Darr completes 30 years; Juhi Chawla says, “It was special to have Shah Rukh Khan in the film”

As Darr completes 30 years today, Juhi Chawla, who became the biggest national crush as Kiran with the film, reveals the film to be one of the most important films that she has ever done in her career! The Yash Chopra directorial also featured Sunny Deol as the leading man and Shah Rukh Khan as the antagonist with Anupam Kher, Tanvi Azmi, among others playing pivotal roles.

Darr completes 30 years; Juhi Chawla says, “It was special to have Shah Rukh Khan in the film”

Speaking about it, Juhi said, “Darr is one of the highlights of my career. One of the most important films I have done. Before Darr, I worked with Yash Chopra ji in Chandni, and it was just a tiny bit. At that time, I was very new but still he cast me opposite Vinod Khanna ji and I had that little guest appearance. That was the first time I faced the camera with Yash ji directing me, which was just two and half days of work.”

She added, “After that I worked in Pam Chopra ji’s production which was also a YRF film – Aaina. And I have said this before, Aaina was the first time where I was called to Honey ji’s house, who sat me down and went through the entire script with me. The second time that I ever heard a script again was when Yash ji sat me down in the Gadda room at their home. I was just amazed as I was an upcoming artist, who was still finding her feet and here was this great director whose movies I had watched as a child, and then when I became an actress, I was sitting in front of him, while he nicely took me through the whole film.”

She further continued, “Also, at that time, it was very rare that the Directors or Producers wrote their whole script before going into shooting. However, with Yash ji, both the films that I did whether it was Aaina or Darr they narrated the whole script to me! It was wonderful. I do have wonderful memories of working with Yash ji. I was very young at that time and was in awe of Yash ji. It was such a big moment for me to be a Yash Chopra ji’s heroine, and that I would be directed by him. I had grown up watching Silsila, and some other movie but I never imagined that I would be in front of the camera and that the legendary Yash Chopra would be directing me!”

Juhi says she was thrilled to hear that Shah Rukh Khan would be playing the anti-hero in Darr! She explained, “When I heard that Yash ji was going to cast Aamir for the role that Shah Rukh did, I was so happy, because you know I’ve worked with Aamir in our initial films and with him I’m so comfortable. Then I heard that Aamir is not doing it, then I think it went to Ajay Devgn and some other young heroes but they wouldn’t do it, then finally it was Shah Rukh. But I can’t tell you how special it was!”

Juhi added, “At that time, I was this wide-eyed young girl who was going through life and going through the whole experience… I didn’t know what I was really doing or where I was heading. Just experiencing these big highs and being overwhelmed with it, also being nervous but then also finding my little joys with SRK – because I had done Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman with him by then, so at least there was that comfort level. It was a great big adventure.”

Dark Obsession (2023) Film Review #wanitaxigo

Soundtrack #2 Review: Noh Sang Hyun and Geum Sae Rok starrer is tale of ex-lovers rediscovering romance through healing power of music

The thing about sequels is that you would expect to see the magic of its predecessor reflect somewhere. There are certain expectations of the sequel from the viewers. Soundtrack #1 was an instant favourite due to the breezy chemistry between South Korean actors Park Hyung Sik and Han So Hee. They were paired up for the first time on-screen. Similar expectations were levied onto its sequel Soundtrack #2 which premiered earlier this month. Noh Sang Hyun aka Steve Noh and Geum Sae Rok star as the leads in the anthology sequel. Taking the idea of Soundtrack #1 ahead, Soundtrack #2, a six-episode short story, also features a story of love and heartache backed by melodious tunes. Ji Su Ho [Noh Sang Hyun] and Do Hyeon Seo [Geum Sae Rok] were college lovers but broke up because of their differences and contrasting ideologies. Neither of them fully moved on from the past, but they carried on with their lives. Now, four years later, the two coincidentally crossed paths. However, even in different spaces in their lives, the unresolved issues creep up as they spend time together in the present time.

Ji Su Ho is now the CEO of an entertainment company which backs creators and Do Hyeon Seo used to play the piano but had to hit pause on her career. Now, she works several part-time jobs to pay her bills and keep her piano studio afloat. Demian stars as K, an aspiring musician. As fate would have it, K, Su Ho and Hyeon Seo came together for a music project. As they spend time together working on the project, they find resolutions for their past and present dilemmas. K grows feelings for Hyeon Seo but she does not reciprocate them. The two remain friends. Hyeon Seo and Su Ho give a second chance to their relationship, but unresolved emotions surface as they navigate their current lives.

