Janhvi Kapoor reveals paparazzi get paid per photo based on celebrity popularity

Janhvi Kapoor, known for her captivating on-screen performances and stylish off-screen appearances, has become a favorite among photographers. In a candid revelation during an interview with The Lallantop, she disclosed that paparazzi are paid per photo of a star, with the amount depending on the celebrity’s popularity.

Janhvi, when quizzed about her views on paparazzi culture, she said, “Like right now, Mr & Mrs Mahi’s promotion is going on; they are called to the airport to click my picture. But when the film’s promotion is not happening, when I am not going for shoots, when I want to disappear, then, if they want to put in extra effort, and this has happened many times, they follow the car because they get paid for every picture, every image.”

She further added, “Every celebrity has a ration card. Their pictures sell for so much. If your price is high, they reach you, follow your car. If the price is not that high, you call paparazzi.”

Janhvi is returning with Rajkummar Rao, her Roohi co-star, for her forthcoming sports love film Mr & Mrs Mahi. Sharan Sharma directed the film, which Karan Johar produced. She will also be seen in Sudhanshu Saria’s spy thriller Ulajh, which stars Gulshan Deviah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang, and Adil Hussain. The actor is now filming Dharma Productions’ Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. She gets reunited with her Bawaal co-star Varun Dhawan in the film. Janhvi’s Mr & Mrs Mahi will be released on May 31.

Richa Chadha opens up on Sanjay Leela Bhansali losing patience after 99 takes of Heeramandi song; says, “I was totally demolished”

Days after disclosing that she had to endure 99 takes for a dance sequence in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” Richa Chadha shared her emotional state during the challenging process. She admitted feeling “totally demolished” as the filmmaker’s patience wore thin, but remained determined to perfect her performance. Despite the pressure, Richa resolved to get it right, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her craft.

Richa described her position on set, while she was fighting to get the photo correct, to Galatta Plus, “He (SLB) is a master because he is a classically trained Odissi dancer, so he knows the taal, he knows the rhythm. I am trained in Kathak, which is a very different form. So, for that scene, I think he did a mixture of like Kubrick and Spielberg because he did 99 takes, he didn’t get it and he said ‘pack up’, and he left. Then, after a few days, he was like, ‘I am not happy with that take,’ and I was like, ‘I know, what do you want me to do?’ So he said, ‘let’s do it!’ and we canned it in 20 minutes.”

When asked what she was required to do while performing and what directions Bhansali gave her, Richa stated that she was entrusted with completing the dance steps, humiliation, and intoxication all at once.

She shared that SLB wanted her to “live up to something” like Pakeezah, she said, “I think, he and I were doing a song for the first time. The song per say is not just a song. The premise of that is very sacred to him. It’s like from Pakeezah being invited to her lover’s wedding to perform a mujra, which in itself is a very humiliating premise. So he was very like, ‘you got to live up to something,’ and he wanted… he is not just happy with the dance, he wants the drunkenness to come through, he wants the delusion to come through that she is dressed like a bride, he wants the Kathak, the footwork and everything to be perfect, but he wants a breakdown in real time and in a single round trolley shot where the camera is slowly zooming in. The thing is I give him full credit because he is a master. So, he definitely knows what he is doing, just that the standards are high.”

Richa then revealed that her struggle to perfect the shot was so intense that she asked the crew for a quarter of gin to authentically portray drunkenness while dancing. She shared, “For me, I’ll tell you, on that day, after take 20, which was normal, because I am not hitting the mark and he also put this big guldasta (bouquet) on my head, it is very heavy, so when I was turning, I was balancing and the roses were hitting me, the costume was very heavy. So when I’d spin I wouldn’t land on the mark. So he was kind of losing patience with me.”

She also shared the sharp critique and feedback that Bhansali was giving her while directing her. She shared, “He was like ‘in this take, there is no drunkenness and in this take, the dance is not good, in this take, the eyebrow didn’t arch at this point of time’. So, there was always something. He is not from the school of thought that you can cut and shoot dance. He wants long takes. So I even thought that I wasn’t drunk so I called for a gin after 6 pm when there were only three hours left for the shift. I asked for a quarter of gin, wondering what if I’d need to get drunk for real. So there I am, the AD’s are giving me looks and I am slowly swinging it. I am like, ‘I am not used to alcohol, this is going to make me pee. I don’t know what I am going to do in this dress, I can’t even get out of it’. I just sucked it up and just didn’t move from there for those… I think it took 8 hours for the 99 takes to happen.”

40 years of Saaransh EXCLUSIVE: Balasaheb Thackeray gave his blessings to the Rajshri Productions film before its release

Rajshri Productions’ Mahesh Bhatt directorial Saaransh completes 40 years today. The film marked the debut of Anupam Kher and it also starred Rohini Hattangadi, Suhas Bhalekar, Soni Razdan, Madan Jain and Nilu Phule. It told the story of a senior citizen couple BV Pradhan (Kher) and Parvati (Hattangadi) who are trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of their son in a violent incident in the US. They get able support from Pradhan’s best friend Vishwanath (Bhalekar).

