Here’s some retro pics from the sets of MBKD, along with a story; I remember working some wild double shifts for the song ‘Do Dhaari Talwaar’. It was shot over 4 consecutive night shifts, while I was also spending the day shifts shooting the music videos for ‘Nakkaddwaley Disco’ and ‘Switty’ from Delhi Belly at the same time! I would sleep in my car, while being driven between the two sets. Hectic, but totally worth it.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ayushmann Khurrana on Dream Girl 2: “Joh Gadar 2 ki audience hain, woh hi iski audience hai. Aap logic nahi laga sakte ismein”

Dream Girl 2 is a family entertainer starring Ayushmann in the characters of Karam and Pooja. With the opening first day collection of Rs. 10.69 crores, the film has given Ayushmann the biggest opening of his career. The film has collected Rs. 67 crores in the domestic market. The actor is quite elated about it. However, the actor also addresses that it is not for those who watch movies with a magnifying glass.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ayushmann Khurrana said, “Ek baat mere mann mein clear thi ki yeh film unn logon ke liye hain hi nahi joh magnifying glass leke baithe hain. Yeh clear tha. Agar woh aap dimag se nikaal de….This is for the outright massy comedy commercial single-screen small-town audience. Joh Gadar 2 ki audience hain, woh hi iski audience hai. Aap logic nahi laga sakte ismein, (This film is not for them who will be watching it with a magnifying glass. If you take that out of the mind… this film is an outright massy entertainer and has the same audience which is also watching Gadar 2, you cannot put logic in this).”

He added, “Ismein aap intricacies mein nahi ja sakte. Waise koi message nahi hain film ke andar. But dekha jaye toh it’s also inclusive enough. Matlab halka sa LGBTQ chhoo ke jati hain. Joh Abhishek Banerjee ka character last mein bolta hain, ‘Love is love.’ There’s an acceptance. There is a Muslim family jinki shadi ek Sardar se ho rahi hain, ek Hindu se ho rahi hain. Toh joh desi janta hai, unko toh lagega yeh progressive hain. Par joh magnifying glass le ke baithe hain, wo galtiyan nikaal sakte hain. Unke liye ye film hain hi nahi. (In Dream Girl 2, you cannot go into intricacies. There is no message in the film despite it trying to be progressive. It slightly touches upon LGBTQ topic in the form of Abhishek Banerjee’s character. There is a Muslim family which is getting their daughter married to a Sardar and a Hindu. So for the desi audience, this film will feel progressive but for others sitting with a magnifying glass, it won’t).”

The actor said that as long as a movie like Dream Girl 2 works, he can go ahead and have the courage to work on movies like Andhadhun, Article 15 and An Action Hero.

Jawan trailer starring Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone among others is bursting with action, adventure, and heart-pounding thrills. Following the trailer unveiling on social media, it was launched in Dubai on the tallest building in the world – Burj Khalifa.

 In the trailer, Shah Rukh Khan is in his vigilante bald avatar when he hijacks the metro train. He receives a call from the police when they ask what is it that he wants. Replying to this, he quips, “I want Alia Bhatt”. Now, Alia has reacted to her mention in the film’s trailer.

Raksha Bandhan 2023: Saira Banu recalls how Dilip Kumar helped Lata Mangeshkar learn Urdu; says they would travel in trains: “She often came to our home to visit Sahib and they ate lunch or dinner together”

Ever since Saira Banu made her official account on Instagram, her anecdotes have been dedicated to her late husband, actor Dilip Kumar. She shares memories from her early work days, their relationship, his work and relationships in the industry. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday, the former actress shared pictures of him and his Rakhi sister, late Lata Mangeshkar.

Sharing a series of photos and a video, Saira Banu wrote, “The Kohinoor of Indian Cinema Dilip Sahib and the nightingale of the Music Industry of India Lata Mangeshkar held a connection beyond the dazzle of their stupendous stardom. They shared the bond of a brother and sister. In those golden quiet bygone days this legendary two-some found it comfortable to travel from their homes to their work spots in local trains which are also known as the life-line of this marvellous city Mumbai. It was during this travelling time that they shared their thoughts, experiences, and sought each other’s advice. It was at one such journey that Sahib guided Lataji on how much the heart of Urdu lies in its flawless pronunciation and how something as simple as a Nukta adds a beautiful addition to words. Sahib emphasised that one must own the spoken languages with mastery. Lataji, an obedient sister in every sense, worked upon his advice and sought an Urdu tutor’s assistance. Since then, the world bore witness to her flawless pronunciation in her songs.”

