EXCLUSIVE: Mission Majnu vs Chhatriwali; director of Sidharth Malhotra starrer Shantanu Bagchi speaks on the clash

This Friday, January 20, two of the most awaited Bollywood films have arrived on OTT, Mission Majnu and Chhatriwali. As both films have been released on different platforms but on the same day, the audience could be divided. Amid this, Mission Majnu’s director Shantanu Bagchi, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, commented on the same.

When asked about the clash, Shantanu said, “I feel we concentrate on all these things. But we should concentrate to tell a good story. If the story of both films is good, the audience will watch both people want to watch good films. And that’s there; the people want to relate to good stories. So if both the films are made well, with good stories, your audience will go to watch both of them. So I don’t believe that there will be a clash.”

He concluded his answer by saying, “A clash happens when one has to choose one over the other. And I wish all the best to Chhatriwali. It’s not that one film should work, all things should work. That’s a great thing, actually. So I don’t believe in this. I believe if it’s a good story, people will come up.”

Meanwhile, talking about Mission Majnu, Shantanu explained, “First of all, it’s a very original concept. True story and the film happens in a very realistic zone most of the time, okay. And we have shown how intelligently the agent operates. It is not like any other film that you have watched in this genre. Glamorised over glamorize spy. It’s very real. It is a wonderful story. It has deep emotional connections, it has under skin kind of tension, and a few of the action set pieces.”

As he went on to elaborate, Bagchi said, “But it’s not filled with only action sequences and no story. A very interesting one- the way this main protagonist goes about things, which you have never seen. So, giving the freshness, giving those wonderful efforts that have been put in by all the actors, technicians should resonate with people that much one can say.”

As the conversation progressed further, the Mission Majnu director also opened up about the Sidharth Malhotra starrer releasing on OTT instead of theatre. He said, “In today’s world, most people are watching OTT platforms. That’s the reality of our times. Number one. Number two is it is Netflix – the number one OTT platform in the world. Number three, it is getting a worldwide release in 190 countries. Looking at how audience across the globe is interested in Indian films is very apparent right now.”

To resonate his take, he further added, “How we watch Korean stuff; a lot of people across different countries watch Indian films, we all know that. So that is a fantastic thing to reach out to millions and millions of people across the planet.  I’m excited about it. And it’s not that it would have been a theatre release, it will be catering to a very small number of people. But in this case, the range is tremendous.”

Mahesh Bhatt reveals he did not undergo heart surgery; says, “Angioplasty is a bloodless common procedure”

On Friday morning we woke up to reports of the indefatigable Mahesh Bhatt having undergone heart surgery. But when I touched base with the Arth director here’s what he had to say, “It’s technically incorrect to call this procedure a surgery. A surgery is where they use the knife. Angioplasty is a bloodless common procedure. It takes half hour and a mandatory stay in the ICU and then one is discharged the next day.”

Bhatt Saab is all praise for the medical team which handled his bloodless surgical procedure. “I was in the hands of the best of best team of doctors at the H.N Reliance Hospital. The procedure was on January 16. I was home on January 18. I am alive and ‘kicking’ my friend. And I was working on my next book since 5 am when your message pinged.”

Bhatt Saab further added, “My procedure was planned for the Jan 16. It was during a routine body check-up that the doctors raised a ‘red flag’ and suggested that since I am in good health we must take a pre-emptive step and deal with this.”

The unwavering filmmaker says he went into the surgical procedure as a pre-emptive. “I had no symptoms which compelled me to take this self-initiated step. I am 74 and with age the ‘calcification’ of the arteries does take place. Let me leave you with this unchangeable truth. Ageing is not optional it’s inevitable.”

Priyanka Chopra breaks her silence on opting for surrogacy for Malti Marie: ‘I had medical complications, this was a necessary step’

Priyanka Chopra has made a mark for herself not simply in India but in Hollywood too. As she launched her first make-up collection with Max Factor, she became the first Indian to be featured on the cover of British Vogue. For the very first time, the actress has posed with her daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas for a shoot though her face is hidden.

Malti Marie was born to Nick Jonas and Priyanka in the January of last year but she was kept in NICU for 100 days before the couple to taken her home. In the interview with the magazine, the actress opened up on the premature birth of her daughter. “I was in the OR [operating room] when she came out. She was so small, smaller than my hand,” she said, adding, “I saw what the intensive-care nurses do. They do God’s work. Nick and I were both standing there as they intubated her. I don’t know how they even found what they needed [in her tiny body] to intubate her.”

Priyanka Chopra also spoke about how she opted for surrogacy. Talking to the magazine, she said, “I had medical complications, this was a necessary step, and I’m so grateful I was in a position where I could do this. Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months…You don’t know me, You don’t know what I’ve been through. And just because I don’t want to make my medical history, or my daughter’s, public doesn’t give you the right to make up whatever the reasons were.”

On the professional front, the 40-year-old actress has a bunch of projects in the pipeline; Love Again, Citadel (web series), and Ending Things to name a few. She also has a Farhan Akhtar film in her kitty, titled Jee Le Zaraa, which stars Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.