The leads in Soundtrack #2 grapple with their imperfections. Sometimes, despite there being love, there isn’t enough compatibility or communication between two individuals to sustain the relationship. Even if it all seems plausible and possible at the start, the complexities in their dynamic would lead to an eventual breakup. With Su Ho and Hyeon Seo, we see that both had different ambitions and goals in life. Su Ho found his resolution sooner, but Hyeon Seo was still stuck. Su Ho was confident that he would someday crack the code to live his dreams. Hyeon Seo was frustrated with the mediocre lifestyle and wanted bigger things in life sooner. Add to that her hand injury took away her chance as a pianist. Despite being a great pianist, she had no confidence or pride in her skills. Which is why she never understood anybody’s appreciation, love and admiration for her. When Su Ho and Hyeon Seo broke up for the second time, she realised that she needed to love herself first to fully love Su Ho the way he deserves to be loved. Some might say that Su Ho deserved better and should have sought someone else. But others might argue that he saw what Hyeon Seo could become and he kept faith in her. He was angry and resentful towards her for being a brick wall, but he never stopped loving her, never stopped supporting her.

When it comes to a relationship, or even being friends with someone, one must learn to be confident about themselves. If you think you are lacking somewhere, learn to trust when someone says that you can do it. The true richness lies in trusting oneself, finding contentment in the present, nurturing a passion for personal growth, and cherishing love from others. It’s not about lavish possessions but about self-trust and appreciation for what you have.

With just six episodes, Soundtrack #2 plays out beautifully. While one may argue that season 1 was better in approaching a love story between Park Hyung Sik and Han So Hee’s characters, this second season gives more perspective into the narratives of broken hearts. Each short epilogue gave a deeper insight into the connection between Do Hyeon Seo and Ji Su Ho. The wintery theme in the drama echoes the sensitive emotions being portrayed in the story. Noh Sang Hyun and Geum Sae Rok deliver the “tsundere man and soft but determined woman trope” amazingly, infusing the characters with chemistry that resonates with viewers. The supporting characters serve as mirrors to the leads, acting as their inner voice, guiding and supporting them. Soundtrack #2 provides a warm, bittersweet, and cozy viewing experience for the winter season. If you’re in search of a heartfelt and emotionally resonant story as time heals past wounds, Soundtrack #2 is one of the beautiful choices.

Dunki Box Office: Takes 7th biggest opening of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan has 3 films in Top-10

The official India collections of Dunki are out. The film had taken a start of Rs. 28 crores at the box office, which is a good start, especially considering the fact that this is a social drama with just some bits of humour at certain points. Moreover, the subject too is of the kind which is not quite universal on paper and it’s just the manner in which Rajkumar Hirani has narrated the story and Shah Rukh Khan has enacted the part of the protagonist that the film has reached out to a larger volume of audiences.

If not for some of the real big blockbusters that arrived this year which ended up setting new records for the biggest opening days ever, the kind of opening that Dunki has taken is actually rather good. In fact, if one compares this with the other releases of the year then the first day collections of Dunki are amongst the best.

Let’s take a look at the Top-10 openers of 2023:
Jawan – Rs. 75 crores (including 9.50 crores from south versions)
Animal – Rs. 65 crores (including 10 crores from south versions)
Pathaan – Rs. 57 crores (including 2 crores from south versions)
Gadar 2 – Rs. 40.10 crores
Tiger 3 – Rs. 44.50 crores (including 1.50 crores from south versions)
Adipurush (Hindi) – Rs. 36 crores
Dunki – Rs. 28 crores
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan – Rs. 15.81 crores
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar – Rs. 15.73 crores
Bholaa – Rs. 11.20 crores

Each of the six films above Dunki has heavy dose or action and barring Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar which is below it, the remaining films are also action affairs. That goes on to show how action has ruled the roost in such a big way right through 2023. That said, the extended weekend collections would be a different game altogether and Dunki will end up beating the lifetime score of many others in the list. It’s now all about how the film manages to grow well right till Monday, Christmas Day, before the weekdays begin.

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources

REVEALED: Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’s sequel to be called Salaar Part 2: Shauryanga Parvam

The much-awaited film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire was finally released today in cinemas across the world after making a lot of noise not just over its content and star cast but also issues related to show sharing. Starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, the action entertainer is directed by Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films of KGF fame. As a result, the hype was tremendous resulting in a huge start down South and a decent start in the Hindi-speaking markets.

REVEALED: Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’s sequel to be called Salaar Part 2: Shauryanga Parvam

As the name suggests, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire was the first part with a sequel promised by the makers even before its release. As expected, it has come to light that the first part ends by mentioning the name of the sequel. The next installment will be called Salaar Part 2: Shauryanga Parvam.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is set in a city named Khansaar populated by dangerous anti-social elements and is also a story of friendship. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, producer Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films confirmed that when the final product couldn’t get ready by September 28 as scheduled, the film was shifted to December 22 due to astrological reasons. Hence, while Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki and the Hollywood superhero film Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom released on December 21, the makers of Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire didn’t prepone their date.

In the same interview, Vijay Kiragandur also clarified that the underperformance of lead actor Prabhas’ recent films doesn’t bother them, “We don’t see one or two failures of a star as a reference. We take the success stories as a reference instead and make movies. We hope Salaar will become a blockbuster. His films might not have worked but look at the first-day figures. Nobody has got that kind of an opening in India that Prabhas sir’s movies get.”
