Aditya Rawal on playing Nibras in Faraaz, “There is a risk in depicting religion you don’t belong to”

Aditya Rawal, son of the veteran actor Paresh Rawal, is playing the role of the terrorist Nibras in Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz. The film is a hostage drama about a terrorist taking a number of people hostage at an eatery. Aditya agreed that playing a character who belongs to another religion, in the case Islam, can be risky and one should ensure that the research is in place.

In a chat with Mid-Day, the young actor said, “There is a risk in depicting a religion that you don’t belong to. So, Hansal sir roped in the film’s associate writer, Ekhlaq Ahmed Khan, for workshops. [He taught us] how to recite suras, understand some facets of the religion, and how the same point can be interpreted in two ways, which is also what the film is about.”

Aditya credits Hansal Mehta for his mature handling of such a sensitive subject. “From our first meeting, Hansal sir and I sensed the direction we wanted to take for Nibras,” he said. “A lot of radicalised youngsters are vulnerable, lonely and get [influenced by] the wrong kind of people. They are intelligent, driven boys who could have become world leaders. Instead, they were taken down this dark path.”

Faraaz is based on the terror attack that took place in Dhaka’s Holey Artisan Bakery in 2016. The film also stars Shashi Kapoor’s grandson Zahan Kapoor along with Juhi Babbar, Aamir Ali and Pallak Lalwani. The movie is all set to release in theatres on February 3.

Rohit Shetty shares a BTS video from the sets of Indian Police Force

Rohit Shetty’s Amazon Prime Video series The Indian Police Force, starring Sidharth Malhotra, will mark his digital debut. Shetty recently published a video from the sets of The Indian Police Force of a speeding car spinning in the air on his social media accounts. He stated that there are no visual effects in the video. 

In the video, a yellow car is seen flipping in the air after colliding with a car ahead of it. Shetty, famed for his action blockbusters, is seen approaching the car, which is upside down on the road. Sharing the BTS video on his Instagram, he captioned, “BACK TO OUR OLD BUSINESS!!! Ab aane waale 2 saal Phaad denge. That’s how you flip a running car. NO VISUAL EFFECTS!!! EVERYTHING RAW AND REAL!!!”

Actor Sidharth Malhotra wrote, “Rohit sir n team killing it as usual,” while actress Shilpa Shetty dropped fire and evil eye emojis in the comments section. 

Reacting to the video, fans expressed their excitement for Indian Police Force in the comments section. A user commented, “Excited for this one,” while another commented, “Rohit sir hai to sab okay hi hoga.” 

The Indian Police Force is Rohit Shetty and Sidharth Malhotra’s debut collaboration. The series also stars Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Vivek Oberoi. He posted a photo of himself with the cast and crew and captioned, “It’s a wrap! What a pleasure it was to work with @itsrohitshetty sir! Can’t wait for you guys to witness an action packed series like none before. He has an incredibly hard working, honest and a warm team. Can say it was one of my best experiences being on the sets of #IndianPoliceForce. Thank you to the entire cast and crew for this wonderful journey. Independence Day 2023: Sunny Deol, Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham to clash with Vivek Agnihotri; neither willing to budge

Sunny Deol, John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor and Vivek Agnihotri are all set to clash at the box office this Independence Day. While the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal and Sunny Deol’s long-awaited Gadar sequel are both scheduled for release on August 11, John Abraham’s Tariq releases three days later on August 15. On the same day The Kashmir Files fame director Vivek Agnihotri also releases The Vaccine War.

It looks like a crowded weekend, with one too many releases for audiences to choose from. Apparently intense discussions are on among the producers of the four big films to see how the clutter can be resolved.

A source close to the development says, “Gadar 2 is the right fit for the Independence Day weekend. But the producers of Animal are in no mood to move from August 13. John who is a co-producer on Tariq, and Vivek Agnihotri with his The Vaccine War are also adamant on coming on August 15.The Independence Day weekend is a long weekend. So let’s see…”

Superman: Legacy, standalone Batman without Robert Pattinson, Supergirl movies, and Wonder Woman series – James Gunn announces 10 new DC projects under his leadership

Under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Saffran, DC Universe is undergoing a change. On Tuesday, Gunn announced 10 new projects that are in the works including a new Superman movie sans Henry Cavill set for 2025, a standalone Batman movie which will be set apart from Robert Pattinson starrer, a Supergirl movie and several series including one prequel on Wonder Woman.

