Tahir Raj Bhasin opens up on working with best directors in film industry; says, “My acting is my only calling card because I don’t have anyone backing me”

Tahir Raj Bhasin is gearing up for the release of the period web series, Sultan of Delhi, helmed by director Milan Luthria in which he will be seen in a different role. Tahir will be donning the character of a gangster, a glimpse of which we got in the trailer. Interestingly, this is the first time he will be portraying such a role, which is starkly different from the characters and roles he has essayed over the years.

Tahir Raj Bhasin opens up on working with best directors in film industry; says, “My acting is my only calling card because I don’t have anyone backing me”

In his decade long career, Tahir has worked with some of the best directors from the industry and the actor is extremely overwhelmed to have gotten a chance to collaborate with such big names. Tahir Raj Bhasin said, “Every actor wants to work with the best of the best minds, directors who have a disruptive cinematic vision. I have been fortunate to have collaborated with some of the best film-makers of our country and helmed their projects. It is a huge validation for me that directors like the Late Pradeep Sarkar, Nitesh Tiwari, Kabir Khan, Nandita Das and now Milan Luthria, have chosen me to be a part of their vision. To be your best you have to work with the best.”

He added, “Great directors push you out of your comfort zone and that often leads to the magic. I have always tried to be an actor who the biggest directors can count on to deliver a powerful performance on screen. I have worked very hard to achieve this and always aim to get better with each project and work with directors from across the country. My acting is my only calling card because I don’t have anyone backing me. Making it on one’s own merit has a different high and I can only count on my talent to make me realise my goals.”

Speaking of Sultan of Delhi, it is produced by Reliance Entertainment and co-directed as well as co-written by Suparn Verma along with Milan Luthria. It also marks the latter’s OTT directorial debut. The series stars Anjum Sharma, veteran actor Vinay Pathak alongside Nishant Dahiya along with Tahir Raj Bhasin and the leading ladies include Anupriya Goenka, Mouni Roy, Harleen Sethi and Mehreen Pirzada. Sultan of Delhi is set to stream on October 13 onwards, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.

Shakti Kapoor recalls “begging” to his wife Shivangi to sacrifice her acting career: “I went to her and begged that don’t work”

In a candid revelation on the ‘Timeout with Ankit’ podcast, veteran Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor recently shared the heartwarming story of his love life and how his wife, Shivangi Kolhapure, made a significant sacrifice for their relationship.

Shakti Kapoor recalls “begging” to his wife Shivangi to sacrifice her acting career: “I went to her and begged that don’t work”

Shakti Kapoor shared that their love story began on the sets of a film, where Shivangi was working as a child artist. Despite being 12 years younger than Shakti Kapoor, she was an ardent fan of his. They first crossed paths when she took photos with him on set, and destiny played its part in bringing them together.

Kapoor reminisced, “Then we met and fell in love. I realized I would not find such a beautiful and homely girl elsewhere. That’s how we started seeing each other.” However, the intensity of their love initially distracted Kapoor from his work, causing him to fear that it might negatively impact his career. He decided to communicate his concerns to Shivangi, which left her furious. In response, she accepted an offer to act in Sawan Kumar Tak’s film, Laila.

This decision created turmoil in Kapoor’s life, as he humorously recalled, “Meri halaat kharab hogayi (I was worried), as I was the Majnu in her life.” He added, “I went to her and begged that don’t work. I want you as a housewife.”

Shakti continued, “It’s been 40 years with her. She gave up her career for me. I still fold my hands in front of her. I got married at the peak of my career, and she brought me more luck and prosperity. We then had a son and daughter, and built our own family.”

Their love story culminated in a court marriage in 1982, as their parents had not yet accepted their relationship due to cultural differences. It wasn’t until the birth of their son that Shivangi’s parents finally embraced their relationship. Over the course of 40 years of marriage, Shakti and Shivangi built a loving family, which includes their son Siddhant and daughter Shraddha Kapoor, both of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps as actors.
