Superman and Batman have fought a lot of forgettable villains, but Anti-Superman and Anti-Batman have to be the most baffling. When the World’s Finest uncovers the identities of their opposite numbers, the two DC Comics heroes are in for quite the surprise.
Anti-Superman and Anti-Batman made their debut in World’s Finest Comics #159, in a story entitled “The Cape and Cowl Crooks!” written by pioneer science-fiction writer, Edmond Hamilton, in what would be his last story for DC Comics. The story follows Perry White’s journalistic investigation into the careers of Superman and Batman, with help from Commissioner Gordon. White and Gordon wander into the weapon's room at the Fortress of Solitude and accidentally overturn a bottle of colored gas that turns them evil. They end up tangling with Supes and Bats, but only after using a secret serum that de-ages them and imbuing Perry with super-powers via a special machine.

Alliteration abounds as the front cover proclaims that these “cape and cowl crooks” are “mightier than the Man of Steel and more than a match for the Masked Manhunter.” The diabolical duo makes their debut outside prison cells containing Joker, Penguin, Toyman, and Prankster, making a “Bat-mail Delivery.†Meanwhile, at the Fortress of Solitude, Superman informs Perry that he and Batman must head to the bottle city of Kandor, giving them the run of his secret Arctic retreat. Afterward, Batman follows suit by blindfolding the cop and the reporter before whisking them away to the Bat Cave.
Back in Metropolis, mild-mannered reporter, Clark Kent, gets the scoop on two costumed troublemakers. The Man of Steel searches with his telescopic vision, only to spot Anti-Superman lifting a glowing Batmobile, also known as the Anti-Mobile, in the air with one hand. The combatants immediately engage in battle, with Anti-Superman ripping the dome off a museum and hurling it at Superman like a frisbee. At the same time, Batman and Robin are in pursuit of Anti-Batman, as he navigates the twists and turns of the private freeway leading to their top-secret lair. After receiving an emergency call on the Bat-Phone, the Dynamic Duo manages to team up with the Last Son of Krypton and subdue the pair of tricksters.
If the time period wasn’t established by the plot and characterization alone, a big clue had to be the appearance of one Captain O’Hara, the flatfoot with the Irish lilt from the 1966 Batman TV series. Editors advise readers to put on their thinking caps in order to figure out the origins of these “Cape and Cowl Crooks.†Despite its predictable campiness, this installment of World’s Finest is loaded with charm.

If you only know Kevin James from shows likeThe King of Queens or movies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop or Pixels, you’re about to see him like you’ve never seen him before: as a ruthless killer. And Becky, the upcoming film in which he plays the villain, isn’t a spoof or played for laughs – it’s all done with a straight face. Check out a new red band trailer and a clip from the movie below.
Becky Red Band Trailer(For a better grasp of the plot specifics in this movie, watch its initial trailer.)
If you’re anything like me, you may have rolled your eyes when you heard Kevin James was going to play a Nazi-tattooed killer in a new thriller. But this trailer actually makes the movie look pretty fun. It’s probably not going to be a life-changing experience, but it certainly seems as if it could be a significant turning point for James to break out of a pigeonhole and take on a much wider range of roles, which would be great to see. He’s generally an enjoyable, affable presence in interviews, but his comedies are often too broad for my personal tastes. I’d love for this performance to open some new doors for his career.
Becky ClipJames’ surprising menace really shines through in this clip (via The Playlist), where he threatens the young girl at the center of the story (Lulu Wilson, from Sharp Objects and The Haunting of Hill House) and tortures her father, who’s played by Community‘s Joel McHale.
The film comes from directorsCary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, who previously directed the 2014 Elijah Wood zombie school movie Cooties and the 2017 Dave Bautista action flick Bushwick. (The latter movie is about armed forces invading New York, which has unfortunately become weirdly topical.)
Here’s the movie’s official synopsis, courtesy of Quiver Distribution:
Spunky and rebellious, Becky (Lulu Wilson) is brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her father Jeff (Joel McHale) in an effort to try to reconnect. The trip immediately takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the lake house.
Becky is supposed to be available in theaters, drive-ins, on digital, and On Demand on June 5, 2020 (but the “in theaters†part is obviously a bit of a challenge right now).