She added, “Despite being busy with work or travel or any personal commitments, they both would find a way to meet each other on Rakshabandhan and Lataji would tie the sacred Rakhi on Sahib’s hand. To my delight they both unfailingly followed this ritual year after year and I in return to this beautiful gesture sent her a brocade sari to her taste each time!”

She continued, “Dilip Sahib bestowed upon her the honour of being introduced at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London where the echoes of the first Indian concert resounded. With utmost simplicity, he called her on the stage , implicit charm. “Ye meri choti si behen bohat mukhtasar si, main inhein introduce karne aaya hoon”. The audience roared with appreciation. Thousands of long playing records were made and sold to the public of this same function. Many years later he introduced her again similarly at the London Palladium.”

“This bond of brother and sister remained until the very end, in sickness and in health. She often came to our home to visit Sahib and they ate lunch or dinner together. The very last time that she came here she lovingly fed him with her own hands and they made such a loving picture together. Such was the love they shared…monumental,” Saira Banu concluded her post.

Jawan Audio Launch: “Shah Rukh Khan told me to cut the portions of him and spare the scenes of others,” says editor Ruben

Megastar Shah Rukh Khan dazzled the audience in Chennai along with the director Atlee, actors Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priya Mani and music composer Anirudh Ravichander at the grand audio launch of the film at Sai Ram Engineering College. The superstar received a grand welcome at the event. While addressing the crowd, editor Ruben talked about how SRK was so generous about getting his own scenes chopped to safeguard the scenes of his co-stars.

While talking to the audience, Ruben revealed, “I thank Shah Rukh Khan for trusting us. Not just one, but a whole bus of Tamilians landed in the North. It needs some guts to do that. Also, as a human, he is great… For example, at the editing table, he told me to cut the portions of him and spare the scenes of others.”

Talking about Vijay Sethupathi’s character in Jawan, Ruben said that the performance gave him sleepless nights. He said, “I love Vijay Sethupathi… Most importantly the films where he is the villain. In Jawan, he has played a character which is death personified. His role gave me sleepless nights.”

Thanking Atlee Kumar for making everyone feel at home as they shot in different locations, the editor added, “I am not good in Hindi and most of the technicians also don’t. But when I went there to shoot in some unknown locations, everyone around me was Tamil on the sets. We should thank Atlee for making it feel like home.”

Even Atlee praised Sethupathi’s performance by saying, “There’s no one out there like you. No hero has the guts to do what you do. You don’t care about anything and keep walking forward and we follow you… No one will realise the heights you are reaching now. They will all know in retrospect.”

Megastar Shah Rukh Khan dazzled the audience by releasing the party number ‘Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ from his highly anticipated film Jawan on Tuesday. Now, his presence in Chennai has been met with solid enthusiasm. The superstar is currently in Chennai along with the director Atlee, actors Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priya Mani and music composer Anirudh Ravichander have taken over Chennai for the grand audio launch of the film at Sai Ram Engineering College. Addressing the huge crowd and the team of Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan gave a speech thanking the Tamil industry for being so warm for the past three years.

Talking about Anirudh Ravichander making music for Jawan, SRK said, “I remember Atlee sir telling me that, there is this young kid, I have seen him like a baby ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’, and from that time, I have been wanting to meet him. Atlee sir told me there is this young kid can we do one song with him in the Tamil version and the Hindi version I said no we have to do all the songs with only Anirudh and the amount of hard work he has put in, Thank you, Anirudh, I love you so much. And a big gratitude and love to your parents to both father and mother. Thank you, sir and ma’am.”

Thanking choreographer Yogi Babu, he added, “Yogi Babu, thank you so much. I remember him from Chennai. He was so shy and so quiet. And I remember I came to market the film here. And everybody was screaming and shouting in the theatre. For one brief moment, I thought it was for me. And then I realized, no, they were all pushing me aside and they just wanted to say, Yogi Babu, so thank you so much for being part of Jawan, you are awesome sir.”