Pathaan Box Office Estimate Day 1: Film likely to open with Rs. 40+ cr. on Day 1; to emerge as Shah Rukh Khan’s all-time second highest opening day grosser

One of the most anticipated and keenly awaited releases is the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan. While the film has been making headlines since the release of its first track ‘Besharam Rang’ the audience is waiting with bated breath for its release. Now as January 25, draws near the makers of the Siddharth Anand directorial are pulling out all stops to promote it. In fact, going by the hype surrounding Pathaan, trade estimates say that the film will definitely open on a good note.

As per the data from advance bookings at limited screens/centers, Pathaan is likely to take an opening in the range of Rs. 39-41 cr. on Day 1 itself. Given the immense promotions and hype for Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screens after a long gap, exhibitors across the country have been predicting big numbers. Interestingly, despite the film being expected to rake in nearly Rs. 41 cr. on Day 1, when compared to Shah Rukh Khan’s previous releases, Pathaan will likely emerge as the actor’s all-time second-highest opening day grosser. In fact, going by the current trend, Pathaan will follow Shah Rukh Khan’s previous release Happy New Year which collected Rs. 44.97 cr. However, when compared to his other releases, Pathaan will rank above his films like Chennai Express, which collected Rs. 33.12 cr, Dilwale which collected Rs. 21 cr, and Raees which collected Rs. 20.42 cr.

Interestingly though, while Pathaan is unlikely to surpass the opening day collections of Happy New Year, the film, which enjoys an extended holiday weekend release, is likely to emerge as SRK’s highest opening weekend grosser.

As of now, Pathaan, which is slated to release on January 25, is being positioned as the first big money-spinner of 2023. Going by current trends the film is set to take a flying start at the box office.

Abhishek Kapoor to replace Hansal Mehta as director for Kartik Aaryan’s Captain India?

Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor, who is well known for identifying & bringing out an actor’s maximum potential, has been in the news for directing the Kartik Aaryan starrer Captain India after Hansal Mehta has turned his focus to some other projects. The film shares the story of an individual who goes beyond his call of duty & much more.

As per a report in Peeping Moon, the producers Ronnie Screwvala and Harman Baweja have allegedly put a halt on Captain India following the exit of Hansal Mehta. The filmmaker has multiple projects in his line-up due to which there is a scheduling conflict. As the filmmaker has been busy with his other projects, he has not been able to devote time to the Kartik Aaryan starrer. Following his discussions with the producers, he decided to step down from the role of director. Now, Abhishek Kapoor is in talks for Captain India and the producers think he might be the right choice.

The source reveals, “Abhishek Kapoor is still in talks & will step in as director for the Kartik Aaryan starrer Captain India. Kapoor fits the bill as a great choice to direct a film like this as he has always beautifully captured the true essence of human stories through films like Rock On, Kai Po Che, Kedarnath, and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. He might start working on the film after he wraps up the shoot for the Aaman-Ajay starrer he is currently working on.”

Some of the actors that were launched under his guidance were the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Sara Ali Khan and Farhan Akhtar among others. Abhishek Kapoor will also launch Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgan in his upcoming action adventure.

Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan has Shehzada and Satyaprem Ki Katha as his two releases in 2023. He also has an untitled project with Kabir Khan. He is also the lead in Aashiqui 3.

Alia Bhatt’s Heart Of Stone to release on THIS date

Alia Bhatt is all set to make her mark in Hollywood with her International debut movie Heart of Stone, that will stream on Netflix. Recently the OTT platform released a new teaser announcing release dates of major originals of Netflix scheduled for 2023. The teaser also included Alia Bhatt’s Heart of Stone which will premiere on August 11, 2023.

Starring Alia Bhatt alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, the film is slated to release on August 11, 2023 on Netflix. Alia has reportedly wrapped up the shooting for the film and is all set to release in August. Sharing the teaser on Instagram, Netflix captioned, “Get ready for Film-tastic year ahead! Here’s a sneak peek into the biggest Netflix original films premiering in 2023”.

Wrapping her part of the shoot, Alia had shared a post with the cast and crew of the film on her official social media account. Sharing the post, she wrote, “Heart of Stone – you have my wholeeeeeee heart. Kartik Aaryan leases Juhu apartment of Shahid Kapoor for monthly rent of Rs. 7.5 lakh

Shehzada actor Kartik Aaryan has leased an apartment in Praneta Building on Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai which is owned by actor, Shahid Kapoor. The stamp duty and 36-month lease registration were done by Kartik’s mother Mala Tiwari and Shahid’s wife Mira Rajput. He has paid a security deposit of Rs. 45 lakh. The lease mentioned a 7% escalation in the rent every year. The actor will pay up monthly rent of Rs. 7.5 lakh for the first 12 months followed by Rs. 8.2 lakh in the second year and Rs. 8.58 lakh in the third year.

As per reports acquired from Zapkey documents, Shahid Kapoor’s Juhu apartment is spread over 3,681 sq ft on the ground floor. The basement has two parking spaces in the compound.

Kartik Aaryan moved to Mumbai from Gwalior and was living as a paying guest in Versova’s 459 sq ft apartment in Rajkiran Co-op Housing Society, which he eventually purchased for Rs. 1.60 crore in 2019.

Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan is gearing up for his next release, Shehzada. The actor will star alongside Kriti Sanon and the film is helmed by Rohit Dhawan. It releases in cinemas on February 10, 2023.
