Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has completed three decades in the film industry. The director took to his Instagram on Saturday to mark the occasion when he arrived in Mumbai, 30 years ago.

Sharing a photo of Punjab Mail, the filmmaker wrote that he arrived in Dadar on June 3, 1993.  He wrote, “3rd June , 1993 I landed at Dadar station .. it was raining. I didn’t know that monsoons in Bombay were that long .. I remember taking my first local train from Dadar to Andheri to meet a friend, who came from Delhi before me. He who became the inspiration for @imtiazaliofficial ‘s most special film ‘Rockstar’. I got courage from both Jaggu and Imti to come to mumbai but then, they got into @sxcbom to do Mass Com .. and I just have been figuring ever since. So grateful to this city for everything and all the friends and memories that it has given me .. #karmbhoomi.”

On the work front, Anurag Kashyap was in Cannes 2023 for the premiere of his film Kennedy starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat.

Odisha Train Accident: Salman Khan, Jr. NTR, Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra and others express grief over the tragic collision

Indian celebrities on Saturday took to social media to express their sadness over the tragic train accident in Odisha. As per the latest report in NDTV, at least 238 people were killed and more than 900 injured in the horrific collision between three trains. The officials have said that this is the country’s deadliest rail accident in more than 20 years. The accident occurred between Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train on Saturday. The rescue operations are currently underway. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced one-day state mourning. Meanwhile, PM Modi, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Jr. NTR, and Sunny Deol among others are mourning the loss of lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected.”

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan is the latest celebrity to speak about the movie, The Kerala Story after calling it a propaganda movie. The actor recently said that he would never urge a movie to be banned but would want the people to understand the purpose of the movie.

Kamal spoke at India Today Conclave South 2023 and said, “I wouldn’t ban any film, let them talk. I would try to tell people to understand the film and what is the purpose of the film. That’s what I am doing when people ask me about… because my film was banned in Tamil Nadu, Vishwaroopam. People are still wondering why it was banned. There was a case between Raj Kamal Films and the Tamil Nadu government. We won the case and released the film. I wouldn’t advocate banning any film. As a matter of fact, I was one of the strong advocates in turning the certification board into a censor board and banning or editing films.”

He added, “This country should have free speech. They can certify the film and say certain people could not see the film. Audiences should go to watch a film like The Kerala Story with suspended disbelief and then think.”

The trailer previously claimed that the movie was a true story based on the story of 32,000 women but was later changed to 3 women. Speaking about the same, Haasan added, “I have not seen the film but have heard of what people have spoken of it. From what I could derive, certain things could have happened but you cannot increase or exaggerate numbers or make it look like a national crisis.”

The Kerala Story is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who is also the film’s creative director. Apart from Adah Sharma playing the role of the main lead, the film stars Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, Pranay Pachauri and Chandra Shekhar Dutta. Directed by Sudipto Sen under the banner Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd., the film released theatres on May 5, 2023.

The box office can be quite unpredictable and for a change, this Friday has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, opened beyond expectations. As per early estimates, its first-day collections are in the range of Rs. 5.25 crores and Rs. 5.75 crores, which is much better than some of the bigger films which have released in the post-pandemic world. One of the factors that went in its favour was that viewers were given the buy-one-get-one-ticket-free offer if they booked their tickets on the popular ticketing app, BookMyShow. Ever since the offer was introduced, a sudden spike was seen in ticket sales for the film.

Initially, the offer was valid only for Friday, that is, the day of release. But on Friday evening, the offer was extended till Sunday, June 4. As per the trade, this will pull more audiences to the cinemas for Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.

Interestingly, this offer is not the only reason that is attracting audiences to watch the comedy-drama. An official at a multiplex in Mumbai told Bollywood Hungama, “The buy-one-get-one-ticket-free offer can be availed only if one books tickets online. But we saw many viewers buying tickets from the counter where the offer isn’t valid. This shows that the viewers are coming to see the film not just due to the offer but also because they are genuinely interested in the product.”

A manager from another Mumbai multiplex remarked, “The makers have gone for normal pricing and not blockbuster pricing. On top of that, viewers got one ticket free through the offer. And even without the offer, the reasonable prices played a big role, especially when the other film of the week, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, has slightly inflated ticket rates. Also, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is a clean entertainer, targeted at families. The song ‘Phir Aur Kya Chahiye’ worked big time.”

He continued, “The IPL season is over and people want to come out for leisure and entertainment. Another factor is that there was no major Hindi release in May except The Kerala Story. Many haven’t seen a Hindi film in a long time on the big screen and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke ticked all boxes. It has come at the right time.”

Due to the BookMyShow offer and genuine interest to see the film, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is expected to have a healthy weekend. If it sustains in the weekdays, it can emerge as a surprise hit of the year.

Recently, talking about her line-up for the year, Singh revealed to Bollywood Hungama that she has three releases this year. She said, “I have two films which should release this year. One is I Love You which is a Jio Studios film; and another one is a commercial, singing-dancing kind of movie. There is a Tamil film which will release on Diwali which is called Ayalaan. We just released a poster. So, these three releases for the year.”

On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh will be seen alongside Kamal Haasan in Indian 2 and Pavail Gulati in I Love You.

The recently released trailer has created a wave of excitement among internet users, heightening their anticipation for the film. In the midst of these promotional efforts, Shahid opened up during an interview about his reluctance to let his children, Misha and Zain, witness his work. He candidly shared that his kids recently watched his film Jab We Met in theaters, marking the first time they experienced one of his movies.

Shahid told Instant Bollywood, “I don’t like them seeing me much. So, first day their first question was ‘Why do people come up to you?’ Because they hadn’t seen much of my work. Now, recently they just saw Jab We Met. It had come out in theatres. So, my mom took them to see it and Mira wanted them to go and see it. She was like ‘This is one film where you are not like hitting people and doing all this intense stuff. It is a family viewing kind of film, so I want them to go and see it’. So, that actually, I think the first film of mine that they saw.”

Jab We Met was released in 2007. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the romantic comedy featured Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles. The film received critical acclaim for its engaging storyline, strong performances, and memorable dialogues. It also became a commercial success, winning over the audience with its blend of romance, comedy, and emotional moments. To celebrate the spirit of love during the Valentine’s Day week, the movie was re-released in theatres, and the response from the audience was nothing short of ecstatic.

For the unversed, Mira Rajput and Shahid Kapoor tied the knot in the year 2015 through arranged marriage. They have since built a strong relationship and have become one of Bollywood’s most adored couples. Together, they have two children – a daughter named Misha Kapoor and a son named Zain Kapoor.

On the professional Shahid Kapoor was last seen in Raj & DK helmed web series Farzi that is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. He will be soon seen alongside Kriti Sanon in an untitled Maddock film. The poster of the film is out and is expected to release in October. Shahid also has Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bloody Daddy, which is set to release on JioCinema on June 9.
