Pooja Hegde says, “I have grown as an actor in the films that didn’t do well”

Pooja Hegde is currently gearing up for her first film with Salman Khan in the form of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Last year, the actress had four releases Radhe Shyam, Acharya, Beast and Cirkus. Out of these, except Beast, the other three didn’t do well at the box office.

Reacting to this, Pooja has said that actors should be “allowed to fail.” Speaking to the PTI (Press Trust of India), she said, “I am a working actor. It is always dot, dot, dot, there is no full stop yet. As actors, we should be allowed to fail. That’s a very important part of our process. It is all part and parcel of the game. Name me one actor, who hasn’t had failure, everyone has.”

The actress elaborated, “I remember watching an interview of someone who had said, ‘As actors our strength lies in the ability to be able to fail because that’s when we can give you something new.’ If I don’t make a few mistakes, I will not grow.”

Pooja entered the scene with Mysskin’s Tamil film Mugamoodi in 2012. She made her debut in Bollywood with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro in 2016, which starred Hrithik Roshan as the lead. But Pooja has been more active in the south.

While highlighting how her unsuccessful films have also had a contribution in her journey, she added, “As an actor, I think, ‘Did I do my best job?’ and when I see people have appreciated it, so in a way it has been great. I had six blockbuster films back-to-back. You didn’t see me complaining at that time, so how can I complain now? I am counting my blessings. It is all for the good. I have grown as an actor in the films that didn’t do well.”

Directed by Farhad Samji, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan will be releasing during Eid on April 21.

Kher revealed that Vanshika sent him a note to be preserved next to her father after Kaushik’s lifeless bones were brought to his Mumbai residence from Delhi. She assured Kher that she would read it at the appropriate time when he asked her what she had written in it. Vanshika read out the letter loud in front of all the industry celebs that attended the party. She said, “Hello Papa, I know that now you are no more but I want you to know that I will always be there for you. Your friends taught me to be strong but I can’t live without you. I miss you so much. If I knew this was going to happen, I would miss school just to spend time with you. I wish I could have hugged you once. You are still in my heart. Like the movies, I wish there is a miracle and you are alive. I don’t know who will save me from mumma when I will not do my homework. I do not feel like going to school anymore. I don’t know what my friends will say. Will they make fun of me? Please come in my dreams every single day. I have done pooja for you and I want you to be in heaven and live a happy life in a big mansion with a Rolls-Royce and a Ferrari. You will eat great food. Anyways, we will meet in 90 years again. Please don’t be reborn, we will meet in 90 years. Please remember me, I will remember you forever. I had the world’s best dad ever.”

Amol Palekar compares early Bollywood with south cinema; says, “I found the south Indian film industry to be so much more professional”

Veteran actor Amol Palekar, who rose to prominence in Hindi cinema in the 1970s, admitted that the south Indian film industries were much more organised and well-run than the Hindi film industries even in those early years. Only three performers in Hindi films, including himself, were known for arriving on time, according to Palekar.

Amol Palekar compares early Bollywood with south cinema; says, “I found the south Indian film industry to be so much more professional”

Amol told Rajshri Unplugged, “There were only three actors in our time who used to show up on time, and I was the most junior in that list. First was Dev Anand, if he was required at 9 am, he would be there sharp at 9. Second was Amitabh Bachchan, on dot every time, anywhere. Third was me.”

When Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth were both shooting in the same studio at the same time, Amol noticed that while Bachchan would always be on time, Rajinikanth would arrive far earlier. He said, “Amitabh always used to be on time and Rajinikanth would arrive even earlier, ready with make-up. He would come and sit there with the spot boys, light boys. He would sit with them on the bench and talk with them, have tea with them. And at the given time, if the shift is at 9, he would go up to the director at 9 and say, ‘Yes sir, I am ready’.”