He continued his speech, “Our editor who’s been working round the clock. He says I will only have a haircut only after he finishes editing the film. He’s not had a haircut yet. I didn’t know that you have to edit the many speeches now. It’s not the film that you need to edit. Your speeches have to be edited. But I’m saying this all with love. I do not need to judge these great technicians who will be part of the film.”

“I see Vivek who has written the lyrics thank you for standing by us doing the whole film together. I’m forgetful with names. I call everyone baby and beta. Sunil beta. For him copying in the films and doing such a different role in Jawan. I’m so happy to share screen space with you and learn from you. Thank you so much. And I have to take the names of all my five girls and I’m not going to make a mistake I need your help Bhavna because I don’t speak Tamil. So if I have to praise Atlee in Tamil I have to say ‘Morana mas, Morana mass’, Atlee, thank you so much. Then one of my friends is not here Vishnu. He’s delivering the film. The cinematographer for the film. He’s been such a wonderful human being. He’s done such outstanding work in this film, and we all miss him as a team right here right now. So wherever he is, thank you Vishnu, and he’s only in Morana mas. Vishnu. Then of course Maturaj ji, thank you so much for participating in the film and speaking so highly of a VFX unit. We call him Gumby. Ramana muthuraj, Thank you so much. And Ruben your name was Viru buru panna Reben,” SRK said.

He further said, “There are some people who are behind the scenes who are not here. I’d like to thank them. There’s one young editor with Ruben darling. Please give him my love. He’s been working so hard for the film.There is Shobi master, who made me dance like a mad man. I told him,I can’t dance like Rajni sir. I cannot dance like Vijay Thalapathy, I can’t even dance like Atlee. So please don’t make me do this. But he forced me to you know, I have to tell you Bhavna, I was doing this that I had red marks for three days. Thank you Shobi garu, for making the song it made me look so cool in the red shirt. God bless you. For you the word is attam podal.”

Talking about the women in the film, he said, “Nayanthara, she’s not here. She wanted to come but due to Onam festivities she couldn’t but she gave all her love. She’s sent her love to all. And I thank all my girls, Priyamani, Girija, Aaliyah, Sanjida, and Ridhi. Love you all. Thank you for making this happen.”

Brands excited for Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan; to buy 1,00,000 tickets for their consumers

Earlier in July, Bollywood Hungama was the first to inform our esteemed readers that the brands are excited about the release of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani as multiple brands are ready to buy over 50,000 tickets of the film for their consumers and employees. The news created a stir within the film fraternity as well as the social media circles. And now, we have another industry scoop on the release of the Shah Rukh Khan-led Jawan.

Sources close to the development have confirmed that brands are ultra excited about the return of Shah Rukh Khan to the big screen with Jawan. “The cities are flooded with co-branded hoardings – be it outdoor or buses and trains. The brands have done a huge tie-up with Shah Rukh Khan on Jawan, as they have taken the onus to promote the film as also partner to distribute tickets to their consumers,” revealed a trade source to Bollywood Hungama.

The source further informed us that around 1,00,000 tickets are blocked by brands for the holiday period, which will be distributed among their privileged consumers. “It’s a normal practice for brands to celebrate event films. This happened during Pathaan, though at a much smaller scale, it happened for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and it’s happening for Jawan. Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Karan Johar are favorites of the brands when it comes to film releases. It’s basically a deal of SRK and the brands i.e. the brands that SRK is endorsing have partnered with Red Chillies on the marketing front for all SRK films,” the source explained to us.

This is also a very common practice in the South which is slowly making its way in the Hindi Film Industry, giving an additional padding to feature films to open and spread the word of mouth faster. “Corporate bookings are official and happening in the industry for the longest time. It is self-buying of producers that is harmful, as the producers themselves put in the money to buy tickets without putting in the effort to fill the seats. However, with brands, it’s always a marketing exercise leading to the spread of word of mouth faster due to bigger sample size.”

Some of the top brands have partnered on the Jawan ticket contest – from cars to watches to even tiles and toiletries. The Atlee-directed entertainer is ready to hit the big screen on September 7, 2023. It stars SRK with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi.

