Vijay Deverakonda discusses action genre and Liger with Dulquer Salmaan; says, “I hope your film does better than mine”

In what seems to be two legends in one frame sort of moment, we saw Mahanati co-stars Vijay Deverakonda and Dulquer Salmaan hanging out with each other in Hyderabad. In a video posted by Vijay in his YouTube channel, the actor revealed that he bumped into Dulquer while the two were promoting their respective films, Kushi and King Of Kotha in Hyderabad. During the same, the two of them also discussed about how they have switched genres wherein Vijay hoped that his friend and costar’s action film will get a better response than his Liger.

During the conversation, Dulquer Salmaan and Vijay Deverakonda pointed out to each other about exchanging genres. While DQ mentioned how VD switched from action to romance, i.e. Liger to Kushi, the latter revealed how his Mahanati co-star did the opposite. For the unversed, Dulquer was last seen in the romantic drama Sita Ramam. As they discussed about exploring with genres, Vijay added, “I hope your film does better than mine”. For the unversed, Liger marked the debut of Vijay in Hindi films but the film failed to make a mark at the box office, despite it being produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

While the comment left Dulquer in splits, he responded to Deverakonda adding, “I hope your love story blows up like mine”, referring to the extensive success Sita Ramam tasted. The film marked the debut of Mrunal Thakur in South and also featured Rashmika Mandanna in a unique role. Furthermore, DQ also went on to express his gratitude towards Vijay and his Kushi co-star Samantha Ruth Prabhu for doing his Telugu debut film Mahanati in which the two featured in an extended cameo.

Coming to King of Kotha, the film marks the directorial debut of Abhilash Joshiy and is slated for release on August 24 in multiple languages including Hindi. On the other hand, Kushi, also featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Vijay’s love interest, is slated for release on September 1 in many languages including Hindi.

Trade experts disagree that the Gadar 2 wave will affect Jawan: “There’s a HUGE craze for Shah Rukh Khan after Pathaan. And we all know that he has an INSANE fan following”

Gadar 2 has emerged as a blockbuster in no time. It opened at Rs. 40.10 crores and continued to remain strong in the subsequent days. With Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film Jawan releasing on September 7, a section of netizens concluded that it’ll get affected due to the Gadar 2 wave. We asked trade experts their views on this topic.

Everyone refused to believe this notion. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “I feel Jawan is very much safe. It’s a giant and you can’t underestimate it. Shah Rukh Khan after Pathaan (2023) is another beast altogether. So, let’s not write off this film.”

He added, “Jawan will also take a fantastic start. Shah Rukh knows that right now, Gadar 2 is going to be talked about. He would not like to promote his film at this stage. Eventually, he’ll come back on track.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan agreed, “Every film has its own destiny. Jawan will come 4 weeks after Gadar 2. There’s a different anticipation for Jawan. Also, there’s a huge craze for Shah Rukh Khan after Pathaan. And we all know that he has an insane fan following.”

He continued, “Also, the South directors, actors etc also have their fan base. If Anirudh composes songs in a film, then ‘An Anirudh Musical’ is always mentioned on the posters, that too in bold letters. He’s a huge draw down South. Atlee, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, too, have their own following. Vijay Sethupathi is big after Farzi among Hindi audiences. So, one can see that Jawan is very well packaged.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, expressed surprise with the comparisons, “While watching Gadar 2, were you comparing it with Pathaan? Then why are Gadar 2 and Jawan being compared? This is stupidity. 4 weeks are left for Jawan to release. By the time it releases, Gadar 2’s run would have been exhausted. Jawan is a different film. Audiences would definitely love to catch it in cinemas like they did for Pathaan and Gadar 2.”

He, however, also said, “I feel the songs have been underwhelming. It’s high time we get a chartbuster song from Jawan, a kind of song that plays everywhere. This happened in Pathaan. I hope it happens for Jawan as well.”

Atul Mohan disagreed, “Music is not poor. If you ask me, I’d prefer to release the hit song at the very end, just before the release. Average songs take time to grow. Unko pehle chhod dena chahiye. People have now started liking ‘Zinda Banda’.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, predicted, “Jawan will open very well. It is expected to open at Rs. 50-55 crores. After that, it’ll depend on the content. It’s ridiculous to assume that just because Gadar 2 has worked big time, Jawan will get affected. I don’t agree with it at all. Jawan would have got affected had it come a week after Gadar 2.”

