EXCLUSIVE: Cirkus director Rohit Shetty reveals Ajay Devgn never hears the script; recalls Singham narration: ‘We completed the narration at 2 in the morning for a 7 am shoot’

He told Bollywood Hungama, “It took me like a second. I remember it was in the middle of the afternoon, middle of the lockdown, I got a call while I was on the treadmill. I answered the phone and he asked, ‘Achha sun ek picture, karega kya’. And my response was, ‘Haan boss karenge’. It took me 3 seconds.”

Rohit Shetty has now revealed that just like Ranveer, even Ajay Devgn, who has been a longtime collaborator of Shetty, doesn’t read scripts anymore as he has trust in Shetty’s vision. Recalling their project Singham and how fast Devgn agreed for the role, he said, “I think it’s the same with Ajay sir after one or two films. I think Singham script, the first Singham; he heard the script and we had a 7 am shift in Goa. He came from London at 10 in the night. He first did his haircut for the cop role, and did his dress trial. Around 10:30, 11 or 12 something we started the narration, and we completed the narration at 2 in the morning for a 7 am shoot. At 2:30 am, he came to know what the film is. After Golmaal, he has never heard the script.”

Cirkus is based on William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, which inspired the Gulzar cult comedy, Angoor and is set in the 1960s’. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Johny Lever, Siddharth Jadhav, Tiku Talsania, Sanjay Mishra, Vijay Patkar, Ashwini Kalsekar, Mukesh Tiwari, Vrajesh Hirjee, Brijendra Kala among others. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Cirkus released on December 23, 2022.

Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty will reunite for Singham Again. The film also stars Deepika Padukone, who has previously worked with Shetty on Chennai Express.

As per a report in NDTV, the post-mortem was conducted at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital early on Sunday morning. A team of 4-5 doctors were present for the autopsy. Her mortal remains were handed over to the family at 11 am. The police said that there were marks of injury on her body. The report states that she “died due to asphyxiation.”

Tunisha’s mother has filed a complaint against Ali Baba Dastaan-e-Kabul co-actor Sheezan Khan for alleged abetment to suicide. The actor has been reportedly arrested. It is being reported that the two actors were in a relationship and that they had broken up 15 days ago. The late actress was allegedly under stress and is speculated that this drove her to the edge.

While the investigation is underway, a senior police official said in a statement on Saturday, “There is a Ramdev Studio in Naigaon where the shoot was on. Then there was a break between the shots when this actress went to the bathroom and then she hung herself there. People on the sets rushed her to the hospital where she was declared ‘brought dead’. It is primary information. Our team is on the spot and they are investigating. We will take everyone’s statement.”

DCP Chandrakant Jadhav spoke to the media and said that the death is under investigation. “Tunisha Sharma, who was working on the sets of Alibaba Dastaan E Kabul has died by suicide. She hanged herself. Her mother has filed a complaint against Sheezan (Khan) for abetment to suicide. Sheezan worked with her in the show as Alibaba,” he said. There have also been reports that she was pregnant. “There is no report on this,” said the cop to the media, as per Times Of India.

Waliv Police is questioning everyone who was present on the sets on Saturday. The actress reportedly did not leave any suicide note. Police will conduct the investigation from both murder and suicide angles.

Tunisha Sharma was also a child actress earlier. She played the role of the young Katrina Kaif in Fitoor.

Asha Parekh opens up on ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy: “We are losing our minds”

Earlier this month, the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan got embroiled in controversy because of the skimpy outfits worn by the actress. On top of that, her orange-coloured bikini became a bigger target as it allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of a section of the Hindus.

Ever since, quite a few people from the Bollywood industry have come out in support of the film. The latest to join the list is the veteran actress Asha Parekh.

She minced no words while sharing her take on the matter in a chat with Aaj Tak. “This is very wrong,” she said. “It’s just a film, after all, whose aim is to entertain people. Now you want to ban the film just because an actress is wearing orange? This doesn’t look good. Our industry slowly seems to be dying. Films are anyways not doing well and things are already not good. On top of that, there are calls for boycott and ban. If films continue to flop, how will more films be made? The industry itself will end if this continues.”

Asha Parekh is specifically upset about the colour of Deepika’s outfit turning out to be controversial. “The uproar wasn’t about the bikini, but its colour. I feel we are losing our minds. We are becoming narrow-minded, which is wrong. Bollywood has always been a soft target,” she added.

Earlier this week, Honey Singh had come out in support of Pathaan while lyricist Manoj Muntashir claimed that the makers of the film have hurt the religious sentiments through this song.

EXCLUSIVE: Cirkus actor Varun Sharma on working with Siddharth Jadhav; says, “He is mad with his infectious energy”

Varun Sharma revealed one of his personal favourite scenes from Cirkus during an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama. Without giving away spoilers, he said, “There is a sequence in the film that comes in the first half, which does not have much dialogue but has a lot of actions, reactions and is much similar to that in Golmaal 3 wherein there were not many dialogues but was majorly based just on actions which made it one of my personal favourite scenes of the film”. He also acknowledged how that particular scene of Golmaal 3 had received a lot of awards.

Talking about his experience further, Varun shared, “The set-up of that particular scene was inside a house. There was Ranveer Bhai along with Siddarth Jadhav, who is absolutely immensely talented (and) mad with his infectious energy and I don’t know how to explain the exact feeling”.

Sharing views on Siddarth Jhadav, Ranveer Singh, who was also a part of the interview, added, “It was that day (that) I knew I am working with the masters of comedy. The scene design, the treatment, the moments that came out of that set up; it was my first time approaching a pure slapstick comedy scene.”

Taking the conversation ahead, Varun added, “The scene was shot, we saw the rehearsals; even after that when we were heading back towards the van at the end of the day, we were asking Siddarth to do the same scene again. We were flipping on that act again and again and it was an absolute delight to watch him.”

Directed by Rohit Shetty, Cirkus will release in cinemas on December 23.
