Taapsee Pannu completes 10 years in Bollywood; says, “I have had as many lows as highs in the last 10 years”

Actress Taapsee Pannu completed 10 glorious years in Bollywood. She made her debut with a David Dhawan film Chashme Baddoor (2013) starring alongside Ali Zafar. In a recent interview, Taapsee spoke about her journey in the film industry.

When Taapsee Pannu began her career in the Hindi film industry with Chashme Baddoor starring Ali Zafar in lead, ten years ago, she didn’t have a clear career path back then. Taapsee said, “I was told that it’s a short-lived career and there are not many examples of people who lasted for a long time. So I always thought that, ‘Okay, I’m just gonna be here around for a couple of more years’.”

Before entering Bollywood, the actor had appeared in a few Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. She told Hindustan Times, “During my stint in the South, I realised that I was dispensable. I began to feel that I needed to have something more besides just having a female presence in films. I wanted the audience to believe that I wouldn’t waste their money and time. My only goal was to become someone who is not easily replaceable.”

In 2023, Pannu is one of the most popular actors and claimed to be content with her artistic career. She said, “Barring all the misses that I learnt from, I do have a credible career graph to be proud of. In fact, that’s the only thing that has encouraged me to move forward. I feel satisfied. I have nothing else to keep patting my back. And I am definitely in a place where I am satisfied.”

The actress acknowledged that she aspired to establish a distinct personality through her art, and that her attitude of self-critical assisted her in doing so. “A lot of people (actors) who come into this industry don’t have a recall value. But I have been lucky to get back-to-back good opportunities that helped me create a unique identity and leave a strong impression on the audience’s mind.”

When asked to identify the lowest point in these ten years, the actress replied, “Being an actor, I’ve kept myself vulnerable to situations in life… to make sure I stay as real as possible. This obviously makes you experience a lot of lows as well. But I’ll just say that I have had as many lows as highs in the last 10 years. And I’m sure there’ll be many more to come. All I know is that I chose a non-monotonous life. And that’s what I got.”

Coming to the professional front, the 35-year-old actress was last seen in Blurr. She will be next seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. Besides this, she is also gearing up for the sequel of her 2021 release, Haseen Dillruba.

Pooja Hegde says, “I have grown as an actor in the films that didn’t do well”

Pooja Hegde is currently gearing up for her first film with Salman Khan in the form of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Last year, the actress had four releases Radhe Shyam, Acharya, Beast and Cirkus. Out of these, except Beast, the other three didn’t do well at the box office.

Reacting to this, Pooja has said that actors should be “allowed to fail.” Speaking to the PTI (Press Trust of India), she said, “I am a working actor. It is always dot, dot, dot, there is no full stop yet. As actors, we should be allowed to fail. That’s a very important part of our process. It is all part and parcel of the game. Name me one actor, who hasn’t had failure, everyone has.”

The actress elaborated, “I remember watching an interview of someone who had said, ‘As actors our strength lies in the ability to be able to fail because that’s when we can give you something new.’ If I don’t make a few mistakes, I will not grow.”

Pooja entered the scene with Mysskin’s Tamil film Mugamoodi in 2012. She made her debut in Bollywood with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro in 2016, which starred Hrithik Roshan as the lead. But Pooja has been more active in the south.

While highlighting how her unsuccessful films have also had a contribution in her journey, she added, “As an actor, I think, ‘Did I do my best job?’ and when I see people have appreciated it, so in a way it has been great. I had six blockbuster films back-to-back. You didn’t see me complaining at that time, so how can I complain now? I am counting my blessings. It is all for the good. I have grown as an actor in the films that didn’t do well.”

Directed by Farhad Samji, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan will be releasing during Eid on April 21.

I miss you so much. If I knew this was going to happen, I would miss school just to spend time with you. I wish I could have hugged you once. You are still in my heart. Like the movies, I wish there is a miracle and you are alive. I don’t know who will save me from mumma when I will not do my homework. I do not feel like going to school anymore. I don’t know what my friends will say. Will they make fun of me? Please come in my dreams every single day. I have done pooja for you and I want you to be in heaven and live a happy life in a big mansion with a Rolls-Royce and a Ferrari. You will eat great food. Anyways, we will meet in 90 years again. Please don’t be reborn, we will meet in 90 years. Please remember me, I will remember you forever. I had the world’s best dad ever.”