However, following the blockbuster success of Gadar 2, SRK made a call to Sunny to congratulate him on his win at the box office. SRK recently revealed that he had watched the movie and loved it.

Sunny told Times Now, “Shah Rukh Khan had seen the film. Before that, he had called me and wished me well. He was so happy, and he told me, ‘I’m so happy, you genuinely deserve it’ and I said thank you. Then I spoke to his wife (Gauri Khan) and his son (Aryan Khan). And he said tonight we are going to be watching this film. And after that, he had seen it, and I think that is when he tweeted.”

“It was so beautiful. Many times I’ve also called him up and we shared our thoughts on certain things,” he sai. He added, “About the past issues – whatever they were, I would say time heals everything and we move ahead. That’s the way life should be.”

Previously, Deol was unhappy with the way SRK’s character in Darr was glorified. During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said, “At the end of the day, people loved me in the film. They loved Shah Rukh Khan as well. My only issue with the film was that I did not know they would glorify the villain. I always work in films with an open heart and believe in the person. I believe working with trust. Unfortunately, we have many actors and stars who don’t function in this manner. Maybe that’s the way they want to get their stardom.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for the release of Jawan on September 7, 2023.

Akshay Kumar spotted filming Sky Force in Sitapur; watch

Basking in the resounding success of his recent cinematic endeavour Oh My God 2, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is wasting no time as he dives headfirst into his next project. The renowned actor has commenced shooting for the upcoming film Sky Force under the banner of Maddock Films, and his on-set presence has stirred a frenzy of excitement among fans. Arriving in Lucknow on August 24, Akshay wasted no time and was spotted in Sitapur just a few days later, engaging in a motorcycle scene on an expansive open ground.

On Tuesday, Akshay Kumar took to the open ground for his shot, an enthusiastic multitude of fans gathered, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite superstar in action. Behind a secure fence, they cheered and waved as he rode the motorcycle, and Akshay responded with heartfelt waves and greetings. The actor’s attire for the day was a white and blue striped shirt paired with denim jeans and shoes. Completing the look were sleek black sunglasses that added to his charismatic aura.

The filming of Sky Force is currently underway at the PAC Battalion in Sitapur, which has been ingeniously transformed into an air base for the cinematic narrative. The film’s backdrop is set against the dynamic canvas of the Indian Air Force, adding an element of patriotic fervour to the story.

Meanwhile, Akshay was recently seen in OMG 2 alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. The film earned praise from critics and audience alike and performed well at the box office. Apart from Sky Force, Akshay has Tinu Suresh Desai’s directorial, The Great Indian Rescue starring alongside Parineeti Chopra. The film is slated to release on October 5, 2023. He also has Jolly LLB 3, Welcome 3, Housefull 5 and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in his pipeline.

Makers of Rajinikanth starrer Jailer to alter a scene of contract killer wearing RCB jersey after Delhi High Court order

Jailer has been running successfully in theatres. With the return of megastar Rajinikanth with Nelson Dilipkumar as director, the film has been a rage down South. However, from September 1 onwards, the prints of the movie will be altered with one scene removed from the movie. It is related to a scene featuring a contract killer wearing the Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey and making derogatory and misogynistic comments about a lady. Now, the makers have resolved the issue after the Delhi High Court directed them to alter the scene.

As per a report in Bar And Bench, the court ordered, “The Defendants as also all parties acting for or on their behalf including their distribution network shall be bound by the above terms and conditions. With effect from 1st September, 2023, in the theatrical depiction of the film Jailer the RCB team jersey shall stand edited/altered. The Defendants shall ensure that after 1st September, 2023, none of the theatres would exhibit the RCB jersey in any form whatsoever. In so far as television, satellite or any OTT platform is concerned, prior to the release thereof, the altered version of the film shall be broadcasted/telecasted.”

A suit was filed by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited which owns RCB while Prathiba M Singh was defending the suit. Sun Pictures was being represented by Deepak Biswas, Harsh Buch and Srishti Gupta. The counsel appearing for both sites informed the Court that the issue had been resolved and that they had agreed to alter the scene.

