The event was graced by the director Imtiaz Ali and Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films, Netflix India and the screening was followed by an interactive session between Sucharita Tyagi, film critic, and Imtiaz Ali.
The premiere evening was attended by over 300 film enthusiasts including director of Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz Ali along with Shabana Azmi, Mrunal Thakur, Sunny Kaushal, Daisy Shah, Mahima Makwana, Avneet Kaur, Pratik Sehejpal, Piyush Mishra, Sheeba Chaddha, Bhuvan Bam, Mrunal Thakur, Zanai Bhosle, Ajaz Khan, Moses Kaul, and Rohan Shah amongst others.
Imtiaz Ali was overjoyed to share his film with such a large audience. Speaking about the same he said, “It is an exhilarating experience to screen Amar Singh Chamkila for so many film enthusiasts at the screening today. We are overwhelmed by the love that the film has received so far and with the release of the film just around the corner, the team is extremely excited to share the film with Netflix audiences worldwide!”
The film charts the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses, the highest record-selling artist of his time, who emerged from the shadows of poverty and rose to the heights of popularity in the 80s due to the sheer power of his music, angering many on the way, which finally led to his assassination at a young age of 27.
Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, Amar Singh Chamkila is Netflix’s ode to the vibrant life of the legendary Punjabi musician. The film streams on Netflix from April 12, 2024

The 54-year-old star, known for his action-packed roles on screen, shared insights into his romantic journey, shedding light on his past before finding love with Twinkle Khanna. Kumar, who tied the knot with Twinkle on January 17, 2001, revealed that prior to meeting his life partner, he experienced several breakups.
In the podcast episode, Kumar candidly acknowledged facing “two-three” breakups before his relationship with Twinkle blossomed. The couple shares two children – son Aarav and daughter Nitara. On the podcast, he said, when asked if he can give an advice to those who experience heartbreaks, he said, “Mere saath jab break-up hua tha, 2-3 baar hua hai (Whenever I had a breakup, I had 2-3 of them), I used to exercise more. Channelise it. Because there was so much of anger, so you have to channelise it.”
“I get into working out more. Khaana bhi daba ke khana that (I would eat a lot). I think that is a way a martial artist would deal with a break-up. I believe that is the only way we understand it (heartbreak),” he added.
Akshay Kumar was linked to actresses Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty and Pooja Batra. Raveena and Akshay even got engaged in the late 90s and later parted ways.

With the release date drawing near, the duo is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the promotions are successful. Recently, they graced YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia’s podcast, The Ranveer Show, where they shared insights into their journey and experiences. During the podcast, Akshay reminisced about the time he broke his back while filming Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996.
The incident occurred during a scene where he had to lift none other than the legendary WWE wrestler, The Undertaker. Despite his dedication to delivering authentic action sequences, the stunt proved to be too taxing, resulting in a serious injury for the actor. Akshay revealed, “Mujhe bhi yaad hai (the film) aur meri peeth ko bhi yaad hai… Toot gayi thi usko (The Undertaker) uthaya tha (I vividly remember the experience, as does my back. I suffered a broken back after lifting The Undertaker). I lifted him, I was mad. He was somewhere around 425 pounds or something and we went ahead and I decided ki, ‘okay utha loonga‘(I will lift him).”
He added, “Kar toh liya, sab kuch ho gaya. Teen din baad, ‘khadak’ kuch bol gaya. Then I had a slipped disc… Abhi bahut behtareen hai (Everything worked out, but my back eventually gave out). After enduring a slipped disc, I found solace in hydro-therapy, a treatment that involved running and exercising in water. It greatly improved my condition.”
The film completed 25 years in 2021 and Akshay Kumar had taken to X, formerly Twitter, to share anecdotes. He wrote, “A hilarious note to mark 25 years to the release of #KhiladiyonKaKhiladi tomorrow! A fun fact though: it was wrestler Brian Lee who played The Undertaker in the film.”
Responding to the post, Mark Calaway, the real Undertaker, said, “Ha! Tell me when you are ready for a REAL rematch.” Akshay quickly responded, “Let me check on my insurance, and get back, bro!”
