Sidharth Malhotra on train action scene in Mission Majnu being inspired by Sholay: ‘I could ape my idol, Amitabh Bachchan’

Netflix dropped the trailer of the espionage-thriller-drama, Mission Majnu on Monday. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna, the film will take you through a rollercoaster of emotions including love, sacrifice, betrayal and honour. In the film, the actor takes on the role of an Indian spy who goes undercover in Pakistan.

Citing the example of Sholay starring Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan, Sidharth Malhotra told the reporters that he was elated to be a part of the film. In the trailer, he also gets to perform an action scene on the trailer just like Sholay. “The train scene is something we’re pretty excited about as a team. It’s the first time I’ve done an action scene on a train. So, I loved it. It adds to the thrill of the film. We’re hopefully true to the genre and I hope people love it. I could ape my idol, Mr Bachchan (from Sholay).”

 Speaking about the film, the actor further said, “Mission Majnu isn’t entirely an action film, but we do have sequences that are extremely thrilling. It’s a spy thriller first, but our producers, director, and writers tried to keep it a little authentic in the real world, where spies don’t come out all guns blazing. This isn’t James Bond, but there are certain situations in the film where he has to resort to certain action sequences.”

Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Rashmika Mandanna, Parmeet Sethi, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Mir Sarwar, Mission Majnu is arriving on Netflix on January 20, 2023.

Pathaan Trailer: Ram Charan and Vijay drop Telugu and Tamil versions of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, send their best wishes

Pathaan is coming to the theatres near you! Following high anticipation, Yash Raj Films unveiled the action-packed trailer of the film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. It boasts of action, patriotism, romance and more. Helmed by Siddharth Anand, the film will release in Tamil and Telugu too. For the same, Thalapathy Vijay released the Tamil version of the trailer and Ram Charan did the same for the Telugu version.

With Pathaan being dubbed in Tamil, superstar Vijay unveiled the Tamil trailer of Pathaan today. Even Vijay is feeling the buzz as he said that he is looking forward to seeing SRK in never-seen-before action sequences that have been attempted and shot for the first time in Indian cinema! Sharing the Tamil trailer, Vijay took to Twitter and wrote, “Wishing @iamsrk sir and the team all the best for #Pathaan.”

RRR star Ram Charan dropped the Telugu version of the trailer and wrote, “Wishing the whole team of #Pathaan all the very best! @iamsrk Sir looking fwd to seeing you in action sequences like never before! #PathaanTrailer.”

In April 2022, Shah Rukh Khan had shared the Hindi trailer of Thalapathy Vijay’s film Beast. “Sitting with@Atlee_dir who is as big a fan of @actorvijay as I am. Wishing the best for beast to the whole team…trailer looks meaner…. Leaner… stronger!!,” he wrote.

In September 2022, while shooting for Atlee Kumar’s Jawan in Chennai, Vijay and SRK met each other. The director had shared a photo which took the internet by storm. “What more can I ask on my bday , the best bday ever wit my pillars. My dear @iamsrk sir & ennoda annae ennoda thalapathy @actorvijay.”

Back in June 2022, Shah Rukh Khan revealed why he wanted to do Pathaan. “When we started shooting Pathaan, it was a lot of fun. It is an action film with wonderful co-actors Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Ashutosh Rana among others,” he explained, “It is the kind of film I wanted to do for 30 years. I always thought of myself as somebody who can do some cool action stuff. So, I think my impression about Pathaan is that it is what I really wanted to do when I first came to Mumbai, hopefully, I have achieved that in Pathaan as an actor.”

He admitted that he wanted to be an action hero in his 20s but is enjoying the process in his 50s too. “I enjoyed it. It is fun having to do action. It is a little late (referring to his age). At the age of 56, I am being macho and solid, trying to make it work. Siddharth and the whole action team have put in a lot of hard work. Hopefully, it will work,” he smiled.

“I remember Siddharth narrating a lot of films to me. Unfortunately, we could not find the right time to collaborate for years. He had this title called Pathaan with him. And he would tell me that, ‘Sir, maine film ready kar li hai.’ One fine day, when we could not work on the two scripts he narrated, he sent me a sweet message, which read, ‘I have this title. I have not been able to get a film with you. Now, please take the title and make a film whenever you want,’” Shah Rukh Khan said revealing that Siddharth Anand came back to him with a new script. “The film has had a long journey. And soon, you all will be able to see it,” he said.

