It will be an investigative fantasy drama set at ZEE5 which will span across three decades and timelines – 1990, 2001 and 2016. The series Gyaarah Gyaarah is directed by Pagglait fame Umesh Bisht and co-written by Puja Banerji and Sunjoy Shekhar.

The K-drama is one of the most critically acclaimed drams of all time. As per Asian Wiki, Signal narrates the story of “Park Hae Yeong, who was a student in elementary school at the time, who saw a young girl being abducted on her way home from school fifteen years ago. The girl was discovered dead a few days later, but the authorities were unable to identify the killer. Hae Yeong eventually developed a distrust for the police. Hae Yeong is currently a police officer and criminal profiler after fifteen years. He comes across a walkie-talkie one day, which enables him to communicate with Detective Lee Jae Han who is in the past. Afterwards, in an effort to investigate unsolved crimes, police officers Cha So Hyun, Hae Yeong, and Jae Han set out on a voyage.”

The criminal case depicted in Signal is reportedly inspired by a true incident which occurred in South Korea’s Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province over the course of 1986 – 1991. Reports had stated that 10 women were allegedly raped and murdered within the 2 km radius of the province with victims ranging from a 13-year-old school girl to a 71-year-old grandmother.

Anurag Kashyap reveals that he reached out to Kennedy namesake Chiyaan Vikram for the film; says, “He never responded”

Anurag Kashyap recently attended the Festival De Cannes 2023 for the premiere of his film Kennedy starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. However, the filmmaker recently revealed that the film was created with a specific actor in mind and it was none other than Ponniyin Selvan star Chiyaan Vikram. The South superstar is named Kennedy which was one of the prime reasons why he was being considered for the role.

Anurag Kashyap reveals that he reached out to Kennedy namesake Chiyaan Vikram for the film; says, “He never responded”

In an interview with Film Companion during the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap said, “I actually had a specific actor in mind, when I wrote this film. Which is why the film is called Kennedy”. He went on to continue, “Because that actor’s nickname is Kennedy. The film was called Kennedy Project. It is Chiyaan Vikram. Chiyaan Vikram’s real name is Kennedy. I reached out to him. He never responded.”

He later opened up about Ugly actor Rahul Bhat coming on board adding, “So then, I reached out to Rahul. I said ‘Read it’. His reaction, his response was enthusiastic. And not like as an actor. And he was like, ‘Yeh Kaun kar raha hai (Who is doing this role)?’ I said, ‘Karega (Will you do it)?’ He said ‘Me?’ I said, ‘Yes, but you will have to give it all’. And he was supposed to do some films. He gave eight months of his life to Kennedy.”

Kennedy is essentially a police noir film, by Anurag Kashyap featuring Rahul Bhat in the role of a cop turned assassin. The film revolves around an insomniac ex-cop, who is assumedly dead but continues to operate for the corrupt system. It is written and directed by Anurag Kashyap and is produced by Zee Studios, Ranjan Singh & Kabir Ahuja. The film will be screened at Midnight Screening category on May 24.

Box Office: Fast X and The Kerala Story bring in Rs. 75 crores+ over the weekend

It was a very good weekend for theatrical business as a whole, what with Fast X and The Kerala Story collecting around Rs. 75 crores between them. While the former did the heavy lifting by being the top performing film across the country, the latter came up with a substantial contribution as well which aided the overall numbers to look quite good.

Box Office: Fast X and The Kerala Story bring in Rs. 75 crores+ over the weekend

Fast X had released on Thursday and post that in the regular weekend (Friday – Sunday), it added another Rs. 49 crores*. That’s a very good number in a standalone manner as well and if one adds Thursday collections to it then the extended weekend stands at a solid Rs. 61 crores*. Audiences have clearly embraced the film and the trend so far indicates that Rs. 5-6 crores should come on a daily basis for the action entertainer right from Monday to Thursday. The film is a hit and while Rs. 100 crores mark would now be reached, it has to be seen if it has in it to make a dash for that Rs. 125 crores score.

On the other hand The Kerala Story will certainly reach Rs. 225 crores, what with Rs. 198.90 crores already been accumulated. In fact, it has narrowly missed out on scoring Rs. 200 crores by the third weekend itself, something that seemed like happening till a few days back. However, what wasn’t accounted for was the release of Fast X and the good reception that it has received, something that did cut at least Rs. 5 crores from its score over the weekend. With over Rs. 25 crores coming between Friday to Sunday, what with the film getting into a double digit score all over again on Sunday (Rs. 11.50 crores), the Sudipto Sen starrer is a bonafide all time blockbuster and will eventually move ahead of Rs. 225 crores lifetime total rather comfortably.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
