Park Hyung Sik Special: From Strong Girl Bong Soon to Happiness, 5 K-dramas of the heartthrob that showcases his versatility

Ask any K-drama veteran viewer what was one of their earlier dramas, and The Heirs is bound to be one on the list. That K-drama is like a milestone on your K-drama watching journey. The story has been memorable for most of us for it introduced us to a great ensemble cast which went on to become fan favourite. One of the supporting but prominent cast members from The Heirs is Jo Myung Soo played by Park Hyung Sik. The latter gained new popularity within the K-drama community after The Heirs. This former singer turned actor made a mark for himself as a versatile actor. In the coming years, we saw Park Hyung Sik in different roles which cemented his reputation as an actor of many talents. On the occasion of his birthday today on November 16, let’s take a look at some of his memorable roles.

Park Hyung Sik Special: From Strong Girl Bong Soon to Happiness, 5 K-dramas of the heartthrob that showcases his versatility

1. OUR BLOOMING YOUTH
One of the first dramas of 2023, Our Blooming Youth saw Park Hyung Sik come back to the historical romance genre. With this drama, he showed the softer charms as a romance drama main lead and also showed what makes an admirable crown prince. After Jae Yi is falsely branded as a criminal, she finds help in the crown prince Lee Hwan. Together they navigate their personal obstacles as romance blooms between them.

2. HWARANG
Hwarang might not have fared well but those who like the Wooga squad’s friendship will have definitely watched “Hwarang”. This historical drama had its good moments despite its scant popularity and shaky plotline.
3. Soundtrack #1
Looking for something short and sweet to watch that feels like a warm hug? Then Soundtrack #1 is a good choice. This four-episode K-drama was one of Park Hyung Sik’s anticipated dramas of 2022. His and Han So Hee’s pairing was unexpected but quite refreshing to see on screen.
4. STRONG GIRL BONG SOON
You can simply not forget to mention MinMin when talking about Park Hyung Sik’s memorable roles. Strong Girl Bong Soon is that drama that gave a lot of us rom-com lovers a few couple goals as well as a new fictional crush. Hyung Sik’s Ahn Min Hyuk is undoubtedly one of the progressive male leads in recent years. His childish antics, sheer dedication towards his lady love and his jovial nature are bound to make anyone like him instantly! He reprised the same role, 6 years later, in the sequel Strong Girl Nam Soon alongside Park Bo Young who played the lead role.
5.HAPPINESS
If you have recently joined the K-drama wagon, then you must have heard of “Happiness”. This was Park Hyung Sik’s first drama after he was discharged from the military, so the fans were eagerly looking forward to seeing him back on screen. Unconventional when it comes to the romance aspect, but quite the one setting some goals. Park Hyung Sik and Han Hyo Joo’s chemistry was well noted. Their character arcs along with the story development made “Happiness” one of the most promising dramas of 2021.

Koffee With Karan 8: Alia Bhatt reacts to Ranbir Kapoor being labelled as ‘toxic’ after lipstick remark: “There is a line being crossed but…”

This time on Koffee With Karan season 8, two reigning queens of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt are ready to set the couch on fire! From glamorous superstars to doting mothers, these leading ladies are simply unstoppable. During the conversation, Alia Bhatt talked about the perception the internet has about Ranbir Kapoor being a ‘toxic’ husband. In recent times, the actress has shared several anecdotes including one about him asking her to wipe her lipstick off as her natural lips look good and it being taken as Ranbir being a controlling husband. The actress said that he is genuinely the opposite of what people think of him.

Koffee With Karan 8: Alia Bhatt reacts to Ranbir Kapoor being labelled as ‘toxic’ after lipstick remark: “There is a line being crossed but…”

“I’ve been accused of talking too much about Ranbir,” Alia said on Koffee With Karan. “Anything you say about him becomes like an explosion online,” KJo said, and added, “Is it because Ranbir is not on social media?” Kareena Kapoor Khan agreed and so did Alia.

She continued, “I think so. I have a very candid way of speaking and even when I’m talking about something in my life, I like to imitate the person I’m talking about, I like to give anecdotes, I like to make it personal and I feel like a lot of the things just get picked out of context. Which happened recently with a video and stuff like that. My team told me yeh kuch out of hand jaa raha hain (this is getting out of hand) and I said OK theek hai, jaane do because genuinely people say things all the time.”

“But then I realized there are serious articles talking about how he’s a toxic man and this and that and I’m like, are we serious? There are many issues in the world to give more attention toward than something I said in a completely different context. And I feel bad if people misunderstand it because he’s genuinely the opposite of that,” said Alia.

“There is a line I feel is being crossed but you can’t say anything about it, people can say what they want about you. In fact, Ranbir says this, ‘Alia the audience owns you, they can say what the hell they want about you. As long as your movies are doing well, please do not complain sitting in your apartment in Bandra.’ I was like, ya that’s right, kuch mat bolo (don’t say anything),” Alia Bhatt added.

On the work front, Alia Bhatt is currently shooting for Jigra with Vasan Bala. This is her second co-production.

Tiger 3 Box Office: Becomes 2nd biggest weekend/first three days’ opener in YRF spy universe

Yash Raj Films can well be assured that their spy universe will continue to grow and flourish. If the response so far to Tiger 3 is any indication, then War 2 is already on a solid footing and when Tiger vs Pathaan comes, then it would be on an altogether different level.

Tiger 3 Box Office: Becomes 2nd biggest weekend/first three days’ opener in YRF spy universe

However, before that let’s talk about Tiger 3 first. The film has scored quite heavily in its first three days so far, even without a conventional weekend and in the process has gone past the weekend score of 2017 release Tiger Zinda Hai. It’s good to see the Tiger franchise growing and it also pretty much confirms that Tiger 4 would now be in the making as well.

The film which still occupies the top slot is Pathaan and to think of it, when it comes to the Pathaan franchise, then it’s the first one in the list. Hence, from debut perspective it has already done well enough, though one can’t deny the fact that Salman Khan’s contribution as Tiger pushed forward its case by a huge distance, just like Shah Rukh Khan’s entry in Tiger 3 did for the Salman Khan. In that sense, War was pretty much a standalone film as it was not just the first in the War franchise but also came sans any support from the ‘spy universe’.

This is how the weekend/first three days’ numbers of the spy universe offerings from YRF look like:

Pathaan – Rs. 166.75 crores

Tiger 3 – Rs. 143.75 crores*

Tiger Zinda Hai – Rs. 114.93 crores

War – Rs. 100.15 crores

Ek Tha Tiger – Rs. 60.42 crores

The next release in this universe is set to be War 2 and the target that the Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR starrer will have in mind is Rs. 200 crores. One now waits to see if it happens indeed!

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
