Jawan: Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara give breezy romantic vibes in ‘Chaleya’, SRK shares teasers in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, watch

The craze of Jawan is continuously surging with every other asset, be it the action-packed prevue, character posters to its hit track ‘Zinda Banda‘. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara, the film promises an action-packed extravaganza to the fans this September. ‘Chaleya’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara is a soulful romantic number that is all set to drop tomorrow. The two actors will be seen paired together for the first time and their easy romantic camaraderie lights up the screen.

After teasing fans with a short motion poster yesterday, the makers of Jawan gave the audiences a glimpse into the romantic number with a teaser today, revealing an extended glimpse of the song that gives out a little bit more about the track. This vibe of SRK in a romantic track will be experienced by audiences after a long time! And fans can’t keep calm as the KING of romance is back with a full-fledged romantic song sung by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao. The track will release in two more languages, Tamil and Telugu.

Konkona Sen Sharma says her mother Aparna Sen didn’t let her watch Ramayan, Mahabharat in her formative years: “She said that the first exposure to these epics should not be someone else’s imagination”

Actor-director Konkona Sen Sharma, who recently directed the short film The Mirror in the anthology Lust Stories 2, was really appreciated for her work. While OTT has given a platform to many, the filmmaker-actress says that the content creators on the digital platforms are chasing stars.

In a chat with Film Companion, Konkona said, “More than talent, people who are putting in money, want stars. I can understand they are putting in money and they want to cover the bases, many stars are talented and perhaps some aren’t that much. Even for OTT, there is a move towards stars.”

Konkana agreed that now even the star system is taking place in the OTT space and added, “There is a lot of pressure to take stars. From my own part I can say, as an actor and also as a director, there is a lot of pressure to cast big stars.” The actress said that being a star won’t help on the platform if you don’t have the talent.

In the same conversation, she said that in her formative years, her mother Aparna Sen kept her away from watching anything mainstream from Hindi and Bengali cinemas. She wasn’t allowed to watch shows like The Bold and the Beautiful or Santa Barbara or Indian epics like Ramayan and Mahabharat. “Of course, a few slipped by, and I watched a few here and there, like Mr India and Masoom. Moreover, I wasn’t allowed to watch American soap operas like The Bold and the Beautiful or Santa Barbara, either.”

But, there was a reason to it. “I wasn’t allowed to watch Ramayan and Mahabharat either. She insisted that I read the epics first (before delving into the serialised versions). She said that the first exposure to these epics should not be someone else’s imagination; it should be a product of your own imagination. As a substitute, we explored a lot of global and regional cinema. Even when it came to books, during a phase of my childhood when I was exclusively reading Indian literature, she eventually stopped me and asked me to move on. And I was an obedient child,” Konkona added.

Meanwhile, Konkona Sen Sharma directed Lust Stories 2’s short film The Mirror which arrived on Netflix. On the other hand, her mother Aparna Sen’s recent directorial venture, The Rapist, which was headlined by her, premiered at the 26th Busan International Film Festival.

Pankaj Tripathi says his father isn’t too proud of his achievements: “He does not even know what and how I do in cinema”

Over the years, Pankaj Tripathi has garnered critical acclaim in the film industry through his performances. From his comic roles to emotional performances, he has come a long way. However, he says that his father isn’t fully aware of what he does or knows about his achievements. The OMG 2 actor recently said that even his mother doesn’t care much about his acting.

In an interview with Mashable, Tripathi revealed that his father visited Mumbai once for the housewarming ceremony of his first house. He said, “He is not attached to beautiful houses.”

He added, “He is not too proud of my achievements. My father does not even know what and how I do in cinema. To date, he has not seen how a movie theatre looks from the inside. He sees my work if someone shows him on their computer or on the television, which was recently installed at my house.”

Furthermore, talking about his mother, he added, “My mother watches me on TV and says ‘Call him and tell he has become very thin, he is not eating and sleeping properly.’ She does not focus on my acting.”

Meanwhile, Pankaj Tripathi is currently starring in OMG 2 alongside Akshay Kumar and Yami Gautam. It released on August 11, 2023. The film earned Rs. 10.26 crores on the opening day.

OMG 2 Box Office Estimate Day 2: Jumps by 47 percent on Sunday; collects Rs. 14.75 crores

The Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi film, OMG 2, has found appreciation from the audience as the film has shown a big jump in collections on Saturday. According to early estimates, OMG 2 has collected in the range of Rs. 14.25 to 15.25 crores, taking the two-day total collection to Rs. 25 crores. The platform is set for the film to explode on Sunday and hit an opening weekend of Rs. 40 crores.

While the business on opening day was driven by multiplexes, the second-day trend has been encouraging as even the non-national chains came on board in a big way for OMG 2. In fact, the film even faced capacity issues in a lot of places, and there will be a big spillover of audiences for the film over the coming week. It’s headed to become a clean hit and also a comeback for Akshay Kumar after 5 back-to-back flops.