In the Hindi film industry, it was formerly fashionable for people to arrive late as a symbol of their being the bigger celebrity. Amol said, “There was a trend here in the Hindi film industry that the bigger the star, he would arrive that much later, or the one who arrives late is the bigger star. I found this extremely unprofessional.” He added, “All these wrong trends were not there in the south film industries.”

“I found the south Indian film industry to be so much more professional, extremely well equipped and without any how do I put it? We have a lot more frills. That’s not the culture there. They are all very humble, very nice people to work with. I used to enjoy working there,” Amol added.

He observed that the current generation of performers is significantly better prepared, arrives on time, and knows their lines; therefore the culture of the Hindi film industry has now altered substantially.

The Little Mermaid: Halle Bailey shows off her powerful vocals; new look at Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula behind-the-scenes featurette unveiled

A new featurette, “A World Reimagined,” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which provides an exclusive look at the live-action reimaging of the studio’s animated musical classic, has been unveiled. “She’s hilarious and terrifying,” Awkwafina says about Melissa McCarthy, who plays the sinister Ursula. Ariel is played by Halle Bailey who shows off her vocal chops in the featurette.

“We got a deal?” Ursula asks Ariel in the video. When she doesn’t get an answer, Ursula adds, “I mean, I just gave you the premium package, kid.”

Halle Bailey is also shown recording the track ‘Part of Your World (Reprise),’ which Ariel sings after saving Prince Eric from drowning.  “Halle Bailey, when she sang for us, it was so emotional,” says director Rob Marshall. “She set the bar, and no one ever surpassed it.”

The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel; Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric; Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian; Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle; Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder; Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina; Art Malik as Sir Grimsby; with Oscar-winner Javier Bardem as King Triton; and two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

The Little Mermaid, helmed by visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall, opens exclusively in theatres nationwide on May 26, 2023.

Gulzar unveils the poster of Saiyami Kher and Gulshan Devaiah starrer 8 A.M. Metro

Legendary lyricist, filmmaker and poet Gulzar, recipient of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award, unveiled the poster of writer-director Raj R’s 8 A. M. Metro at his Bandra home. Starring Gulshan Devaiah and Saiyami Kher, the film is an emotional roller-coaster slated to release on 19th May. The film is being distributed by Shiladitya Bora’s Platoon Distribution. Raj, earlier directed the award-winning Telugu film Mallesham in 2019 and was associated with the 2021 Malayalam film, Paka, which was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Gulzar was elated to contribute 6 of his poems to the film. During the film’s poster launch, he expressed a warm sense of euphoria and mentioned how he felt a pinch in his heart, the first time he read the lovely script; a feeling that instantly inspired him to contribute passionately to the film. Speaking about the film and Gulzar’s contribution, Raj says, “It’s a story of two strangers who inadvertently bump into each other in the metro and strike up an unlikely friendship, in the process finding themselves and each other. I can’t thank Gulzar Saab enough for this magnanimous gesture and feel a deep sense of gratitude towards the legend that he is.”

Saiyami plays a 29-year-old housewife Iravati whose mundane life in Nanded is turned upside down when she has to rush to Hyderabad to tend to her pregnant sister who is confined to the bed. Fighting off recurring panic attacks, she turns to Gulshan’s Preetam, a banker with more to him than meets the eye, and the duo subsequently go on many journeys, both physical and metaphysical, finding solace in each other’s company. “But there’s a catch because my character harbours a secret which can tear them apart and also what they believe in,” shares Gulshan, who was instantly intrigued by this deceptively simple story.

For Saiyami, it was the snatches of poetry that she writes and which Preetam comes to appreciate that was one of the attractions of the project. “Can you believe I’m mouthing poetry written by Gulzar Sahab!” the actress exclaims.

Apart from Gulzar’s poetry, the movie music, done by Mark K. Robin, features songs written by Kausar Munir, and sung by artists like Jubin Nautiyal, Jonita Gandhi, Javed Ali, Vishal Mishra, and the Nooran Sisters. The film is slated to release on 19th May in cinemas across India.
