Aamir Khan reacts to use of Artificial Intelligence in films “You cannot curb a new technology”

“We will continue to see new kinds of technology (around us). AI is taking the world by storm. As and when we move forward, we will know what will happen. I’m always behind in terms of technology. My life revolves around stories,” the 58-year-old said at ABP Ideas of India Summit 3.0.

“With technology, there’s no turning back, be it any profession or industry, you cannot curb a new technology. There’s no need to stop it either. You have to learn to evolve with it,” he added.

Kiran Rao echoed similar sentiments as she added, “I don’t know what all can actually happen through AI. ChatGPT can help school kids. We know that it can help in writing, editing. There’s a debate whether it should be allowed in writing (or not). I don’t think you can stop AI, we all are using some form of technology to improve. It depends on how well we can use it.”

Set in 2001, in rural parts of India, Laapataa Ladies follows the jolly mess that ensues when two young brides get lost from a train. Presented by Jio Studios, Laapataa Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. The film has been made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with the script based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogue are written by Sneha Desai, while the additional dialogues have been jotted down by Divyanidhi Sharma.

Atlee on receiving criticism for glorification of violence in his films: “It is not to provoke anyone”

With a career spanning over a decade, filmmaker Atlee Kumar has worked with the biggest of the stars and given several hits. In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan, helmed by Atlee, crossed Rs. 1000 crores gross mark at the box office, globally. While Atlee gets praise for his works, he has also been criticised for violence in his films. Addressing the same, Atlee said that he has to show what’s happening in reality as well.

Atlee on receiving criticism for glorification of violence in his films “It is not to provoke anyone”

“Why does a news channel carry violent footage? To show the world the truth. Violence for what purpose? For example, in Jawan, we have read about farmers’ suicides a lot in newspapers. We may have passed the paper but as a filmmaker, I am also a media person. I am also a part of you. I have a voice. When I visually show how a farmer suicide is happening, and it gets stuck in your heart and it brings some change, so I am using my voice,” he said during ABP Conclave 2024.

“So, sometimes, violence is like a doctor’s injection. It is for the better cure; you can’t treat all ailments with tablets. That’s the reason we have violence. It is not to provoke anyone. For example, in my films, if a dog is being shot, a person who attacks animals is a criminal and a villain,” he explained.

“I want to teach the generation that if anyone does anything wrong to a dog or a pet, he is not a good human being. Unfortunately, all this falls in the caption of violence but it is the ‘bitter truth’,” he added.

He said, “Right from the beginning, as soon as you join school, it becomes a part of us and not just a subject. It is as much a part of us as games, beauty, and emotions are. We must openly speak and discuss politics. If it is hidden, I believe that’s not democracy.”

Manushi Chhillar on her prep to play a radar officer in Operation Valentine: “We had someone from the Indian Air Force team on set”

With only a few days to go for Varun Tej and Manushi Chhillar starrer Operation Valentine, the actress gives us an interesting insight into the process of playing a radar officer. Talking about her process of preparation in detail, Manushi Chhillar says, “My prep for Operation Valentine included a lot of basics just to simply understand the structure of the Air Force, understand what a radar officer is supposed to do, basic things like body language, the tonality of your voice and how to give a certain command. These are the few things that I had to work on.”

Sony Pictures International Productions, a studio that has also backed patriotic films like Major, made sure there was someone on the film’s sets during the entire shoot, ensuring authenticity and accuracy in the character. “Fortunately, we had someone from the Indian Air Force team on set. So, I always had that guidance on set whenever we needed any extra information or wherever I was going away from how a normal radar officer would do a certain thing. So, it was learning a lot of basics. It was not just learning how to portray a radar officer, but also learning the things that happen in the Air Force, or what basic terms like an evacuation and the kind of planes that are flying. So, just understanding all of that was a completely new world. I am a DRDO kid, so obviously, I know things from the surface, but this was me going deep into it,” she continues.

Operation Valentine is produced by Sony Pictures International Productions, Sandeep Mudda’s Renaissance Pictures and co-produced by God Bless Entertainment (Vakil Khan) and Nandakumar Abbineni. Shakti Pratap Singh Hada, a seasoned ad-film maker and VFX aficionado, will be marking his directorial debut with this film. Written by Shakti Pratap Singh Hada, Aamir Khan and Siddharth Raj Kumar, the film will be released on 1st March 2024 in Telugu and Hindi.
