Top Hollywood grossers of 2023 at the India box office: Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Fast X occupy the Top 3 spots
2023 has almost come to a close with the last few days of the year left before we welcome the New Year; it’s time to look back in retrospect. Not surprisingly, 2023 has been a year filled with box office turmoil, while some big-ticket entertainers lived upto their name, a few others did not. Interestingly, a few smaller titled broke through the clutter emerging as box office wonders. In this yearend special report we look at some of the top Hollywood grossers of 2023 that left a mark at the India box office.
Not surprisingly, the Christopher Nolan directorial Oppenheimer that managed to draw in a massive Rs. 128.46 cr tops the list as the highest grossing Hollywood release of 2023. The film which came with immense hype and highly positive reviews enthralled the audience with its visual spectacle. Coming in a close second is the Tom Cruise starrer Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One that drew in Rs. 119.53 cr. Being the first part of the final chapter in the Mission: Impossible series hype for the film was at an all-time high. Taking the third spot on the list of the highest Hollywood grossers of 2023 is the tenth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast X. Collecting Rs. 108.83 cr, Fast X garnered mixed feedback from the audience. While, these big-ticket releases were expected to cross the Rs. 100 cr mark, a few others like, John Wick: Chapter 4 that promised high octane action sequences drew in just Rs. 53.21 cr, falling short of expectations. Another big release that turned copper at the box office was the third instalment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Collecting Rs. 52.21 cr, the third instalment of the hit series failed to compare with the previous two releases that enthralled the audience.
Though a few releases underperformed, the Top 5 grossers more or less retained their order at the box office. However, making a surprise entry as one film that made an impact at the box office was Barbie that drew in Rs. 45.45 cr, followed by the animated venture Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that collected Rs. 44.85 cr. Another shocker like the third Guardians film was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that contrary to expectations did not even cross the Rs. 50 cr mark closing its run at the India box office at Rs. 43.69 cr.
However, the two surprises among the Top 10 Highest Grossing Hollywood releases of 2023 in India were the horror flicks The Nun 2 and Evil Dead Rise that stunningly drew in Rs, 43.49 cr and Rs. 36.50 cr respectively. Intestinally, both these release despite the limited release and the niche appeal surpassed expectations making a good impact at the India box office.
