Ask SRK: Shah Rukh Khan gives apt response after being asked about real advance bookings vs corporate bookings of Jawan: “Yeh social media waali ghatia baatein mat karo yaar”

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited action entertainer Jawan has created the right noise amongst the masses. With only three days remaining for its release in the theatres, the superstar hosted a Q&A session on Sunday amid the much anticipation around the movie. During the #AskSRK session, an X user, formerly Twitter, asked about the corporate booking and the actual advance bookings for the film. However, SRK had an apt response.

The actor was asked, “#Jawan ka kitna booking cooperate hai aur kitna real (how much of the Jawan advance booking numbers are real and how much is fake)? #AskSRK.”

Shah Rukh Khan, in his witty way, responded, “Yeh social media waali ghatia baatein mat karo yaar (Don’t do social media type rubbish talks). Have positive thoughts and good feelings for all. Better for life.”

As per the earlier report, 1,00,000 tickets are blocked by brands for the holiday period, which will be distributed among their privileged consumers. Meanwhile, as per a Bollywood Hungama report, the film had sold as many as 222,500 tickets in India’s two biggest national multiplex chains for the first day alone until 7 PM on Sunday, September 3. As per the update Jawan has seen sales of 183,500 tickets across PVR + INOX and a further 39,000 tickets being sold across Cinepolis theatres. Interestingly, these sales are just for the film’s opening day, Thursday September 7.

Jawan is a Red Chillies Entertainment presentation directed by Atlee, produced by Gauri Khan, and co-produced by Gaurav Verma. The film will be released worldwide in theatres on September 7th, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.

Ameesha Patel reveals Kareena Kapoor was asked to leave from Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai; says, “She didn’t back out”

Following the resounding success of Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel has been making headlines with her candid interviews, where she doesn’t shy away from addressing the past and sharing intriguing insights. After previously revealing that her relationship with Gadar director Anil Sharma was less than harmonious, she has now dropped another bombshell, this time concerning Kareena Kapoor and her debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.

It’s a well-known fact that Kareena Kapoor was initially cast opposite Hrithik Roshan in the romantic drama Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, which marked Hrithik’s debut in Bollywood. However, Ameesha Patel ultimately stepped into the role and made her own debut alongside Hrithik in the blockbuster 2001 film. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ameesha offered a fresh perspective on Kareena’s exit from the film. Contrary to the common belief that Kareena Kapoor backed out from KNPH, Ameesha Patel disclosed that it was director Rakesh Roshan who made the decision for Kareena to leave the project. She explained, “Actually, she didn’t back out. From what Rakesh ji told me, he asked her to leave the film because they were having differences.”

The departure of Kareena Kapoor left the production team in a state of shock, considering significant investments had been made, sets were ready, and a replacement for the character Sonia needed to be found within just three days. Ameesha Patel recounted the challenges faced at the time, particularly since KNPH marked Hrithik Roshan’s debut, creating immense pressure for the entire team. Ameesha further revealed that Rakesh Roshan had noticed her at a wedding, which ultimately led to her being cast in the pivotal role. She said, “Pinky aunty told me that the day Rakesh saw me at the wedding, he did not sleep all night. He was like ‘I got my Sonia, I got my Sonia, but I hope she says yes’.” Ameesha cherished the memory of working with Rakesh Roshan during the making of KNPH, as he frequently praised her dedication and professionalism, referring to her as a “blessing in disguise.”

Ameesha Patel is currently relishing the triumph of Gadar 2, which has amassed an impressive box office collection of close to 500 crore rupees. Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor is gearing up for her upcoming appearance in the Netflix thriller titled Jaane Jaan.

The Nun II STRUGGLES to get screens as theatres prefer to allot almost all shows to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan

The industry, trade and moviegoers are gearing up for the release of Jawan, starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The social media and entertainment news websites are regularly reporting about the insane ticket sales and it has further enhanced the excitement for the action entertainer. However, Jawan is not the only major release on September 7. The Nun II will also arrive in theatres on the same day. With Jawan getting an unprecedented response from the advance ticket sales, the Hollywood horror film is finding it very tough to get screens.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Warner Bros team is in constant touch with the multiplex chain and other theatres. They are aware that Jawan is a very big opposition. Hence, they are asking for limited shows. Even then, many theatre owners don’t seem interested.”

The source continued, “Warner Bros was one of the first ones to release films in cinemas in 2020 when most producers preferred to wait for normalcy or released their films directly on OTT. This was a time when the studio released not just big-ticket films like Tenet (2020) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) but also smaller films. It was done in the larger interest of the theatres so that they have content to play and the habit of watching films in cinemas is re-cultivated among audiences. And now, the theatres are showing their back to the same studio that supported them in tough times.”

The source also added, “And it’s not like The Nun II will not find an audience. It’s a huge franchise. The previous part, The Nun (2018), collected Rs. 8 crores on day 1 and had lifetime earnings of Rs. 46.46 crores. The Nun II can also have healthy collections if it’s given a chance. Just last month, the monstrous blockbuster Gadar 2 set the box office on fire. But it wasn’t the only release. OMG 2 was also released on the same day and did huge business. Similarly, Evil Dead Rise, also backed by Warner Bros, clashed with Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on Eid 2023 and collected Rs. 36.50 crores. The same model can be successfully applied with Jawan and The Nun II as well.”

An exhibitor on condition of anonymity said, “The single-screens have no choice but to play Jawan, looking at the response. The multiplexes should release The Nun II. But theatres with two or three screens will find it hard to do so as they also have to accommodate holdover releases like Gadar 2, OMG 2 and Dream Girl 2, all of which are still doing well.”

Another source said, “The Nun II will be able to get a minimum of 1000 screens. Things will be resolved in a few days.” The horror film releases not just in English but also in dubbed Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions.

Meanwhile, there are chances that Warner Bros will release Barbie in IMAX in India on September 22. The blockbuster film will be released with extra footage.

Anil Sharma aspires to submit Gadar 2 for the Oscars; says, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha also deserved it”

Renowned filmmaker Anil Sharma has expressed his aspiration to submit his recent cinematic endeavour, Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, for consideration at the prestigious Oscars. In a recent interview, Sharma revealed that he has been receiving persistent requests from individuals who believe that the film deserves a shot at the coveted international recognition.

Sharma conveyed his thoughts to The Indian Express, stating, “People are calling me repeatedly to send the film to the Oscars.” However, he also acknowledged the historical context, explaining, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) didn’t go, so I don’t know how Gadar 2 will go, but we are at it. But Gadar 2 should go; the film deserves it. Gadar also deserved it. Gadar was based on the 1947 partition, and we told the story in a very different way. It was a new and original story, and Gadar 2 is also a new and original story.”

During the same interview, the filmmaker emphasized his four-decade-long commitment to the craft of filmmaking. He stated, “I have been making films for forty years. It could turn out good or bad, but I made my films the way my heart feels. When people show love (to my films), I really feel happy. When they don’t, I feel sad because I made films for the audience. I then work towards fixing the mistakes we did with the films that didn’t do well because the audience is never wrong, the maker is.”

Gadar 2 stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma and is directed by Anil Sharma. Produced by Zee Studios, the film has garnered attention for its box office success and the dynamics surrounding its production and characters.
