tale of an ordinary man who becomes a superhuman after being struck by lightning. Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan, and Aju Varghese were seen in pivotal roles in Minnal Murali.

Amidst all the fan wishes and love for Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s daughter Raha, Neetu Kapoor has been in talks for her on-set camaraderie with Sunny Kaushal in their upcoming feature film Letters to Mr Khanna by Lionsgate India Studios.

Here is a sneak peek into Neetu Kapoor’s look in the much-awaited film – Letters to Mr Khanna. The 70’s icon is seen getting ready to play ‘mother’ to her on-screen son, Sunny Kaushal. With her simple yet stunning ‘mom’ look, the actor has once again kept the glam quotient on with much experimentation with her hair-do.

This coming-of-age story will capture the beautiful and relatable relationship between a mother and her son. Using comedy as its main premise, the film delves into the integral fabric of families, communication, and memories, as well as their role in forcing us to grow up. Directed by Milind Dhaimade, the film will release in 2023.

Kamal Haasan reviews Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara; says ‘more people are thinking differently in Karnataka’

Following the massive success at the box office, Kantara continues to receive positive responses from the masses. The film arrived on Netflix in Hindi on December 9 and on Prime Video in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil on November 24. The film has been much needed positive boost in terms of bringing the Kannada industry to the spotlight after the K.G.F franchise. As the film continues to receive love from all across, veteran actor Kamal Haasan said recently that the film blew his mind.

Sharing his review of Kantara, Kamal Haasan said in an interview with Film Companion, “Kantara is a great example. I am happy because I also belong to the Kannada film industry. So, I think the clouds have parted and more and more people are thinking differently in Karnataka, the land which gave Vamsa Vriksha, Ondanondu Kaladalli and Kaadu, films like that. Those days are returning, that’s what I feel.”

Rishab Shetty shared the video clip on his Instagram and wrote, “Thank you, sir.”

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film stars Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, and Kishore Kumar G in pivotal roles. Kantara is about a human and nature conflict where Shiva is a rebel who defends his village and nature. Death leads to war between villagers and evil forces. Will he be able to regain peace in the village? The film will also be available in English and the English- dubbed version will stream on Netflix from January 2023 onwards.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan was last seen in Vikram alongside Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi. The film became a blockbuster. Reportedly, the actor is set to reunite with Mani Ratnam for a film after 35 years. It is slated to release in the theatres in 2024. He also has Shankar’s Indian 2.