Fans know that Doctor Strange originally sought out the Ancient One to fix the nerve damage in his hands that prevented him from continuing as a surgeon. Although Strange wanted a quick fix, the Ancient One convinced him to spend years studying the mystic arts, allowing Stephen Strange to transform from a selfish surgeon into the Sorcerer Supreme.
But what if this wasn’t the way it turned out? What if by the time Strange found the Ancient One, his master had already selected a pupil – a student named Victor Von Doom? Incredibly, this happened in an alternate universe, which resulted in Doctor Doom becoming the Sorcerer Supreme, and Doctor Strange getting a very unconventional (and disgusting) cure for his hands.

The story occurred in What If --? #52 in a creepy alternate reality story called “What if Dr. Doom Became Sorcerer Supreme?” In this parallel world, Victor Von Doom sought out the Ancient One to learn his mystic secrets after his failed experiment to rescue his mother from the netherworld. Sensing both arrogance and nobility in Doom, the Ancient One attempted to nurture Doom’s better qualities by taking him on as a student. Doom proves an apt pupil, at least as far as learning the mystic arts goes. He also continues building on his technical expertise – creating robotic doppelgangers and inventing a nanite bomb that he implants in Baron Mordo’s head when the Ancient One’s other pupil attempts to kill Doom. Some time later, however, Strange seeks out the Ancient One hoping he can heal his hands.
Sensing an opportunity to test Doom’s humanity, the Ancient One asks Doom to help Strange with his problem. Annoyed, Doom takes Strange to his workshop – and proceeds to cut off his hands and graft a pair of his robotic Doombot hands in his place. While this “cure” does allow Strange to regain his surgical skills (and even perform operations with superhuman accuracy), the Ancient One realizes Doom has failed to realize Strange needed mental and emotional balance more than a cure for his physical ills.
Deciding that Doom cannot be his successor, the Ancient One decides to simply help Doom free his mother from Mephisto’s netherworld. Although the Ancient One succeeds in saving Doom’s mother, he dies in the process and Doom takes his place as Sorcerer Supreme. In the aftermath, Dormammu decides to launch his invasion of Earth, and the new “Sorcerer Doom” recruits the Fantastic Four to retrieve some mystical gems for him from the past. Doom uses the artifacts to defeat Dormammu but is critically injured in the process.
Ironically, the surgeon chosen to operate on Doom turns out to be Stephen Strange, who feels Doom’s death offers a sort of poetic justice for how he mutilated his hands. However, Doom – who sensed great mystic potential in Strange – decides to have his Doombots abduct Strange and then download his memories and personality into Strange’s brain, effectively hijacking Strange’s body to continue on as Sorcerer Supreme. It’s a grim ending that basically shows Doctor Doom mutilated Doctor Strange not once but twice in this alternate reality.

The Officeshowrunner Greg Daniels revealed in a recent interview he had to put his foot down when writers wanted to make Steve Carell’s character, Michael Scott, a killer.Based on the original 2001 British sitcom of the same name, the mockumentary-style series premiered on NBC in 2005 and went on to redefine American sitcoms. The Office takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. To heighten the show’s documentary-feel, it did not film in front of a studio audience and featured no laugh track. After nine seasons, The Office ended in May 2013 with 201 episodes.
The Office featured a large ensemble cast including Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. However, Carell's performance as Michael was undoubtedly the show's standout. Surprisingly, the character wasn’t initially well-received after season one’s six-episode run. Integral to the show’s success was the release of The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005, which made Carell a household name and inspired some Michael Scott character adjustments.

Daniels, the show's creator, showrunner, and an alum of the Saturday Night Live writing room, spoke with The Guardian about The Office. The interview also featured producer Mike Schur, alongside stars Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) and B.J. Novak (Ryan Howard), who also all wrote for the hit comedy series. Daniels revealed one dark plot point that bounced around the writers' room before he stepped in and reigned things in:
There were times where [the writers] would become enamored with a joke, and I'd have to put my foot down. For instance, they really wanted Michael to kill Meredith with his car. That was an early pitch, where he runs her over in the parking lot and then comes back, gets a tire iron and finishes the job. I was like "You can’t do that, that’s crazy!"
Michael does hit Meredith with his car in the season four opener, which sows the seeds of gags for the rest of the season and those that follow. However, turning Michael into a killer would have ruined the shows pacing and thematic arc. The branch manager became the show’s North star, continually moving the line between caring boss and concocting crazy schemes. While the writers’ idea of the tire iron brings to mind a provocative image, it doesn’t align with the character.
The scene would have offered a memorable season opener, but impacted the character’s arc and painted the writers into a corner. Michael is sometimes obnoxious and oblivious, but not pointedly cruel unless Toby is in the mix. While Michael's hair-plugs of the early seasons certainly give off the murderer vibe, the show was probably right in deciding not to go there. Fans should be thankful for the decision, which led to five more glorious seasons of The Office.

