Bhumi Pednekar aims to clean The Himalayas through an ecological preservation campaign

Climate Warrior Bhumi Pednekar is setting herself on a massive mission to clean The Himalayas! On the occasion of World Earth Day, Bhumi announced that she is partnering with a non-profit, Healing Himalayas, that does extensive and exemplary work towards the preservation of ecology in the mountain range. Bhumi, who is also the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) ambassador, will now become the Goodwill Ambassador of Healing Himalayas! Bhumi’s work with Healing Himalayas will see her travelling to these mountainous regions and participating in cleanliness drives aimed at keeping The Himalayas clean.

Bhumi Pednekar aims to clean The Himalayas through an ecological preservation campaign

Healing Himalayas Foundation is a seven-year-old organization formed to address the problem of garbage in a rather unique way – they are committed to restoring the pristine natural environment of the Himalayas. The organization has taken over the onerous task of cleaning out trash from the picturesque Himalayas. Their primary mission being – to dissolve the problem of waste management by collecting tons of non-biodegradable items discarded by the trekkers or pilgrims and disposing it properly at the base town/city where it can also be recycled.

To handle the collected waste through their cleanup campaigns & multiple panchayats which are a part of our Zero waste villages, they have built five material recovery facilities at locations (Mansari- Kullu district, Rakcham & Pooh village in Kinnaur, Tabo in Spiti & Narkanda in Shimla district) where tourist footfall is quite substantial. All the five facilities are operational and since last year they have collect 4-5 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste daily which is approximately 550 tonnes.

Speaking about this association Bhumi Pednekar said, “The motto of Healing Himalayas ‘Don’t Wait for Change, Be the Change’ truly resonated with me. I believe that each one of us must realise our responsibility towards the planet and actively strive to reduce the impact of pollution and global warming. The time to act is now! This campaign gives me a chance to speak on the urgent need to preserve The Himalayas and its delicate yet essential ecosystem. I am honoured to be the Goodwill Ambassador of the Healing Himalayas. I will do my absolute best to visit as many sites as possible during my tenure and also participate in raising awareness about this important cause.”

Pradeep Sangwan, the founder and promoter of the Healing Himalayas Foundation added, “Bhumi Pednekar has persistently and relentlessly advocated against climate change and pollution. She is an aware individual who is followed by the youth of the country. So, having her as a part of this campaign enables us to raise more awareness towards keeping our mountains clean and how preserving its eco-system is an absolute necessity. We are sure that we will do good work together to keep The Himalayas clean.”

As a climate change advocate, Bhumi has been speaking up constantly through her social media platforms and has regularly drawn attention to the work of climate activists at the grassroots level. She has also spoken at the prestigious Harvard University on the need to protect our planet.

When Suniel Shetty told his mother-in-law that he might “beat up” JP Dutta on Border sets

Border not only remains one of Suniel Shetty’s best films but also one of his best performances. But it might come as a major surprise to his fans that the actor was hell-bent on not doing the film and was avoiding the film’s director JP Dutta for a long time. He revealed this in the latest episode of the podcast The Ranveer Show.

Shetty essayed the real life character Bhairon Singh Rathore, a BSF (Border Security Force) officer who played a major role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, in the movie. The actor revealed on the podcast that he didn’t want to work with Dutta as he had heard about his short temper. “I had heard a lot of stories about JP Dutta, that he gets angry and abuses his actors,” said Shetty.

Dutta didn’t give up even after Shetty’s plain refusal. In fact, the filmmaker approached Shetty’s mother-in-law in order to persuade him to do the film. “When he came to me with Border, I refused to sign it. He made me hear the subject. I respected him but then I said no. He couldn’t understand why I had said no to that character. That struggle went on for 2-3 months and he was hell-bent on me doing that character. He got to (producer) Bharat Shah, who lived in my mother-in-law’s building, and he then went to my mother-in-law. It was her who convinced me to do Border,” revealed Shetty.

Although Shetty signed the film, he feared he might “beat up” Dutta. “I told mom that he is hot-headed and he might say things. I am hot-headed too. I might use my arm for certain things. So, I don’t want to bash up with JP Dutta and beat him up on the set. She told him that and JP said, ‘I only get upset when people don’t give their 100 per cent.’”

