The actor had previously signed Takht and The Immortal Ashwatthama but the projects were put on the back burner. This is his third historical which he has signed and it will be helmed by Laxman Utekar, which whom Vicky is doing a romantic comedy. The actor will essay the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the upcoming project. Sambhaji Bhosale, also called Sambhaji Raje, was the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, and the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He ruled from 1681 to 1689. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and the writing is completed. The actor has agreed to do the film and an announcement will be made sometime later.
According to Peeping Moon outlet, the project will be produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. “Laxman Utekar, who has previously directed light-hearted films like Luka Chuppi and Mimi, has been planning to make a film on Sambhaji Raje (as Sambhaji is formally called) for a long time. It’s an ambitious passion project that he is finally set to bring to life, and he is leaving no stone unturned to make it as grand as possible. He has been working on this project for the past six months and has brought on board a team of top-notch creative and technical talents. The writing is finished, and Laxman and his team are currently neck-deep in pre-production. Dinesh Vijan is giving his full support and has sanctioned a huge budget to make this film a truly visual spectacle,” the source told the outlet.
With this project, it will be the sixth role for Vicky Kaushal which will be inspired by real life. He previously played real-life roles or roles inspired by true events in Raazi, Sanju, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Sardar Udham and the upcoming project SamBahadur.
On the work front, Vicky Kaushal will next star in Meghna Gulzar’s SamBahadur, has another project with Laxman Utekar starring alongside Sara Ali Khan, and a YRF film with Manushi Chhillar.

Till about 10 days back, the film was tracking at around Rs. 40 crores. However the manner in which the advance booking has been gathering pace, there is a very good possibility that the film will see its business exceed Rs. 42 cr at the box office.
That would be a big deal indeed since Wednesday is a working day and for Bollywood, the biggest non-holiday opening record was set by Brahmastra just a few months back when Rs. 37 crores were collected on the first day. The film had collected Rs. 37 crores but then it had released on Friday, which means it had a weekend advantage as evening and night shows were set to be quite good. Now Pathaan has an even bigger advantage since Republic Day falls the day after, which is a national holiday too, and hence this comfortably leads to Rs. 40 crores+ number.
Now the very factor which pitches the film from Rs. 40 crores into the Rs. 42 crores zone is the man called Shah Rukh Khan. Simply put, if Ranbir Kapoor can get such a huge total on a non-holiday then Shah Rukh Khan is simply in a league of his own. Yes, it’s now easy since the difference between Rs. 42 crores and Rs. 40 crores may seem less at Rs. 5 crores. However, as the stakes go higher up, the challenge is all the more to bridge that gap. This is what makes the whole advance booking factor to be so decisive in taking the film as far as the Rs. 42 crores mark.
There is one more factor that one needs to take into consideration. Brahmastra was rooted in Hindu mythology whereas the name Pathaan would entice a large segment of Muslim population as well. That would bring in further advantage, a huge one at that, for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer which will also have a much bigger penetration in the single screen arena. The stage is set for Pathaan to score and while anything between Rs. 40-42 crores would be a big deal too for the Sidharth Anand directed film, the eventual target would be Rs. 42 crores

A Dharmatic Entertainment Production, the movie is being produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, with Somen Mishra serving as the co-producer. Directed by Kannan Iyer and written jointly by Darab Farooqui and Kannan Iyer, the film is a thriller drama inspired by true events and will see Sara Ali Khan play the character of a valiant freedom fighter.
The just-launched, first-look video transports us to a bygone era where we see a tense, yet extremely focused, young girl expertly assembling a radio-like device in a dimly lit room. The camera gradually reveals that the young girl is none other than Sara Ali Khan in a never-seen-before, non-glamorous avatar. As she begins to speak on the radio, her voice is imbued with courage and determination; she shares the message of independence with the entire nation via her underground radio station, until she is interrupted by the incessant banging at the door.
A thriller-drama inspired by true events, Ae Watan Mere Watan, follows the intrepid journey of a college girl in Bombay who goes on to become a freedom fighter. This fictional tale is set against the backdrop of the Quit India Movement in 1942. It is a story about the courage, patriotism, sacrifice and resourcefulness of the youth of the nation.

This came in after protests against Pathaan in multiple states. During the BJP National Executive meeting in New Delhi, PM Modi said last week, “No one should make unnecessary comments that would overshadow the hard work we do.”
At the trailer launch of Selfiee on Sunday, Akshay Kumar was asked about PM Modi’s remarks. He said, “Positivity is always welcome. And if our Prime Minister is saying something like this. He is India’s biggest influencer. If he is saying something and if things change it’ll be great for the industry. And why not, things should change, because we go through so much.”
“We make films, go to the censor board, get them passed and then someone says something and phir gadbad ho jati hai (it becomes messy). But now that he’s said it, I think it’ll be better for us,” Akshay added.

During the promotions, the director spoke about working with Salman Khan and that he is working on something for the actor. He also stated that in his opinion, Salman has not been getting good scripts lately.
Talking about Salman Khan to Pinkvilla, the director said, “Salman is a very good actor, but it is my personal opinion that he is not getting good scripts. Like Bajrangi Bhaijaan was a good script and he did a wonderful job. He deserves that, he deserves a good script. I have something and I am working on it. Woh toh har script mein suit ho sakte hain. Meri family Salman bhakt hai (Salman is suited for every script. My family loves Salman).”
Salman Khan starred in Santoshi’s Andaz Apna Apna with Aamir Khan. He also appeared in cameo roles in two of his directorial, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.
Meanwhile, Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh will be clashing with Pathaan in theatres. The story of the film revolves around Mahatma Gandhi surviving Nathuram Godse’s attack and his decision to confront Nathuram Godse in prison. The film also stars Pawan Chopra, Deepak Antani, Sharad Singh, Anuj Saini, and Tanisha Santoshi in pivotal roles.