The Superman movie written by James Gunn is officially titled Superman: Legacy, a movie on Batman and Robin, and a Green Lantern mystery series. “DC Studios is unprecedented,” Safran said, as per Variety. “It is a standalone production entity and studio. It is the first time ever that everything DC related — film, television, live-action, animation, gaming — is all centralized under one creative vision, that of James and myself.”

Superman: Legacy is set to open in theatres on July 11, 2025, and will mark the start of the DCU. It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing,” Safran said. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

“Superman is for everyone,” Gunn said. “That’s a four-quadrant film that should speak to everyone worldwide.” Interestingly, a separate Superman is also being produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, which is definitely in development and will exist outside of DC Universe.

The Gunn-written film will directly lead into The Authority which will be an ensemble movie about superhumans. He said this is a project he’s “really excited” to bring to life. As per the report, “The characters come from Wildstorm, which was launched in 1992 as an independent entity under current DC Comics chief Jim Lee and ultimately made an imprint of DC. The Wildstorm characters were later folded into the main DC comics universe when the company rebooted its continuity with the New 52 initiative in 2011.”

“It isn’t just a story of heroes and villains, and not every movie and TV show is going to be about good guy versus bad guy,” Gunn said. “There are very questionable people, like the Authority, who basically believe that you can’t fix the world in an easy manner, and they take things into their own hands.”

Added Safran, “They’re kind of like Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. They know that you want them on the wall, or at least they believe that.”

Another movie announces is The Brave and the Bold which is the new version of Batman in the DCU world, separate from Pattinson’s version. It will introduce the Bat-family. Robin will be a part of it: Damian Wayne. At the press meet, Gunn described Wayne Jr. as “our favorite Robin,” “a little son of a bitch,” an “assassin” and a “murderer.”

“It’s a very strange sort of father-son story about the two of them,” Gunn said. Damian Wayne is the son of Bruce Wayne who isn’t aware of his existence for the first ten years.

Next up will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is based on King’s comics run of the same title from 2021 and 2022, featuring Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El. “We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life,” James Gunn said.

Apart from these projects, Swamp Things, TV animated series Creature Commandos focused on “Frankenstein’s monster teaming up with a werewolf, a vampire and a gorgon to fight Nazis in World War II”, Waller, Lanterns, Wonder Woman prequel Paradise Lost, Booster Gold have been announced.

Meanwhile, four DC Titles to release in 2023 include Shazam! Fury of the Gods starring Zachary Levi on March 17, The Flash starring Ezra Miller on June 16, Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña on August 18 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa on December 21.

Anurag Kashyap gives credits to Shah Rukh Khan for bringing revolution in Hindi cinema; says, “Shah Rukh Khan ki Pathaan ke liye, aaj kranti ho rahi hai”

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan makes a stunning comeback to the big screen in the lead role with the release of Pathaan on January 25, 2023. Since its launch on January 25, the film’s box office earnings have crossed 200 crores. The film has ignited a huge global popularity. Everyone, including Bollywood fans, celebrities, and directors, is hailing the performer for his action-packed performance.

When asked if, in addition to love, movies can promote a “kranti” (revolution) in the nation, to which Anurag replied to Hindustan Times, “Filmon se hamesh hi aati hai. Aaj kranti ho rahi hai cinema halls mein, Shah Rukh Khan ki Pathaan ke liye, aaj kranti ho rahi hai (Films have also fanned revolution. Today there is a revolution in Indian cinema halls thanks to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan)…”

Anurag had lauded Shah Rukh Khan earlier too when he first saw Pathaan. He told reporters, “Shah Rukh Khan itna haseen, itna sundar pehle kabhi laga nahi. Toh hum toh usko dekhne aaye the aur dil khush ho gaya. Aur itna khatarnak action hai, Shah Rukh ke liye pehli baar aisa role hai. Mujhe nahi lagta unhone is tarah ka action pehle kiya hai. When asked if it is different from other romantic films of Shah Rukh Khan, Anurag said, “Ye us tarah ki film nahi hai. Ye bilkul alag film hai. Ye War aur Tiger us zone ki film hai. Shah Rukh ko is tarah ki film karte hue pehli baar dekha. Par kya body banaya hai unhone, khatarnaak banayi hai.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan has just released and has proved to be a massive success. It has become a must watch theatrical entertainer which is being celebrated across the nation. The film is part of Aditya Chopra’s ambitious spy universe and has the biggest superstars of the country Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in it. The actor has Atlee Kumar’s Jawan releasing in June 2023 and Rajkumar Hirani’s next Dunki scheduled for December 2023.

On the other end, with projects like Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat starring Vicky Kaushal, Alaya F, and Karan Mehta, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will also have a busy year. The film is slated to hit theatres on February 3.