Following the death of their son, the couple rents out his room to an aspiring actress Sujata (Razdan). She has an affair with Vilas (Jain), the son of a famous politician Gajanan Chitre (Phule), and gets pregnant. Pradhan and Parvati were contemplating suicide out of grief, but Sujata’s pregnancy motivates them to live, although for different reasons. Saaransh has stood the test of time for four decades as the film is still considered a classic.

On the film’s 40th anniversary, prominent people from the Rajshri Productions banner – Managing Director Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Director Ajit Kumar Barjatya and General Manager PK Gupta – sat down to have an exclusive chat regarding the film with this writer from Bollywood Hungama at their residence in Mumbai.

Kamal Kumar Barjatya said that they were sure with their end product before the release. “We were sure that the film would turn out to be memorable. There is always this uncertainty of how it would do commercially. But we were very sure of the film getting critical acclaim, which was later proved,” he said.

The film came out in the 80s when hero-centric action films were the norm. But despite that, the banner showed faith in Mahesh Bhatt’s subject. “We had liked the subject. At that time, the production used to be handled by Raj babu (late Raj Kumar Barjatya). He used to select these subjects. Saaransh was one of the selections made by him,” added Kamal Kumar Barjatya.

Gupta recalled how Bhatt narrated the film to the Raj Kumar Barjatya back then. “The meeting had taken place in Seth ji’s (late founder of Rajshri Films Tarachand Barjatya) room. In two and a half hours, Mahesh ji showed the whole film (while narrating). It was with such elaborate detailing that it will be shot in Shivaji Park, etc. There was complete clarity in his mind.”

Interestingly, Anupam Kher, in his debut film, was only 28 when he played a senior citizen. His casting happened through Bhatt. Talking about the banner’s relation with the actor following Saaransh, the three gentlemen said that he considers Rajshri as his home.

Rohini Hattangadi was also selected by Bhatt. She was also under 30 years of age when she played a senior citizen in the film. “Gandhi (in which she played Kasturba Gandhi) had already released. She had become known after that film. And we felt she would fit well in this role,” said Kamal Kumar Barjatya.

Interestingly, a number of trial shows of Saaransh took place at the preview theatre of Rajshri Productions. The screenings were attended by more than 100 prominent people from the film industry. Apart from them, Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray was also one of the guests to see the film before its release. “It’s a 17-seater theatre. Thackeray ji liked the film, and he gave his blessings. He praised everyone’s work. He met Seth ji too,” revealed Ajit Kumar Barjatya.

Not many would know that veteran filmmaker David Dhawan also had an important contribution in Saaransh as the film’s Editor. “It was a very good experience (working with Dhawan). He used to work day and night in our editing room. He used to be present 24 hours whenever we needed,” recalled Kamal Kumar Barjatya.

Govinda’s initial foray into politics was marked by a victory in 2004 when he successfully contested the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket, defeating veteran BJP leader Ram Naik. Salman Khan to kick off AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar from June 20 with action-packed schedule in Mumbai: Report

Even though Eid 2024 lacked a Salman Khan release, the superstar has unveiled a grand project titled Sikandar to make up for it. This action extravaganza marks Khan’s first collaboration with director AR Murugadoss, and filming is set to commence in June 2024. Murugadoss is currently juggling projects, including an action film featuring Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan (tentatively titled SK23). To ensure a smooth transition to Sikandar, he aims to wrap up a significant portion of SK23 before diving into Khan’s film.

Salman Khan to kick off AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar from June 20 with action-packed schedule in Mumbai Report

“Murugadoss wants to complete as much of SK23 as possible before Sikandar goes on floors,” an insider revealed, according to a Mid-day report. The plan involved shooting the initial schedule of Sikandar in May, followed by a return to Sivakarthikeyan’s film in June. From July onwards, Murugadoss will devote his full attention to Sikandar.

With a target Eid 2025 release, the team is working tirelessly to meet the deadline despite the director’s packed schedule. “To avoid any delays, Murugadoss has assembled a dedicated team to expedite the completion of SK23,” the source added.

Another report in the same publication revealed that the pre-production began last week in May, paving the way for a June shoot. The first schedule will take place in Mumbai, with location scouting currently underway to finalize filming spots. Additionally, Salman Khan will be involved in a photoshoot towards the end of May, followed by the commencement of principal photography after June 20.

Action sequences are a priority for Murugadoss, and the action directors are busy choreographing these set pieces. Salman Khan has already begun his preparations. “Salman insists on performing the action sequences himself. He has modified his workout regimen to achieve a chiseled physique,” the source revealed.

Table reads with Khan and leading lady Rashmika Mandanna are expected to start in early June. A significant portion of the film will be shot in Mumbai and Hyderabad before the team embarks on an international schedule. To ensure Khan’s safety, considering past threats, filming locations will be disclosed on a need-to-know basis.

Sikandar marks Murugadoss’s highly anticipated return to Hindi cinema after an eight-year hiatus following Akira (2016). This project also reunites Khan with producer Sajid Nadiadwala, the duo behind blockbuster hits like Kick, Judwaa, and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