Pathaan is set to release on January 25, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu! The film stars Ashutosh Rana and Dimple Kapadia and is directed by Siddharth Anand.

Kantara makes it for Oscar contention in Best Picture and Best Actor categories

After gaining accolades and mammoth box office success, the makers and fans of the Kannada film Kantara have another reason to rejoice and a big one at that. The Rishab Shetty movie has made it to the Oscar contention in two categories – Best Picture and Best Actor (Shetty). Hence, the film is now eligible for the Oscar members to cast a vote which will get it included in the main nominations.

The news was shared by the film’s producers Hombale Films on Twitter. The production house wrote, “We are overjoyed to share that Kantara has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the @shetty_rishab #Oscars #Kantara #HombaleFilms.”

The producers had sent Kantara to be considered for the Oscar nominations last year in December 2022. Vijay Kiragandur from Hombale Films had told Economic Times, “We have filed our application for Oscars 2023 for Kantara and have our fingers crossed. Kantara is such a deep narrative that we think it may attract a global audience as well.” He also revealed that they are considering a second film in the franchise.

For those not in the know, Kantara depicts a conflict between humans and nature where Shiva (Shetty), a village native, takes the side of his village and nature. The film also depicts the third avatar of Lord Vishnu called the Varaha Avatar. Apart from playing the lead actor, Shetty has also written and directed the film.

Box Office: Avatar: The Way of Water chases Avengers: End Game, Drishyam 2 in sight of Simmba – Sunday updates

This is going to be week of records for Hollywood biggie Avatar: The Way of Water and Bollywood blockbuster Drishyam 2. Both the films would be chasing records set by their counterpart blockbusters and that too in the post-pandemic era, which is a big deal in itself. While Avatar: The Way of Water is aiming to go past Avengers: End Game, Drishyam 2 is eyeing Simmba records.

Let’s talk about the James Cameron directed sci-fi action drama first. The film had yet another huge day with Sunday collections coming to Rs. 8 crores*. It’s excellent indeed as such kind of numbers are hard to come by for the biggest of the films in their second week and here it’s all happening in the fourth week. Now something like this can happen only in case of genuine blockbusters and Avatar: The Way of Water is one such huge film which has been doing excellent business globally. The film had collected Rs. 362 crores* so far and today, it should go past Avengers: End Game lifetime of Rs. 364 crores.

On the other hand Drishyam 2 had another excellent day as the collections nearly went past the Rs. 1 crore mark all over again. To think of it, this is eighth week in the running for the Ajay Devgn starrer and soon the film will also be available on OTT. Still, the footfalls are continuing to be quite good at the theatres where the film is running and that resulted in yet another growth in collections from Friday to Saturday and now Sunday. So far, the film’s haul stands at Rs. 238.66 crores and soon enough, it will go past the lifetime score of another huge success, Simmba [Rs. 240.31 crores].

Arjun Kapoor on Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan controversy: ‘We as artistes have to do what the film demands’

Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor, who is currently promoting his upcoming film Kuttey, has voiced his opinion on the ongoing controversies surrounding Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan. For unversed, the film has become a target of several outfits due to the saffron colour swimsuit worn by Deepika Padukone in the ‘Besharam Rang’ song. It created an uproar and CBFC has axed certain lyrics and scenes from the song too.

Talking about Pathaan, Arjun Kapoor told India Today, “I think the fact that we are discussing it will give undue advantage to it at this point. We have to trust our censor board and the central government as they operate together. I think everybody has a right to an opinion in a democracy, but we as artistes have to do what the film demands and have to stick to that authenticity. I don’t think we need to get caught up in a question that gives undue importance to things that create unnecessary banter and chatter.”

“Our job should always be to do what is needed for the film and then give the film to the people who can decide what offends them and what doesn’t. I think we have followed that for a long time. Every film that gets made has to follow a process, even if our film is no exception. We should just trust the process and the rules in a democracy,” he added.

On the work front, Pathaan is set to release in theatres on January 25, 2023.

Meanwhile, Kuttey is touted to be a caper that also has outstanding actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Tabu, Kumud Mishra and Radhika Madan in it. The film has been directed by debutant Aasmaan Bhardwaj, who is ace film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj’s son. It releases on January 13, 2023.
