Liger (Hindi) Box Office Estimate Day 2: Vijay Deverakonda starrer records a flat trend on Saturday; collects Rs. 4.25 crores

Vijay Deverakonda’s first Pan India film, Liger, has recorded a flat trend on Saturday. According to early estimates, Liger has collected in the range of Rs. 4.10 to Rs 4.50 crores, taking the total collections to Rs. 10.25 crores. For those unaware, Liger collected Rs. 1.25 crores in paid previews, followed by Rs. 4.50 crores on Friday.

Liger (Hindi) Box Office Estimate Day 2: Vijay Deverakonda starrer records a flat trend on Saturday; collects Rs. 4.25 crores

The film business is driven by masses and youth, however, with a negative talk, a healthy trend on the weekdays is unlikely. There is a big India vs Pakistan match on Sunday and hence, the collections will see a downward trend as compared to the conventional patterns of jump on Sunday.

If the talk was positive, Liger would have emerged a winner, as there definitely seems to be an interest in the audience to watch mass cinema on big screen. Liger will clock opening weekend inclusive of paid preview a little under Rs. 15 crores and from there, it won’t put up much of a number. The lifetime biz is expected south of Rs. 25 crores.

Liger is doing best business in places like UP, Bihar and some other centers in mass belts, whereas the national multiplex chains have stayed low. The two day business is still better than many Bollywood films released this year, despite a negative talk

Liger CRASHES at the box office in Telugu belts; Hattrick of Disaster for Vijay Deverakonda

Vijay Deverakonda’s much hyped Telugu film, Liger released on Thursday and took a very good start with a South India Gross collection of approximately Rs. 17 crores (+2 crore from paid previews in Hindi). However, despite the collections, the talk was outright negative among the audience and critics. The film has seen one of the biggest crashes of all time in the South Indian market. According to our tracking, Liger has collected in the range of Rs. 4.10 to 4.40 crores on its second day to take the total collection to Rs. 21 crore plus.

The two-day share in the Telugu markets is around Rs 11 crore, and the film is headed to record an opening weekend share of Rs 15 to 16 crore. For those unaware, the sport-based action entertainer has been sold to the distributors for a sum of Rs. 55 crores, and hence, a bare minimum loss of Rs. 35 crores is on cards for this Vijay Deverakonda film in Telugu states. If we take the worldwide prospects into account, the film stands to lose over Rs. 50 crores for the distributors.

It would be the third consecutive disaster for the actor in Telugu market after Dear Comrade and World Famous Lover. His next is Khushi with Samantha, which is expected to break the streak. The movie is a wash out in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, while it’s expected to be out of most cinema halls in Telugu states by Monday.

On Friday morning, there was a record number of show cancellations for Liger. It’s a 77 percent drop in collections for the film in South Indian states vis-à-vis the opening day.

Liger Overseas Box Office: Film sees drop in business on Day 2 at North America box office

The Vijay Deverakonda – Ananya Panday starrer Liger directed by Puri Jagannadh hit screens this week. After much talk and promotions, the film opened to a rather tepid start at the domestic box office. However, in the overseas markets, Liger started off on a decent note. But on its second day at the North America box office, the business of the film has seen a decline.

After crossing the USD 500K mark on Day 1, the business of Liger saw a sharp decline. Collecting USD 88,388 [Rs. 66.67 lakhs] from 347 screens, the movie witnessed a nearly 81% drop in collections from Day 1 at the U.S.A box office. Similarly, at the Canada box office, Liger managed to draw in USD 8,734 [Rs. 6.98 lakhs] from 19 screens roughly translating to a 61% drop in collections. With this, the total collections of Liger at the North America box office are pegged at USD 597,054 [Rs. 4.77 cr.] at the end of its second day running.

Looking at the marginal increase of 18% from its first day of business it seems like the negative word of mouth for the film has had a drastic effect on its business. Going further, Liger faces an uphill task at the box office to post increasing collections. However, trade remains optimistic claiming that the business of Liger will see growth over its first Saturday and Sunday in theatres.

U.S.A box office
Day 1 – Wed – 482,156 USD [Rs. 3.85 cr.] from 301 screens
Day 2 – Thu – 83,388 USD [Rs. 66.67 lacs] from 347 screens

Canada box office
Day 1 – Wed – 22,776 USD [Rs. 18.21 lacs] from 9 screens
Day 2 – Thu – 8,734 USD [Rs. 6.98 lacs] from 19 screens

John Abraham -Shah Rukh Khan’s shirtless faceoff in Pathaan

‘Hero’ Shah Rukh Khan and ‘Villain’ John Abraham are getting ready for the fight of the year in Pathaan. Apparently their climactic faceoff in Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan will be a fist-to-fist combat between Khan and Abraham, thereby making this the first onscreen action sequence where a shirtless Shah Rukh will step on camera.

