Lionsgate partners with Dharma Productions and Sikya Entertainment to acquire North American and UK rights of the film Kill

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B) has acquired the North American and U.K. rights to the Indian action movie Kill which is slated for theatrical release in 2024. Speaking of the film, Kill is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor & Achin Jain for Sikhya Entertainment. Starring newcomer Lakshya alongside Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala, the full-fledged action flick made its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival as a Midnight Madness selection.

This groundbreaking deal marks the first time wherein an Indian production has partnered with a Hollywood studio on a theatrical release in North America and the U.K. for a mainstream Hindi language film. In the film, star-crossed lovers Tulika (Maniktala) and Amrit (Lakshya) find their clandestine relationship jeopardized after Tulika’s family whisks her aboard the Rajdhani Express bound for New Delhi for an arranged marriage. But commandos, Amrit and his friend are far from willing to let fate dictate their story. They embark on a “rescue” mission that becomes a gory adventure. Blurring the lines between duty and emotion as every twist of the track could mean life or death, Kill is expected to paint a portrait of how far a man can go in love to rewrite his destiny.

“American audiences have become more open than ever to bold filmmaking from all corners of the world. We were astounded by Kill and dazzled by the artistry of director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat,” said Lauren Bixby, senior vice president, Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “We’re confident that Kill will find an audience ready to delight in this film’s exuberant mayhem.”

WME Independent, which is handling global sales, brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers alongside Christopher Davis and Kaycee Holcomb for Lionsgate.

Ananya Panday shares glimpses of her Maldivian birthday celebrations

While the social media of Ananya Panday was abuzz with birthday wishes, the actress was not in the country to ring in her 25th birthday. The actress was spotted at the Mumbai airport a couple of days ago, taking off for a Maldives vacation to ring in her special day and it is being said that Aditya Roy Kapur has accompanied her. The speculations got stronger when The Night Manager actor too was seen at the airport. Now giving a glimpse of her Maldivian birthday celebration, Ananya shared a gratitude post on her social media handle.

Ananya Panday, who had earlier posted a photo of her breakfast in Maldives, took to Instagram to now share a series of photos from her birthday celebrations in the picturesque island on October 30. Later in the day, after the actress thanked all her friends and close ones for wishing her on her special day, Panday took to the platform to share her beachy look from her special day where she is seen sporting a colourful maxy dress and exploring the beautiful resort. Apart from that, there are also pictures of her enjoying a candlelight dinner, listening to local music, watching a movie, and having a cake cutting ceremony. The actress refrained from sharing details of who has accompanied her on this trip. On the other hand, Ananya also gave a glimpse of the beautiful overwater villa she is staying in for the occasion.

She captioned it saying, “25!!!!! ?????? Filled with so much gratitude and food and sunshine ?? thank you thank you thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu for all the love and good vibes ?? also I saw three rainbows the day before my birthday and I feel like it’s a sign” and along with that she also shared several emoticons including the ‘rainbow’ and ‘sun’ emojis.

Kartik Aaryan clarifies that the video of him promoting Congress election campaign in Madhya Pradesh is morphed; posts original ad

If you happen to stumble upon an unverified video of Kartik Aaryan supporting Congress candidate Kamal Nath in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, well stop and watch again. In a bizarre turn of events, Kartik Aaryan found himself endorsing a politician, which he did not even know about. A video of the Satyaprem Ki Katha star found its way online wherein he was seen endorsing a Congress election campaign for the state of Madhya Pradesh. The video obviously left his team and fans perplexed. While sources close to the actor asserted that it is a morphed video, Kartik took to social media to share the original video wherein he is seen endorsing an OTT streaming platform.

Soon after the video gained momentum, sources close to the actor were quick to point out the clear use of editing and revealed about the existing ad campaign being morphed and wrongfully used by people for fulfilling their own purpose. The source shared, “There is a morphed version of a Kartik Aaryan ad floating on social media that the actor had done for a streaming platform. The video is misleading and mischievous and is being used to claim political affiliations on behalf of the actor. Kartik has no such affiliations with any political group whatsoever.” The source also added about how the video has been morphed and edited slyly, so as to make it look so, whereas the video was shot and released as a promo for a leading OTT Platform.

Not ending at that, Kartik Aaryn too took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and reposted the original advertisement wherein he featured as the brand ambassador for Disney+ Hotstar.