Sunny Singh and Kriti Kharbanda to headline Abir Sengupta’s neo-noir comic tragedy Risky Romeo

Filmmaker Abir Sengupta is set to bring an explosive saga of a modern-day existential crisis with his next feature titled Risky Romeo. The film, billed as an edgy and stylish neo-noir comic tragedy, stars Sunny Singh and Kriti Kharbanda in never-seen-before avatars. A passion project for the director, Abir is also producing Risky Romeo with Anushree Mehta under their banner Jaadugar Films in association with Priyanka Mehrotra and Rameshchandra Yadav of PR Motion Pictures.

The makers announced their film with a stunning and striking motion poster. “Thrilled to announce the film, writer-director Abir Sengupta— who had previously directed Kiara Advani starrer Indoo Ki Jawani and produced Radhika Apte starrer Mrs. Undercover,” said Risky Romeo is a neo-noir comic tragedy that depicts human behaviour in a “very unusual manner.”

“The script is filled with dark humour, outlandish characters and a surreal treatment. When I narrated the script to Sunny, he instantly picked up the essence of the film. My business partner and producer of the film Anushree Mehta then introduced me to Kriti. She too instantly connected with the script and I landed both my lead cast. After toiling with multiple stories and ideas for almost 3 years, Risky Romeo was something that had my heart and soul and I knew that I had to make this film,” Abir said.

Producer Anushree Mehta of Jaadugar Films jointly with Priyanka Mehrotra and Rameshchandra Yadav of PR Motion Pictures said, Risky Romeo will offer a genre ‘rarely seen in Hindi cinema.’ “Both our lead actors Sunny and Kriti will be seen in never-seen-before avatars and we cannot wait for the world to witness the same. This is a passion project in its true sense, not only for the writer-director but for everyone who is a part of Risky Romeo.”

Excited to don the role of Risky Romeo, Sunny Singh shared, “I have never ever played a character even close to this before. It is thrilling and challenging at the same time. This film needs me to prepare hard and completely transform myself into the character that Abir has written. His vision with this film and for my character is very unusual and that is something that I am really looking forward to. Anushree, Abir and I have been wanting to collaborate on something for a while now and finally, it is happening with this film that is dear to all of us. This will be the first time that I will have Kriti as my co-star and I am looking forward to the riot on set!”

Kriti Kharbanda expressed, “Sets have always been my happy place and I can’t wait to face the camera. I am very excited and really looking forward to working with this wonderful team. Sunny Deol says he is only focusing on acting instead of producing films: “I had a tough time with my films in this past decade”

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is back with his latest release, Gadar 2. The film, helmed by Anil Sharma, also stars Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma. It has entered the Rs. 450 Crores Club at the Indian box office. Till now, the film has collected Rs. 456.05 crores. However, in a recent conversation, the actor revealed that he is only focusing on acting now and won’t be producing anything as he goes bankrupt while doing so.

In a conversation with BBC Asian Network, Sunny said, “The world has become very difficult. Years back, I could control things because distribution was normal. They were people we interacted with. There was a connection. Ever since the corporates have come in, there’s nothing. For an individual to stand tall over there, it’s difficult. You have to do your PR, and run around, and they won’t give you your number of theatres. They don’t want individuals to be there. I had a tough time with my films in this past decade. You’re trying to do a certain kind of cinema, but you (don’t get the backing).”

He added, “That’s what I came in for. I became a producer, a director, wearing too many hats. A man can only do one job. So I said, ‘Throw everything away, just become an actor.’ So that’s what I want to do now. Do as many films as I can as an actor.”

Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film is a sequel to the 2001 movie Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and it also stars Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur and Manish Wadhwa.

The actress will be next seen in Ganapath with Tiger Shroff, The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tabu, and an untitled next with Shahid Kapoor, which is set to release on December 7. There have also been reports about the yet-untitled film that will see Kriti as a robot and Shahid as a scientist, who falls in love with the former. Dharmendra is also part of the project. Zeenat Aman shared a picture of herself and in reference to the event she attended recently. Zeenat wrote in caption, “During yesterday’s discussion, I put out a disclaimer: I don’t have all the answers. In fact no one does. And If someone claims otherwise – be wary!”