Girish Johar signed off by observing that it’s heartening that so many exciting films are releasing almost every month, “The habit of coming back to cinemas repeatedly is an encouraging sign. This is what we wanted after the pandemic.”

EXCLUSIVE: Kanika Dhillon signs three-film deal with Shashanka Chaturvedi to be produced under Kathha Pictures

Just yesterday, we had reported that the Netflix original film Do Patti produced by Kanika Dhillon under her banner Kathha Pictures would be helmed by Shashanka Chaturvedi. Now we hear that the film starring Kajol and Kriti Sanon will in fact, mark the first venture of a three-film deal between Dhillon and Chaturvedi.

Revealing details, a well-placed industry source reveals that while Do Patti will be a Netflix Original Film, the other two ventures are yet to be announced, “Do Patti is a suspense-thriller and will mark the start of a three-film collaboration between Kanika Dhillon and Shashanka Chaturvedi. While the film went into production yesterday, the other two ventures are yet to be announced. An official announcement of the deal will be made soon, wherein the other two projects will be revealed”.

For the uninitiated, Shashanka Chaturvedi aka BOB has done some remarkable work over two decades and has made a significate impact in filmmaking in India. Co-founder of Good Morning Films, BOB gained international; recognition in 2009 by securing the first two Gold Lions for India at the Cannes Film Festival. His expertise has earned him numerous awards, including D&AD, Grand Prix in Spikes Asia, One Show, Kyoorius, and Campaign India Awards, among others. He has also worked with renowned brands and directed over 100 commercials in India.

In a past report, speaking about her collaboration with BOB Kanika had said, “As I step into the shoes of the producer, having a credible director like BOB on board is the beginning of this exciting journey for Kathha Pictures.” Further talking about their maiden production venture, Do Patti Kanika added, “The film not only has celebrated actors like Kajol and Kriti Sanon, but also a trustworthy and reliable director like BOB. Cannot wait for everyone to see the magic he creates on this film!”

Similarly, BOB had nothing but praise for Kanika saying, “Kanika’s stories have always made me want to think and wonder if I can be a part of her vision, so this is going to be a special collaboration with her and Kathha pictures. I feel both humbled and excited to be one of the first collaborators with Kathha Pictures, and Netflix alongside the Industry’s best of the best talent- the legendary Kajol and the fabulous Kriti Sanon.”

As for their maiden production, Do Patti is a suspense-thriller produced by Kanika Dhillon and Kriti Sanon, starring Kajol and Kriti Sanon. The film will release on streaming giant Netflix.

Shilpa Shetty reviews Sushmita Sen’s Taali; says, “You were just brilliant Sush!”

In a remarkable turn of events, Sushmita Sen has been garnering widespread acclaim for her outstanding portrayal of Shree Gauri Sawant in the gripping web series Taali. The series, which delves into the life of the courageous transgender activist, has resonated with viewers and even caught the attention of fellow Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who expressed her admiration in an Instagram video.

Shetty took to social media to share her thoughts about the show, posting a video where she gave claps and exclaimed, “Waah, waah, waah. I started the video by doing this (slow clapping). Kyunki main jitna bhi bolungi woh Kam hi padega iss show ke liye. Kaunsa show? Taali! (Laughs). I just binged watched the entire season and I have to say that it is one of the most thought-provoking shows.” Having binge-watched the entire season, Shilpa was profoundly moved, stating that it stands as one of the most thought-provoking shows she has encountered.

Expressing her emotional connection with the series, Shilpa remarked, “Main bhaut emotional bhi hui. Taali, you know, talks about the life of Shreegauri Sawant, a transgender activist jinhone India ke third gender ke rights aur recognition ke liye ladai ladi thi. A community whose voice cannot be suppressed anymore. The narrative, its really intense, making you question so much. Gauri’s fight is the story to be told, heard and celebrated.”

Shilpa goes on to shower praise upon Sushmita Sen’s remarkable performance, concluding the video with heartfelt applause. She commended Sushmita, saying, “And Sushmita ke baare mein main kya kahun. You were just brilliant Sush! You embraced the role so effortlessly and you shine so bright, doing complete justice to the story. A big Taali for you! (Claps and laughs).”