John Abraham -Shah Rukh Khan’s shirtless faceoff in Pathaan

Incidentally John has as important a role as Shah Rukh in Pathaan. Says director Siddharth Anand, “John Abraham is THE antagonist, THE villain of Pathaan. I have always believed in the fact that the villain’s projection should be as big, if not bigger than that of the hero’s. Only when the villain is massive, can the tussle between them be spectacular.”

About the confrontation between the two stars Anand reveals, “We have an extraordinary battle when SRK takes on John! We wanted to present John in a super slick avatar.”

The director says the first looks of the actors are teasing people into the world of Pathaan. “The first looks of SRK, Deepika Padukone and John, truly represent the zone we want the audiences to view the film in. People have now just got a taste of the world of Pathaan. This truly is just the tip of the iceberg and I can assure you that nothing can prepare you for the action spectacle that is coming your way.”

Aditya Chopra pens a note as his Broadway musical Come Fall In Love, inspired by DDLJ to open at San Diego on September 14

Inspired by one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the Broadway musical Come Fall In Love by Aditya Chopra is all set to premiere in the US. The show will open in San Diego on September 14 and will continue till October 16. Along with a special note by Aditya Chopra, the news was posted on the official Instagram account of Yash Raj Films. For the uninitiated, the original Bollywood film featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead and released was in 1995.

Aditya Chopra pens a note as his Broadway musical Come Fall In Love, inspired by DDLJ to open at San Diego on September 14

Yash Raj Films shared the news on social media saying, “Aditya Chopra’s Broadway-bound musical Come Fall In Love (CFIL) is set to open at The Old Globe, San Diego on September 14. Here’s his note inviting people to see a celebration of love on stage… The musical’s official Opening is on Wednesday, September 14, and will run through October 16. #ComeFallInLove @theoldglobe”. Explaining how close Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is to his heart, Aditya Chopra penned the note saying, “I first conceived the story of DDLJ (even before it was called DDLJ) as a Hollywood story of a white American man and an Indian woman. My main motivation at that time was to present Indian culture and values to a global audience. Years later, as I reimagine the story as a Broadway musical. My mainstay is still the same, showcasing Indian culture to a world audience. And the most powerful way to depict a country’s culture and values is to see it from the perspective of someone who does not belong to the same culture. That is the starting point of Come Fall In Love, the story of Indian Simran, her culture and heritage through the eyes of American Roger.”

He went on to share, “Come Fall In Love is the story of Simran, an Indian American. She is at the center of the musical’s story, as she struggles to balance her love for Indian tradition and her family with her love for Roger. He is a white American man who falls madly in love with Simran and then falls in love with her culture and her country. He aspires towards India and finds a new version of himself in India’s energy, values, and way of life.”

“I’m not directing DDLJ for Broadway. I’m adapting it as Come Fall In Love to tell the story of how powerful love is in unifying cultures, especially today. In 2022, the notion that DDLJ could be adapted to present a vision of diverse cultures coming together in a story that celebrates love and the power it has to unify everyone moves me greatly. For me, Austin Colby as Roger and Shoba Narayan as Simran are the perfect vehicles to drive home this message of cultural unification in a fragmented world. They are joined by a cast, crew, and creative team that represents all that extraordinary talent Indian cinema and Broadway has to offer. The representation and artistry of India reverberates through every part of this production. Come Fall In Love is not only my heartfelt vision of ‘love in every color’ as the musical’s finale puts it, but a celebration of joy, togetherness, and inclusivity in a divisive and an increasingly toxic world of intolerance. It is also my love letter to India and the Indian heritage we carry with us wherever we may be,” he added.

“In making a new DDLJ for a new moment and new audience, I’ve departed from some aspects of the films that our fans revere. But I believe that the heart of Come Fall In Love beats with everything that is essential in DDLJ even as it speaks, sings and dances to this moment, in a different place and time, with hope, optimism, and love. I look forward to sharing Come Fall In Love with those who cherish DDLJ and I’m also looking forward to introducing the story to audiences discovering it for the first time. I’m well aware that DDLJ has a special place for many Indians living across the world and, as its original producer and director, I’m well aware of the responsibility I have in representing India to the world. I’m grateful, humbled, and excited by this opportunity. Hope I see you at the theatre and we can, together, celebrate the magnetic force of love that can shatter all barriers,” he concluded by signing off as Aditya Chopra.

Speaking of the film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was record breaking success and the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema. The film has been screened at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai for over 19 years.