But Shetty’s experience was the opposite of what he feared and he was left in awe of Dutta. “After working with him in Border, I realised he is in love with the Indian forces, otherwise he would have been a commercial director. He would have done 100 films because there were 100 producers chasing him. But he only did what he believed in. So it was a life lesson from a man like that. For me, he is my guru today, master craftsman, and phenomenal human being,” he said.

Border also starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Pooja Bhatt, Puneet Issar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, among others.

EXCLUSIVE: Rajkumar Santoshi explains why Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan or Salman Khan behave like newcomers on his sets; admits that clashing Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan was a MISTAKE

Veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi was not in the best of his health when we met him. But he was more than excited to promote his upcoming directorial venture, Bad Boy, which marks the debut of Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi and producer Sajid Qureshi’s daughter, Amrin. The filmmaker apologized for the delay and then sat down to speak exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about the film and a lot more.

How did you get the idea to make the film? Also, how did the title ‘Bad Boy’ originate?
We decided to name the film Bad Boy after hearing the script. I was working on a film called Fateh Singh, starring Sunny Deol. It is produced by my friend Sajid Qureshi. I had gone to London to do the recce. However, this was a time when Sunny entered politics and our film got delayed. This is when Sajid showed me a Telugu film. I can’t recall the name. He asked me, ‘Raj ji, iss film jaisa kuch bana sakte hai kya?’. I saw the film along with our writer, Sanjeev. We realized that we can take inspiration and make a film on it. This is how we wrote the script and the dialogues.

As for the title, I had this habit of saying ‘Bad Boy’ to my pet dog whenever he would do mischief! One day, I realized that it suits this film perfectly. This is how the movie got its title.

You have cast newcomers in Bad Boy. Was there ever a plan to go for established actors?
It’s a story about youngsters. So, you can’t make it with established actors. The characters needed innocence, especially in the comic and funny scenes and this is more effective with newcomers. Sajid bhai told me that Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi is very interested to work. I made it clear, ‘I’ll audition him and if required, I’ll even shoot a scene with him. If he’s right, we’ll consider him’. Similarly, someone told me about Amrin and I auditioned her. It was a no-brainer that they’ll bag the film only if they suit the part and not because Namashi is Mithun da’s son or Amrin is the producer’s daughter. Both were obedient and disciplined on the sets.

You have worked with some of the biggest names. And the last time you launched newcomers was for Barsaat (1995), which marked the debuts of Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna. How was it to launch newcomers after nearly 25 years? Is it a challenge to work with them or is it easy to work with freshers?
It’s not a challenge. The advantage of working with youngsters is that they can be moulded the way you want. They are always eager to learn. And most importantly, be it Bobby or Twinkle in Barsaat or Namashi and Amrin in Bad Boy, they suited their respective characters. When they do their job well and get praise, you feel proud. Also, thanks to the super-success of Ghayal (1990), even established actors behaved like newcomers on my sets, be it Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan or Salman Khan. They were all enthusiastic on my sets. I had to mould them and teach them as well about how to emote and perform.

EXCLUSIVE Rajkumar Santoshi explains why Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan or Salman Khan behave like newcomers on his sets; admits that clashing Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan was a MISTAKE

This is the first time you have worked with music director Himesh Reshammiya for your directorial venture…
Yes. I had worked with him before in Insan (2005), which I had produced. He’s a very gifted composer. Instinctively, he can come up with rooted Indian melodies composed with modern arrangements. I am happy with his work.

Bad Boy is having a solo release of sorts, on April 28. Was that a conscious decision, considering your last film Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh (2023) clashed with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and got severely affected…
Yes, releasing Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh with Pathaan was a mistake. As for Bad Boy’s release, it has been planned by producer Sajid Qureshi. And yes this is a good release date.

You mentioned at the beginning of the interview that you are working on Fateh Singh. Recently, you also admitted that you’ll be directing Lahore 1947, a film adaptation of Asghar Wajahat’s play, Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai, starring Sunny and Karan Deol. Could you tell us which film will go on the floors first?
I have some 5-6 scripts that are ready. It all depends on the investor, the actors and which one has the potential to work more. We also need to consider the dates of the actors. For nearly 8 years, I was sitting idle. This is when I worked on multiple scripts. Now, I am trying to cover up the lost time. However, Bad Boy took a lot of time due to Covid issues. In between, I also completed Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh. I completed both films in 62-63 days each.