One of the main components of the Harry Potter universe is magic. The entire story revolves around the Wizarding World and keeping it hidden away from muggles, or people without magical blood. But in order to perform spells, charms, and curses, one must have a wand up to the standard necessary to amplify a witch or wizard's natural-born ability.

Wands are made from a distinctive type of wood, whether it be elm, oak, vine, or otherwise, and a special magical core such as unicorn hair, phoenix feather, or dragon heartstring. Here is a listing of the most powerful wands in the Harry Potter universe, ranked.
Updated June 2nd, 2020 by George Chrysostomou:The Wizarding World continues to bring much needed magic into many lives and with J.K. Rowling having released a new short story, it seems appropriate to revisit her most famous universe.
15 Mad-Eye Moody's WandAn auror, a protector, and a member of the Order of the Phoenix, Mad-Eye Moody possesses an incredibly powerful wand. This is of course also a wand that was hijacked by Barty Crouch Junior.
It's a powerful magical artifact and one that meant that Moody was always in control of a situation. Although he possessed other objects such as a staff, his wand was always his most reliable weapon.
14 Remus Lupin's WandRemus Lupin has also been a Hogwarts professor for the defense against the dark arts. Any wizard who takes on that role has to have a pretty powerful wand to back up his lessons.
Lupin's gifts are boosted tremendously by the wand that he wields. Made from cypress and unicorn hair, it may not stop him from becoming a werewolf but it has certainly aided him in his missions with the Order of the Phoenix.
13 Nymphadora Tonks's WandNymphadora Tonks might just be one of the most underrated magic users on this list. She clearly has huge magical potential, which is demonstrated through her talents of body morphing.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 5 Things You Didn't Know About Wand Woods (& 5 You Didn't Know About Wand Cores)
Her wand certainly aids her with her casting though, allowing her to become an auror and giving her the strength to side with Dumbledore and the rest of the Order. She's fought and defeated numerous Death Eaters with this wand.
12 Sirius BlackHarry's godfather is a tough individual, having survived 12 years in one of the most dangerous places in the Wizarding World, Azkaban. Before this, Black proved himself to be a talented wizard, even mastering the art of being an animagus.
Joining the Mauraders, Sirius had a bright future until the dark lord intervened. Since his escape, his thin wand has proven useful in battling off death eaters and defeating Lucius Malfoy.
11 Newt Scamander's WandNewt Scamander is an experienced wizard when it comes to magical creatures and his wand has helped him in developing those skills. However, his other abilities certainly shouldn't be undervalued.
Despite his offensive magic being mixed in terms of power, he has managed to fight Grindelwald and even an obscurus. His subtly designed wand is likely a huge factor in his success in casting spells, perhaps boosting his magic beyond his own abilities.
10 Lucius Malfoy's WandLucius Malfoy's wand was passed down to him by his father and it was made of elm and dragon heartstring. Apart from belonging to a powerful wizard, Malfoy's wand is simply one of the coolest in the Harry Potter universe. It's a fan-favorite because of its serpent head design.
Clearly, Malfoy was a wizard adept at the Dark Arts. Voldemort even made Lucius the leader of the Death Eaters. Throughout the books, Lucius always appeared to be lurking in the shadows, slippery as an eel. He kept his wand stored in a cane and could whip it out in a moment's notice.
9 Hermione Granger's WandHermione's original wand has a dragon heartstring core, like many on this list, and is made from vine wood. Everyone who is a fan of Harry Potter knows that Hermione is widely considered the brightest witch of her age.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 6 Times Hermione Was A Good Friend (& 4 Times She Wasn't)
Despite being discriminated against often in the wizarding world because of her muggle-born heritage, Hermione has repeatedly proven how powerful and skillful she is as a witch. Her wand has obviously been a critical part of Hermione's magical education. She has helped save Harry and Ron on more than one occasion with her quick thinking and knowledge of a vast amount of spells and charms.
8 Bellatrix Lestrange's WandAnother dragon heartstring wand must rank on this list. It is made out of walnut and comes in at 12 3/4 inches. This wand belongs to Bellatrix Lestrange, an extremely wicked witch and one of Voldemort's most devoted followers. Bellatrix is known for her nasty habit of torture. She is proficient at using the Cruciatus curse on her many victims.
