Scooby-Doo Is The Instrument of God's Vengeance | Screen Rant

Scooby-Doo has made lots of powerful friends over the years. That includesBatman and Robin, the live-action stars of Supernatural, and in the new movieScoob!,a pup named Scooby-Doo meets fellow cartoon classics Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. But the strangest pairing of all might be when he became the host of a nigh-omnipotent being: the Spectre, DC Comics' manifestation of God's vengeance!

In the spirit of Scooby-Doo's famous and infamous team-up cartoons that pair the mystery-solving mutt and his teenage friends with everyone from the Teen Titans to John Cena, DC ran a comic book called Scooby-Doo Team-Up that lasted for 50 issues, from 2013 to 2019. Each storyline involved Mystery Inc. encountering new DC Comics characters, as well as Hanna Barbara properties like The Flintstones and The Jetsons.

The Spectre is one of DC's oldest characters, first appearing in 1940. The green-cloaked spirit is tasked by the Presence, DC Comics' equivalent of the Abrahamic God, to enact revenge on evildoers that have earned the Lord's fury. The Spectre, arguably the most powerful character in the DC Universe, has a share of The Presence's omnipotence, but needs a human host to anchor it to the material world and give it a sense of mortal conscience. Absent such a host, the entity becomes unpredictable, its harsh judgment threatening the safety of all existence. Most recently, the Justice League tried to defeat an unmoored Spectre, but didn't stand a chance.

The ghost-napper makes a run for it, and Shaggy nearly does the same thing in the wake of so many haunts roaming free and brandishing weapons. But he realizes that his beloved Great Dane would remain possessed until the evildoer was dealt with, and overcame his cowardice to tackle him and save the day. And that was definitely the right move: in the infinite reaches of the Scooby-Doo multiverse, The Ririt of Rengeance is likely the mightiest incarnation of Scooby, and is certainly the most horrifying... as long as Scrappy-Doo doesn't count.