It’s also a respite for the Hindi Film Industry to see another non-event film succeed after Satyaprem Ki Katha and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film is doing well despite an Adult Only Certificate and clash with Gadar 2, and with positive talk, it may be headed to enter the Rs. 100 crore club at the domestic box office.

OMG 2 is a sequel to Oh My God (2012) and it is reaping results similar to the original film, which has over the years become a cult.

Gadar 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol starrer exceeds expectations, opens at Rs. 40.10 crores

Gadar 2 has taken a record start at the box office, and has brought in the kind of collections that are unexpected, unimaginable and unprecedented. This is practically the first time ever when in a clash a film has opened so big and that too by a margin. Not just that, as the numbers are simply superb even if it were to be a solo release. Account for the non-holiday factor and Gadar 2 starts looking even bigger.

That’s right, there are a lot of records which Gadar 2 has already broken on its release day itself and there would be sheer mayhem right till August 15 at least when a lot of new records would be rewritten. That has been made possible by a start of Rs. 40.10 crores that the Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma film has taken at the box office on Friday. Even half of this would have been a great number, so one can well imagine how the film has gone beyond great already. In fact, the film now has all the chances to hit the Rs. 50 crores mark and one has to see whether it happens on Sunday or Tuesday (Independence Day holiday).

Sunny Deol was amongst the Top-3 Bollywood superstars for a large part of the 80s and the 90s, and then even early 2000s once Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released. However, post 2010 was a dull period for him when only Yamla Pagla Deewana turned out to be a big hit. Now the actor has shown this generation all over again what the star power is all about and it would be excellent to see him carry forward this huge feat even when he steps into the 70s, something that no Bollywood actor has ever achieved before.

Ali Sethi breaks his silence on marriage rumours to artist Salman Toor: “I don’t know who started the rumour”

Pakistani singer Ali Sethi, who garnered global popularity with his song ‘Pasoori’, made headlines in the last couple of days over his rumoured marriage to Pakistani-American painter Salman Toor. Social media was abuzz that the singer got married in an intimate ceremony to the artist in New York in the presence of close people. However, Sethi has now rubbished those reports and claimed that he has no idea who started the rumours.

On Saturday morning, Sethi took to his Instagram stories and clarified that he is not married. “I am not married, I don’t know who started the rumour,” he wrote. For years, Sethi has been linked to Toor but they have never confirmed their relationship.

Earlier in 2023, when Ali Sethi performed at Coachella, the singer was labelled as queer by the publication. In that interview, he said, “I think what I’ve always been trying to do is find this place of reconciliation. Because growing up I was told ‘You’re either this or that.’ I just rejected that.”

Reportedly, Sethi and Toor met in an art class at Aitchison College in Lahore and have remained friends for several years. “He (Salman Toor) was the most vulnerable one, because he didn’t have any defense mechanisms. I was the tallest person in the class, I was a teacher-pleaser, but Salman was guileless. When boys made fun of him, he couldn’t fight back,” Sethi told The New Yorker in 2022.

On the work front, Ali Sethi, back in June 2023, gave the rights of his song ‘Pasoori’ to the makers of Satyaprem Ki Katha for the recreation ‘Pasoori Nu’. The Pakistani Punjabi song was crooned by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill for Coke Studio Pakistan. The new version has been sung by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar. The music is by Rochak Kohli and Ali Sethi. The lyrics of the song are by Gurpreet Saini and Ali Sethi.

Ali Sethi had a tremendous 2022 following ‘Pasoori’ with Shae Gill, which led them to unprecedented stardom. The song was the most searched song of 2022 on Google. He has several hits under his belt including ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’, ‘Chan Kithan’, ‘Ishq’, ‘Chandni Raat’ among others. He recently released his new EP ‘Paniya’.

VD 18: Varun Dhawan gets injured a day after he begins shooting for Atlee’s next

Cine1 Studios and A For Apple Studios have come together for Varun Dhawan’s next with filmmaker Atlee Kumar. The film promises to be an adrenaline-pumping action spectacle. The actor began shooting for the film earlier this week and sustained an injury a day after the shoot.

Varun Dhawan took to his Instagram story to share a photo of the elbow on his left arm that had a red bruise. He wrote in the caption, “No pain, no gain. VD18.”

Penned and helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Kalees, the movie is set to be a high-octane rollercoaster ride filled with thrilling moments and larger-than-life action sequences. The project will be jointly produced by Murad Khetani and Priya Atlee.

While the title of the film is yet to be revealed, VD 18 is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on May 31, 2024.

On the work front, Varun was last seen last month in the romantic drama Bawaal. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film saw Janhvi Kapoor star opposite him. The movie was directly released on Prime Video.

Meanwhile, Atlee Kumar is busy with the post-production work on Jawan starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. The film is set for September 7, 2023 release in theatres.