This curse isn't an easy one to perform but Bellatrix is adept at it. Of course, this is probably because she's had years of practice inflicting pain on people, sadly. Even as a skilled witch, clearly her wand is powerful enough to allow her to do the Dark Lord's bidding.
7 Minerva McGonagall's WandThis list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the wand owned by Minerva McGonagall. Her wand is made of fir and dragon heartstring and comes in at 9 1/2 inches. McGonagall's wand is clearly powerful because she is an expert and professor of Transfiguration.
We know Transfiguration is one of the most difficult and complicated types of magic in the entire Harry Potter universe, and yet McGonagall is able to transform a desk into a pig and back again with a simple twitch of her wand. She is an accomplished Animagus herself, which proves her prowess with the magical art form. It's clear her wand is an excellent tool for her.
6 Severus Snape's WandIt is unknown what Severus Snape's wand was made of, but it is clearly powerful. Despite your feelings on Snape, the complicated character that he is, Snape is still a powerful wizard. He was able to work as a double agent for Dumbledore for years without Voldemort, or the Death Eaters, discovering his duplicity.
Plus, he is an accomplished potions master and he excels at Legilimency. While we don't know exactly what Snape's wand core or wood base is, it's still apparent his wand was a faithful companion to his wizarding career until the very end. Combined with his sharp intellect and skill, it made him an inimitable wizard.
5 Voldemort's WandVoldemort's wand shares a twin phoenix core with Harry Potter's wand. Obviously, Voldemort eventually wields the Elder Wand, but it's been proven multiple times throughout the Harry Potter series that Voldemort's wand serves him perfectly well. With it, he's killed many, tortured even more, and managed to create his Horcruxes.
His wand was 13 inches long and constructed from yew, in addition to the phoenix feather from Fawkes. However, when faced with Harry Potter's wand, his wand was ultimately defeated by Harry's during the pivotal graveyard scene in Goblet of Fire. This is why Voldemort's wand isn't ranked higher, but it is still, undeniably, a powerful wand.
4 Harry Potter's WandWe know that Harry's wand was made from holly and contained a phoenix core from Dumbledore's bird, Fawkes. His wand shared a twin core with Voldemort's wand. But ultimately, Harry's wand appears to be the stronger of the two.
It never failed him in all his years at Hogwarts and beyond, and it was able to defeat Voldemort in Goblet of Fire when their wands connected. Of course, a lot of that is because of Harry's own abilities, his capacity for love, and his differences from Voldemort, but there is no denying that his wand was a very special part of his magical journey.
3 Gellert Grindelwald's WandFor a time, Gellert Grindelwald was actually in possession of the legendary Elder Wand. Dumbledore eventually defeated him for it. But prior to that, Grindelwald must have had another wand to get him through his magical education at Durmstrang Institute. We don't know what that wand was, but we can easily assume it was of extraordinary power.
RELATED: Harry Potter: 10 Things That Need To Happen Before The Fantastic Beasts Series Ends
Grindelwald was best friends with Dumbledore for many years and the two of them went on to become some of the most renowned wizards of all time. Grindelwald was basically the master of Dark Arts well before Voldemort came along, and thus we know his wand was capable of vast potential.
2 *2. Dumbledore's WandWe may not know what Dumbledore's wand was made of, but we do know it was extremely powerful. Dumbledore is known as one of the greatest wizards of all time. He was so strong that even Voldemort himself was fearful of the man. Dumbledore was able to perform magic never seen before by anyone else in the books.
His abilities were profound. He was also adept at performing spells non-verbally. Obviously, much of Dumbledore's skill is because of him, but there's no doubt his wand plays a big role in his abilities. He was able to go head-to-head with Gellert Grindelwald and wielded it when he won the Elder Wand.
1 The Elder WandThis is obviously the most powerful wand in the entire Harry Potter universe. The Elder Wand is part of the legendary Deathly Hallows along with the Cloak of Invisibility and the Resurrection Stone. Even Voldemort himself coveted the Elder Wand.
It has the ability to fix other wands, as Harry uses it to fix his faithful wand instead of taking the wand for himself. Supposedly the wand was hand-carved by Death from the Elder tree, and it can make a wizard (or witch) invincible. Obviously, that's not entirely true, since Harry was able to defeat Voldemort while he had it.
