Pathaan: Shah Rukh Khan kept Tiger’s scarf as memento; talks about epic cameo of Salman Khan: ‘Matlab fans ka sawaal hai, choti script pe nahi chodh sakte’

Pathaan is now an all-time historic blockbuster – the biggest grossing in Hindi film history and audiences have loved how the YRF Spy Universe got two super-spies Salman Khan as Tiger and Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan in the film! SRK & Salman speak up for the first time about how thrilled they were to be back on screen, how Aditya Chopra floored them with the concept for their reunion to happen and how brilliantly Siddharth Anand directed and presented them with unforgettable swag!

Pathaan: Shah Rukh Khan kept Tiger's scarf as memento; talks about epic cameo of Salman Khan: 'Matlab fans ka sawaal hai, choti script pe nahi chodh sakte'

Salman Khan says, “For Shah Rukh and I to come together on the big screen, it always needed a special film and I’m glad Pathaan is that film. When we did Karan Arjun, it was a blockbuster and now, Pathaan, which is part of YRF’s Spy Universe, has also turned out to be a blockbuster. I’m aware that audiences love to see us together on screen and I’m happy that they have given us so much love in Pathaan. I was floored when Adi narrated the sequence to me and told me about his vision to bring us together on screen again.”

He adds, “His (Adi’s) intention was to play to the gallery and give our fans and audiences what they wanted to see from us. Given how closely Adi has known Shah Rukh and me, he truly managed to capture how we are as personalities in the scenes. This is why people are loving us on screen. Also, the way Sidharth executed the sequence and presented us was just brilliant. I’m happy for Shah Rukh and YRF for all the records that Pathaan is achieving. It is a huge win for Indian cinema that we are able to bring people back to the theatres after the pandemic.”

Shah Rukh says, “Trust me when I say this, Salman and I have always wanted to act together but we were waiting for the right film, the right script because we both knew that there would be incredible excitement to see us on screen but we would have to deliver that promise to audiences because they love us so much. If not, they would be mighty dejected and it wouldn’t work for the project. Matlab fans ka sawaal hai, choti script pe nahi chodh sakte types!!”

He adds, “So when Adi told me about the idea to bring the two super spies from YRF’s Spy Universe, Tiger and Pathaan, together to do some kick-ass action scenes, which I’m hoping many people have seen by now, I instantly jumped at it because this idea was delivering the promise of seeing Salman and me on the big screen. I’m delighted that people have loved seeing us together in Pathaan.”

SRK further says, “I know it was a long wait for fans to see us like this on screen and I’m glad that we have delivered a film that they are thoroughly enjoying. Besides this, it’s too much fun with Bhai on sets. I had missed being with him on screen so it all turned out as it should…and that Tiger scarf I am keeping as a memento!!”

Shah Rukh Khan has two more releases this year – Atlee Kumar’s Jawan releasing in June 2023 followed by Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki in December 2023.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan will next star in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. A Salman Khan Films Production, produced by Salma Khan, the film is directed by Farhad Samji. It also stars Venkatesh Daggubati, Pooja Hegde, Jagapathi Babu, Bhumika Chawla, Vijender Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Raghav Juyal, Siddharth Nigam, Jassie Gill, Shehnaaz Gill, Palak Tiwari and Vinali Bhatnagar and is expected to have all the elements of a Salman Khan film – action, comedy, drama, and romance. The film is slated to release on Eid 2023 and it will be a Zee Studios worldwide release.

Salim Khan says Amitabh Bachchan did not maintain his relationship with him: ‘Relationship rakhna yeh aapka farz banta hai’

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar created the ‘angry young man’ trope in the 80s in Hindi cinema with Zanjeer which changed the trajectory of the writer duo Salim-Javed and Amitabh Bachchan. As Big B became one of the biggest stars of that era, so did the writers who went on to pen several big films. Salim Khan recently recalled how many actors had said no to the film.

Salim Khan says Amitabh Bachchan did not maintain his relationship with him: ‘Relationship rakhna yeh aapka farz banta hai’

In an interview on Bollywood Bubble, Salim Khan told Arbaaz Khan that actors like Dharmendra, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar had passed on the script of Zanjeer when it finally landed with Amitabh Bachchan. No leading lady was attached to the project and many didn’t want to star due to the small role. So, Amitabh Bachchan reached out to Jaya Bachchan and asked her to star in it. Khan revealed, “I suggested ki Jaya Bachchan ko le lo. She will do it and she will do it for him. Kahani bhi sunayi Jaya ko toh unhone kaha ki mera toh kuch hai nahi ismein zyada. Maine kaha ki haan ismein kuch hai nahi aapka zyada magar Amitabh Bachchan ke liye yeh ek aisi kahani hai ki yeh phod ke rakh degi (I suggested let’s take Jaya Bachchan. She will do it and she will do it for him. When I narrated the story to her, she said that she doesn’t have much to do in the film. I said yes, you don’t have much to do here but it can change Amitabh’s career).”

Salim Khan said that Amitabh Bachchan was known for his professionalism and Salim-Javed ensure to bring up his name during every project. However, following the split of Salim and Javed, Amitabh didn’t keep in touch with Salim as he was reserved in nature. He said, “Yeh joh thi relation rakhne ki responsibility, unpe thi. Aap jab bahut bade star ho jaate ho, aapki responsibility hoti hai ki usse milna julna joh bhi ho, relationship rakhna yeh aapka farz banta hai. Joh ki unhone shayad kisi wajah se nahi kiya (The responsibility of maintaining relationships was his. When you become a big star, it is on you to maintain relationships, which, for some reason, he did not do).”

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Brahmastra and Unnchai. He has Nag Ashwin’s next with Prabhas and Deepika Padukone tentatively titled Project K.

Box Office – Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan is Bollywood’s biggest now, surpasses Aamir Khan’s Dangal lifetime and enters Rs 400 Crore Club

Shah Rukh Khan has done it. He is now officially on the top of the game, what with his Pathaan emerging as Bollywood’s highest grosser ever. What’s all the more remarkable is that it has done it without much fuss with the record being scored on a day it got over Rs 20 crores in its kitty. Typically, when it comes to the game of records, there is some kind of a waiting period involved as the collections begin to taper and then it all boils down to Rs 1-2 crore been collected on a daily basis which result in a make or break for the film in question.

Box Office - Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan is Bollywood's biggest now, surpasses Aamir Khan's Dangal lifetime and enters Rs 400 Crore Club

Well, not in case of Pathaan which had its 11th day bigger than the 1st day of all Bollywood releases of 2022, barring Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva [Rs 37 crores]. This shows how strongly is the Sidharth Anand directed film running in theatres and there is so much more that would be earned in days and weeks to come. With Rs 23 crores* been collected on Saturday, the film is on a super strong run which will only get accentuated by a huge Sunday awaiting it. Will it hit the Rs 30 crores mark again? Well, looks quite possible though that would be unprecedented.

As for the record breaking journey then well, with Rs 401.15 crores* in its kitty so far, the film is far ahead of Rs 387.38 crores which Dangal had collected in its lifetime back in 2016. It has taken many years for Bollywood to finally go one up in terms of records and one just hopes that whatever score that this Yash Raj Films production gains by the end of its lifetime, that record is also surpassed by another Bollywood biggie in a matter of months itself and not years.

All time mega blockbuster.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
