Released in 2000, Refugee was a romantic drama directed by J.P. Dutta. The film starred a young and fresh-faced Kareena Kapoor, then only 18 years old, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Kareena portrayed the character of Nazneen Ahmed, a village girl caught in the throes of love amidst the backdrop of cross-border tensions.
