SCOOP: The real reason why Salman Khan is not doing Ravindra Kaushik Biopic Black Tiger

Salman Khan is among the biggest superstars of all time and every move of his makes it to the headline. During the pandemic time, Salman had confirmed in a media interaction that he was in talks for the official biopic of Indian Spy, Ravindra Kaushik with director Rajkumar Gupta. However, after that, things fizzled out. Now, a source close to Salman tells us the real reason why Bhaijaan is not doing the film.

“Salman Khan is already doing a spy film in the Tiger Franchise which will be growing from strength to strength in the years to come by. He didn’t want to do another spy film, which will lead to a comparison between the two characters. Interestingly, even the legendary Indian spy, Ravindra Kaushik had the code name Tiger, making things even more similar. Hence, after a series of discussions with his team, he let go off Black Tiger,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The rights to make the film were resting with director Rajkumar Gupta. “After confirming with Salman about his involvement in the project, Rajkumar Gupta didn’t renew the rights. They eventually lapsed and were acquired by Anurag Basu. The film will now be made by Anurag Basu, who also has Salman at the back of his mind,” the source further told us.

What about conflict with Tiger? “Anurag Basu’s vision for Ravindra Kaushik is very different from the Tiger franchise. However, he is still not 100 percent sure about the casting of Black Tiger. There is also a chance of him approaching a younger actor to play the lead role. We will have a clear picture on Black Tiger in one month.”

Ravindra Kaushik is the most iconic spy of RAW and the biopic on him is awaited by one and all.

15 Years of Jodhaa Akbar: The Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer was a RARE film to face ZERO competition for 6 weeks at the box office

Recently, the much-awaited film Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is having a golden run at the box office. The blockbuster took an earth-shattering opening and on top of that, it got a clean three-week run in cinemas. This was a rare phenomenon as usually, even the biggest of films get only two weeks of uninterrupted run in theatres. Hence, it’ll be a surprise for readers to know that Jodhaa Akbar (2008), which had released 15 years ago, played in cinemas with negligible completion for as many as 6 weeks! In other words, from February 15, 2008, to March 20, 2008, the period drama was the only major film running in theatres!

15 Years of Jodhaa Akbar The Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer was a RARE film to face ZERO competition for 6 weeks at the box office

Jodhaa Akbar got a release in around 1000 screens. Due to its long length (around 210 minutes) and lesser screens at that time, the shows were limited and moreover, the film didn’t get a release in states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. As a result, its opening of Rs. 3.81 crores was probably below expectations. However, the word of mouth was positive and moreover, it had a dream run with no competition. It ended its first week with collections amounting to Rs. 21.83 crores. The film collected Rs. 13.16 crores and Rs. 8.60 crores in Weeks 2 and 3 respectively.

In the fourth week, a film named Black & White (2008) did release, on March 7. Directed by Subhash Ghai, it starred Anil Kapoor, Anurag Sinha, Shefali Shah, and Aditi Sharma. But it was a small, niche film and didn’t pose a competition as such. Jodhaa Akbar in Week 4 faced a normal drop and collected Rs. 5.02 crores. In its fifth week, there was again no release and this is when the movie earned Rs. 4.14 crores.

It was only in the sixth week that a major film arrived in cinemas, Race (2008). It had an ensemble cast comprising Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy. As expected, Jodhaa Akbar faced a major drop that week, collecting Rs. 1.69 crores.

But Jodhaa Akbar continued to play in cinemas and ended its domestic lifetime run with Rs. 56.04 crores. It might seem underwhelming but one needs to consider that this was a time when historicals were considered a risky proposition. The last big period film before Jodhaa Akbar, J P Dutta’s Umrao Jaan (2006), had bombed. Also, Jodhaa Akbar had released in the pre-Bajirao Mastani (2015), Baahubali (2015), Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), Padmaavat (2018) etc. era. Hence, for it to even cross the Rs. 50 crore mark way back in 2008, that too with no show in a few states, was a feat.

Interestingly, three years later, a similar phenomenon was repeated with Tanu Weds Manu (2011). The R Madhavan-Kangana Ranaut starrer was released on February 25, 2011. Believe it or not, it faced no competition at all in the month of March, possibly because the ICC Cricket World Cup was going on. Just like Jodhaa Akbar, it also faced competition directly in Week 6 in cinemas with the releases of Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Game and Jackky Bhagnani-Arshad Warsi-Riteish Deshmukh starrer FALTU.

Amazon Prime Video decides to defer the release of Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Tiku Weds Sheru

It seems like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is wading through troubled waters is sinking deeper. While on one side his personal life is taking centre stage on social media, on the other we hear that the fallout has now affected his projects as well. If what the grapevine says is true, then apparently OTT streaming giant Amazon Prime Video, which had announced the release of the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Tiku Weds Sheru, has now decided to defer the release of the film.

Amazon Prime Video decides to defer the release of Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Tiku Weds Sheru

Revealing details about the same a source close to the development informed Bollywood Hungama, “Earlier this year Amazon Prime Video held a massive press conference where they announced a number of shows and films that were to release in 2023. Among them was the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Tiku Weds Sheru. Though there was no date, Prime Video did claim that the film would release this year. However, now looking at the issues Nawaz is facing, the streaming giant has decided to defer the release and put it on the back burner for the time being.” Quiz the source on the reason behind this and he continues, “Before a film releases, there are promotions, be it a theatrical or OTT release. But with Nawaz finding himself in the eye of the storm, the OTT platform sees this as a hurdle and to avoid bad press which could damage the film, the decision was taken to postpone its release.”

While currently, an official confirmation on the rescheduling of Tiku Weds Sheru is awaited, the film itself is said to be a romantic drama and a dark satire film. Produced by Kangana Ranaut, and written & directed by Sai Kabir under the banner of Manikarnika Films, Tiku Weds Sheru stars Avneet Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.