For the unversed, Kartik featured in a promo video made for a leading OTT Platform around the free availability of the ICC Men’s World Cup on mobile phones on the platform, which had released about a month ago. Later, on October 30, the same video surfaced on social media but with a dubbed audio, and morphed video wherein it looked like Kartik is endorsing the political party for the upcoming elections in Madhya Pradesh. The video was shared by an unverified handle of a Congress party man.

“I had styled myself in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo,” says Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor’s influence on the fashion landscape in India is undisputed. She realised that when she styled herself in her blockbuster Prem Ratan Dhan Payo! Sonam reveals, “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was a film which reached the length and breadth of India! It was one of my films which worked very, very well and Anamika had done all the clothes that I had worn. I had styled myself in the film; the western wear was what I had picked up, but all my Indian wear was designed by Anamika Khanna.”

Sonam adds, “I remember going to a couple of weddings and I saw a lot of girls wearing the same clothes, and I thought that was wonderful. I realised that is the power of cinema. I didn’t understand it initially and Sooraj ji (Barjatya) told me that there was this green sari that Madhuri (Dixit) had worn in one of his films and the lilac and yellow sari which Amrita (Rao) had worn and these outfits had really worked.”

She further says, “Sooraj ji was like, ‘these are the colours that I want, and you will see that it will work’. In my late 20’s, a lot of my friends were getting married at that time and I was going for these weddings and I saw a lot of them wearing these same Anamika outfits that I wore in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and I found that so amazing and felt so happy and proud!”

Sonam is also an entrepreneur who is heavily invested in fashion through her business ventures like Rheason and Bhaane. She says she has never followed any handbook on fashion to become the style icon that she is today. The actor says, “I am a Gemini, so every time I wake up in the morning, I feel I have a different mood everyday and I am a different person everyday. And I think the one way we can express ourselves is through what we wear. I feel, like anybody you see with whatever they wear, we can tell who they are, as people. It is one form of expression.”

On the work front, Sonam Kapoor will be seen in two tentpole projects starting next year, one being Battle For Bittora and the other has been kept under wraps.

Priyanka Chopra says people cautioned her for Fashion: “Ladkiyan female-oriented films career ke end mein karti hai”

Priyanka Chopra arrived in India over the weekend for the opening ceremony of the Jio MAMI Film Festival 2023. On Sunday, she was a part of a masterclass alongside Bhumi Pednekar where she talked about her film Fashion which gave her a huge boost in her career. However, she was told not to do female female-oriented projects at the time.

Priyanka Chopra said, “Before Krrish and Aitraaz, it was always there, ‘Oh my God, what’s the next (movie) one I’m going to do? What is the opportunity that is going to come to me?’ I picked from what came to me. After Aitraaz and Krrish, I had done work which gave me a solid foundation. I got critical acclaim. I had people telling me ‘I know my job’, even though I didn’t know I knew my job. That is when I started seeking work that would challenge me.”

She added, “I took the decision of signing Fashion right after Krrish, and at that time I was told, ‘Ladkiyan (leading actress) female-oriented films career ke end mein karti hai, National Award ke liye. You have just done Krrish, Aitraaz, female-oriented films kyun kar rahe ho?’ Uss zamane mein itna hota bhi nahi tha (Girls do female-oriented films at the end of their career, for National Award. You have just done Krrish, Aitraaz, female-oriented films, why are you doing this?’ This did not even happen in those times).”

She said that she had loved Madhur Bhandarkar’s vision and the script. She called it a ‘passion project’ which went on to become a huge part of her career and won her a National Award.

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra was last seen in Citadel season 1 on Prime Video, which has been renewed for season 2 and Love Again movie. She has signed an action thriller Heads of State starring John Cena and Idris Elba.

Karan Johar reacts to Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh getting trolled for Koffee With Karan 8 episode: “You are landing nowhere”

Filmmaker Karan Johar is back as the host or Hotstar Specials’ Koffee With Karan for season 8. The premiere episode of the new season saw the presence of star-couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who came together for the first time on the Koffee couch, spilling the beans on their marriage, proposal, sharing the first glimpse of their wedding and more. However, soon after, the two were being trolled for their relationship, their past, Ranveer’s failures and more. Karan Johar has now reacted to the trolls who were being vile towards the pair.

During an Instagram live session over the weekend, Karan Johar said, “Do what you need to do because no one’s looking,” The director added, “Trolling gets you nowhere. You are landing nowhere.”

In the episode, Deepika talked about her relationships and said, “I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said, ‘I just don’t want to be attached, don’t want to be committed.’ And I had fun. And then he comes along, so I didn’t ‘commit commit’, until he proposed to me. There was no ‘commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other.”
